Rites of Passage

Rites of Passge that we are able to do in this civilized environment to become better men.

I got this idea from this post by Icarus
http://www.rooshvforum.network/thread-33145-...#pid654939

We live in one of the most luxurious time in history, I myself take things for granted so why not make life a bit harder?

Devising a plan that I could do weekly or monthly throughout the year:
Going out into woods
Fighting
Cold Showers
Bootcamps
Any other examples or ideas you gents have?

Try to find an American girl who's legitimately wife material. That should keep you busy for a while.

Its not about making your life harder. Its about overcoming adversity or proving that you are ready for the next phase, whatever that is.

All cultures have this. Some are more dangerous than others (Moari, Pacific Islands, Native American). To become a Brave you need to show that you have what is necessary.

I see what you are saying though.
Rites of passage in Laners life:

- Stood up to my father
- Trapped an animal (beaver)
- Shot an animal for food
- Built a cabin
- Got in a fight (won)
- Got in a fight (lost)
- Got laid
- Was cheated on
- Cheated on some girls
- Fell in love
- Heart broken
- Buried a family member, a friend and a lover in the same year
- Mastered a trade
- Rode a motorcycle halfway around the world
- Survived a motorcycle wreck

All of these events in my life became points where I knew things would never be the same again. It is no surprise that most of these events happened slightly before or after puberty, until about the early 20's. Most cultures have boys go through a test of manhood around this time. Its a natural step in life.

Every man should have a fat fuckbuddy at least once in his lifetime. You have to learn your lower limits before you can truly appreciate how much better fucking a high end girl feels. Better physically and better for your ego. At the same time you'll learn that the hot ones aren't really special either. It's all hype.

What I'm trying to say is you have to learn to get past their good looks and evaluate their behavior as a qualifier for sex or a relationship.

Banging a fat girl once in your life will show you how appreciative some woman are to have a man. Once you learn what that feels like you look for and apply it to hotter girls. You'll start to disqualify them for being cunts instead of worshipping them for being attractive.

Get married (a couple of years will do... no longer). You will never have doubts about being single for the rest of your life again.

I know it sounds hard to believe, but I think I might actually have found exactly that.

I'm in an LTR for 5 months now with an American girl from California. She's not perfect, but I honestly have much to complain. Not sure if she's legitimately wife material, it's too soon to make that call, but so far so good.

We'll see where this goes. If it goes south then that's fine, I'm still young. Plenty of time and plenty of opportunity to find someone else if this doesn't work out. I'm not to worried about that.

Edit: This is a goddamn inspiring thread by the way. Some of you seem to have a lot of life experience. I could learn a thing or two about life from some of you guys. This is awesome.

Ah shit, I see a dumb typo in my post. I obviously mean to say "I honestly don't have much to complain".

I wish I would have seen that typo earlier.

Rites of Passage

I think to go through a proper rite of passage in our modern "civilized environment" as you put it, we have to escape that very environment to do it. It's interesting to note that when boys went to boarding schools in days past and went through the things that icarus' post describes, they were away from the rest of their family, their friends, their roots, their comfort zone.

I've been thinking about going on an extended solo trip in the rocky mountain forest. Just me, a tent, a pot, a knife, a fishing rod and some other supplies that I can carry with me. I never really thought of the trip as a rite of passage, but I suppose in a way it would be. I know other cultures (as Laner mentioned), both ancient and modern, have had similar trips required of their boys that, when completed, will finalize their status as a man within the culture/community.

The common theme among these would be that they were all solo trips away from loved ones and ones day to day life that required them to find their own way, so to speak. I think there's definitely something to be gained by a trip like this.

This has me thinking that we should have some sort of RVF rites of passage.
Though I suppose one already exists if you count the Roosh Program.

Rites of Passage

-Move to a new city without knowing anyone.

-Recover from a serious injury.

-Lose everything you think you have, at least once. (I've done it twice).

-Take a vacation on your own, to a city/country where you don't know anyone.

-Get your ass kicked at night.

-Raise something helpless. Puppy, child, etc.

-Week-long wilderness hike, 2-mile ocean swim, bike across a State. Something physical where you expose yourself to the wild/elements, and you are forced to make it out on your own.

This, more than anything will teach you survival.

By the time I was 18, I had toured Europe and had taken a cross-county US road trip on my own dime.

Nowadays, I just see too many guys who are whiners who can't tie their own shoes.
The world is there if you want it.

You have to get a drink thrown at you at some point

Rear end somebody in the fast food drivethrough line

Jump a car or 4 wheeler over a hill

Go completely broke and live off $20 for two weeks.

Take a ten minute ice cold shower in complete darkness for ten minutes.

Get your dick caught in the zipper after using bathroom

Accidentally smash your hand with a cardoor.

Do a backflip on a trampoline

Jump off the platform high dive at a public pool

Bungie Jump somewhere. And do a front flip off the edge while you're at it

Jump on a grenade so your buddy can bang her friend.

Mandan Hook haniging.

Now, that is a real rite of passage. After being hooked to your flesh and lifted to the roof for days you are expected to run around the village after they bring you down a few times. Gnarly. I say we bring it back. We'd see the end of 'pajama boy' within a few years.

Here are a few other fun ones. Pain and danger seems to be the one common trend. And the best part is that all participants do it willingly.

Pain does make you a man.

Rites of Passage

Discussed this with buddies years ago as a young virgin teenager... a little off topic but we came up with 3 criteria for being considered a man:

Own a car worth more than 20k

Have consensual sex with a living breathing human female

Clog a toilet without the help of toilet paper

After meeting these criteria I would add only one:

Don't be afraid to take a loss.

two scoops
two genders
two terms

Rites of Passage

A good book on this topic is The Archetype of Initiation Edited by Max J. Havlick Jr.

In it, the psychological ramifications of our society forsaking formal Rites of Passage are discussed.
They also discuss the elements of "Initiation" that should be present in order for the deeper mind to recognize this occurrence as a transitional moment
