Lent 2014

I know not all of you are religious, or practice Catholicism/ Christianity.

I gave up swearing and masterbation. I got the idea for no swearing from captain capitalism's YouTube channel and no fap cause I wanna see if I can hold out.

If you do practice, what are you giving up for your 40 day and 40 nights? Or what's the toughest things you've gave up in the past?

When I was younger I would drink a lot of soda so one lent I gave up soda to see if I can hold out and since then I rarely drink soda now. This really opened my eyes and gave me confidence to give up other things.

I will also give up fapping this year, good luck.

How does that work, from what I know you don't eat until sundown, right?

Not Catholic, was not raised Catholic, and have never given up anything for a higher power...

... But, I fucking love this time of year. Catholic parishes make some delicious fried fish on Friday nights! I'll be eating fish 'n chips every Friday for the next month or so.

I do not practice Catholicism anymore but still consider Lent a good time for a personal refocus, especially after this almost weeklong Mardi Gras bender I had. I have decided to give up masturbation, porn, cursing, and alcohol (minus red wine here and there). We'll see how far this goes.

Good to give up drinking for lent - always interesting to see other peoples reaction when I refuse the drink at social occasions

I gave up watching TV and sweets. Spend way too much time watching TV and I need to eat less sugar before I get type 2 diabetes. Putting the extra time into working on my gaming and coursework, and extra money into eating a better diet.

Reduced time in front of computer + no porn + no fap.

It would be a funny twist on the catholic tradition if someones lent would be doing 10 approaches everyday. With the aim of premarital sex.

I gave up soda, sweets and porn. Whatever you give up it'll give you enormous confidence because you see that you're mentally strong and disciplined.

Wisconsin. Somehow the Catholic fish friday has become a staple of bars and restaurants and the good local joints have fish fry fridays every week. You have to ask around but I've had some great fish+chips in strange dive bars around the state.

Its tax season, so for lent I gave up sleep.

How are you dealing with the nail biting? Any good techniques to stop? Ive been biting them since I can remember as a little kid and continue, I've tried different stuff and I can go like a week without but some how I relapse and continue. Sometimes I start biting them and don't even notice and catch myself later. It's truly an addiction.

I used to be bad myself back as a kid. I remember I'd always wind up pulling out that strip of skin, whatever it's called, and the sides would always get infected.

What worked for me was lifting. I cut my nails as short as possible every 2 work outs, got into the routine of doing so, and have never had any excess I could get my teeth around. Just get into the routine of chopping them short 1-2 times a week.

If you get into a routine but the craving is really bad chew gum for the first little while until the craving to chomp subsides - it will eventually.

I actually do lift and the times I find myself doing it is mainly when I procrastinate and I'm doing nothing so I try to keep busy for the most part. The problem is when I'm relaxing or watching a movie or something, but I'll try to chew some gum out and see how that works. Thanks.

Honestly bud, i don't know.

I have a friend of mine that i'm close to and I antagonize her on the daily. She wanted something to annoy me with so I said, "call out my nail biting."

She always goes, "yummy yummy!" Every time i bite my nails. Sometimes she'd go and poke my abs too.

Then i said done! So i went and got the no bite stuff, some nail clippers, and a bunch of nail files. I wear blazers all of the time so I put the stuff into a case and stuffed it into my jacket. Everytime I feel the urge to bite, I use the clippers to clip off the rough area and then file it down with a file.

I've basically denied myself the right to bite them, but now use clippers instead. Honestly, i'll probably be a nail biter my entire life. Just trade one nervous tick for another.

I also think it's gotten easier to quit as I've gotten older. I'm 24 now and have been biting for as long as I can remember. Maybe this added religious jesus tradition will give me the strength to quit.

I don't give up anything but I go to church every day during lent. Its a time commitment. Of course it helps that there are 2 catholic churches within a 4 block radius of my office

Lent 2014 wrap-up: I drank red wine but no other alcohol. I had two new sober notches including an Indian flag (shout out to Houston, TX). No fap no porn. Lent was a time to practice self-control and I am glad it went successfully per my standards. Now I am an alcoholic cursing jerker-offer again.[Image: angel.gif]

I've never done Lent before (grew up non-denom protestant)...

Swearing seems a worthy cause, as does fapping.
Maybe even RVF as I do waste time on here, instead of building a website and business.

Hmmm...

Fapping.
It's not going to be easy - the most I've made it to so far is 23 days.
I'll probably report back every once in a while on my progress. Or if I'm close to cracking.
