Video - Economics of Sex

This is interesting. I think many of you will find that this video commits the apex fallacy. It's interesting to see the economic perspective on the sexual marketplace. This analysis reaches the same conclusions that many of us on the forum have reached, albeit by a different mode of analysis.

A glaring problem with the video is that focuses entirely on the price of sex while ignoring the costs and price of marriage and divorce. You could make almost the same video while using as your explanatory variable the "price of marriage/divorce" and reach all the same conclusions. Although it is overly simplistic, it is still an interesting take on these issues.

Good video.

A couple of thoughts:

Although at first I thought the narrators were going to find middle ground on the perceptions the genders have of one another, it turned out that the female just ended up agreeing with the male narration the whole time. Even though he was right, it kind of dissolved the idea that this was objective analysis.

The last minute of the video was basically a "how-to" guide to increase marriage in the USA. Seeing as the producers were a Focus-on-the-Family type association based in Austin, Texas, this doesn't surprise me. When I was a teenager, I had similar views -- then I realized nobody gives a shit what you think. That's not to bash religious folk, I'm just saying they ought to focus on problems they can solve. Without divorce reform, marriage is on the way out in the next 10 years.

As Glock said, if they would analyze the financial risks of marriage, they would see that it is as dangerous to men as sex to women pre-pill.

The vid seems to cite the pill as the main cause of the decline in marriage. Although i would suggest feminism is a larger problem, i can accept that feminism and the pill are symbiotic.

However, i think the video skips some of the larger implications of technology in general, not just the technology of chemistry that makes the pill possible. For example, women are 99 percent responsible for taking nude photos of themselves, either selfies or agreeing to do photoshoots. The rise of digital photography makes it viable for any/every willing cute girl to broadcast naked photos of herself.

Even if the pill disappeared overnight, women would still have the biological urge to show the goodies when they are at their most nubile. The implication is that camera phone selfies are right up there with the pill in terms of 'things women do that skew the market.'

This is a technological reality that is here to stay, much like the pill. It will be incredibly hard to try and hold men accountable for either of these. Sooner or later regulations will have to place the burden on women.

Interesting perspective on sex.

It reminds me of a econ professor in college who believed that everything on earth could be explained through an economic model.

I agree with a lot of the ideas in the video (most of it is what we talk about every day on this forum), but the authors tip toe over the main reason why women have become so slutty over the last 30-40 yr and resulted in a decline in the value of sex----feminism. The video seems to blame birth control and "lack of female solidarity" which created a bifurcated matting market of those seeking sex and those seeking marriage.

Feminism indoctrinates every young woman with the idea that having sex with multiple men (even random men) is empowering and normal. You are a free/ independent woman, unshackled from the evil patriarchy which wants to sexually repress you. This is not economics--this is radical ideology which is taught in all of our schools and universities.

This ideology actually goes against a woman's best interest. From a purely financial point of view, a female virgin (18-25) has a higher SMV than a comparable slut. Then why don't more women avoid the cock carousel and hold out for the best they can get? Feminist ideology which has taken over every aspect of society makes it almost impossible.

One other point I would argue is the BS about what women write about on their online dating profiles. True, women will not come out and say they want to get fucked, but I have learned to never take a woman's statement at face value. The anti-slut image they want people to believe prevents them from revealing the truth so they make up some garbage about wanting something long-term or "real" blah blah.

I'm not convincend that the video's basic tenet, that men want sex more than women and marriage less than women, is the full truth.

Cool video, it would be interesting to include the costs/risk of sex,marriage/divorce and dependence on others across both genders. Dependence being the traditional need for having a spouse or children to care for you as you get old

males, low cost for sex, high cost of marriage/divorce, moderate dependence on others at old age (men die earlier so i'd expect the dependent years to be shorter)

females, no cost for sex, high reward for marriage/divorce, high old age dependence due to length of time spend being 'eldery'. The problem being that their spouse is likely to die before they do so elder care needs to be done with kids.

So, a woman can maximize her benefits in the system by having as much sex as she wants, multiple marriages and a kid or two for old age security...sounds about right.

100% right, since sex with fatties and 5-lowers is not in high demand. Men want sex with the best women and women want fux/bux with the best men. The video shied away from clarify sex differences to appease the equalists out there.

Men come to the market desiring youth, beauty, and maternal instincts (inner youth & beauty) in their women. Women do not highly desire youth, beauty, and paternal instincts in men.

Women come to the market desiring dominance, power, and resources in their men. Men do not highly desire dominance, power, and resources in women.

Now you have a grasp of the products at stake in the market.

Lol @ the part in the video where they say "men are in the driver's seat when it comes to marriage.'

Yeah, until they actually get married - then they are shit outta luck and can either lose everything or go to jail (or both). Great where do I sign up?? I'm ready to jump right in!!

Men don't have it anywhere as easy as they are implying in the dating world or in marriage. We all know a very small percentage of men get the majority of sex with women (can debate the percentage but lets just assume it's not more than 15-20% and probably less). And although men should technically be the gatekeepers of relationships and marriage, many times it doesn't work out like this given how unattractive and unsuitable many US and Anglosphere women are for marriage.

By that I mean it's not like there are hordes of chaste, marriage-seeking 7s, 8s 9s and 10s out there in the US getting used by all these who are just dying to get married. More like a bunch of overweight, entitled, overprotected narcissistic women who want to have their cake and eat it to, most of whom have destroyed their value as a potential marriage partner by sleeping around and being slutty -- or becoming so selfish & fat that nobody could ever date them (you know the 'foodies' and 'artistic' types with better things to do in their 20s and 30s who suddenly decide they want a child or to get married at 38). I'm sure the average beta actually could bang tons of the fat 3s, 4s and 5s that predominate but that's not a very attractive option to a guy with a decent job and things to do in his life, so most abstain.

Video does obliquely attack some facets of Feminism, but at the end sorta blames men for this unholy situation and as the OP stated ignores the elephant in the room (divorce rape). Then it instructs women to ask men to offer them more before having sex. Great thanks!!

That wasn't really what I was thinking though - those are just attributes that make a person attractive to one sex and the other. The video doesn't really touch this at all, nor does it necessarily need to, can't address everything at once.

What I had in mind though, was how it says women are looking for marriage/commitment and men are looking for sex. On average that might very well be true, at least as you look at older age groups - but definitely there's tons of girls out there who are not looking for a Mr. Right at all, and men who'd want to find a love of their life and start that nuclear family.

Definitely every passable girl can find a provider if they are so inclined, it's just a different matter if that's actually what they want and whether they are satisfied with the quality they can pull.

That is a great video.

But it simplifies things too much.

The way I read things is that a minority of men are having sex with women when they are in their teens and twenties. And for them - they are benefiting from the changes in society over the past 50 years. Since they are able to sleep around with hot youg women without having to commit to marriage or being a father.

But that still leaves a vast majority of men who are stuck where they always were. Not getting laid.

And for them - they are settling down in their thirties and getting married.

But they are not settling down because they have gotten 'bored' of having lots of sex with different women.

They are settling down - because the women are about to be thrown off the cock carousel - and are looking to find a husband before they hit the wall.

Which is when they reach for the guy who is grateful for the attention after being overlooked by women his whole life.

The point is that for the majority of men - the changes in society means they get to wife a bitch up in her thirties. As opposed to when she was in her twenties.

And for this men are supposed to be grateful? Well - the only ones who should be grateful are the tiny majority of men who are in demand and have access to the top shelf pussy - without any of the demands and commitments that the rest of the men have placed on them.

That is my analysis. I don't think the changes in society are a good or a bad thing. Since I hate the idea of being married and want to be single forever. As such - the traditional marriage market was never that appealing to me and seemed pretty sad since you would have women getting frumpy in their mid-twenties (after five years or so of marriage). At least now - women feel more of a pressure to try and look good for longer.

Probably everything that involves some sort of exchange can be explained through an economic model (which encompasses a lot more than just trade).

But a key point to remember is that the economic model is just a model. Just because something can be described in economic terms doesn't mean it's always the most useful model. When you renovate a kitchen you increase the market value of a home. That's undeniable and clearly part of real estate economics. But most people who renovate a kitchen do it because they want to enjoy using the renovated kitchen, not because they plan to trade their house.

Good video, but it's not in women's nature to work together like that because they don't have the brain wiring for it.

There biology makes the hypergamy thing there number one priority.

Reminds me of Lysistrata, which, of course, was a comedy.
