UCLA grad students claim: Grammar and spelling corrections are a form of " micro-agression"

The collapse is near.

Here is a slightly different explanation for the situation (w pic). I'm happy to see many comments calling the students out for acting like children.

Some people in the world have absolutely no idea when their next meal is going to come.

Some people are crying over the fact that their professor corrected their grammar and spelling errors.

This world is a crazy fucking place.

They all look Mexican. I can bet 100% none of them are International Students/International minorities. They would never put up such shit over something so minor, and would look at a challenge of not knowing English sharp as a means to improve, not a means to whine and complain.

Burn it down, save it from itself. The more I rot away in school the more I hate it. Higher education is a joke, if its not not a STEM or a Professional Degree stay the fuck away, go learn a Trade.

I honestly can't comprehend the thought process that led to correcting spelling mistakes = racism, it just baffles me.

I'm not American, I've been here for a bit over 2 years and I asked people to correct me when I said something grammatically wrong or if I made spelling mistakes, otherwise you'll never learn and achieve proficiency in whatever language. What exactly are they complaining about? That someone is helping them become more educated? This is racism now? I'm sure every minority in this country is looking at this pathetic group of idiots and thinking, please just shut the fuck up and disappear, you're an embarrassment.

If there's any legitimacy given to these sit-ins it will be a grave error. Being labelled "racist" these days is no small matter. It's on par with being falsely accused of rape.

If this is the direction that higher education is going, you can say goodbye to quality teachers. No intelligent person on earth would subject themselves to this kind of work environment.

In every justice system since the dawn of time, there are harsh penalties handed out towards those making false accusations. To discontinue this is to enable the demise of our best people and institutions. I guess the Salem witch trials weren't enough...

How do these people make it into college if they're lacking in the grammar and spelling departments? Isn't English competence a pre-requisite for college? Especially for the liberal arts majors who I would presume are the only group likely to be responsible for such a thing?

I went to this university and this shit royally pisses me off. These pieces of shit who can't spell yet got in due to affirmative action put a collective smear on the esteemed credential that many of us busted our ass off to attain.

Who are the ones staging protests on Wilshire Blvd for non-English speaking janitors to be paid $18/hr? These same motherfuckers.

Who are the ones who the following week then protest the raising of student fees? Same motherfuckers.

Who are the ones who don't understand the correlation between hiking up wages of negligible employees and the need to then raise student fees? Same motherfuckers.

Our American education has fallen over the years. Many Freshman take remedial math and English classes to get caught up to where they should be. Some surveys have shown people don't even learn very much in their first 2 years of college.

Fuck there was some post about how if a kid doesn't say 2 plus 2 is 4 that he could still be right if he or she explained how they came to that answer. It was some video showing teachers discussing various things. 2 plus 2 is 4 bitch, there is no explanation why it is ok to think it is anything other than 4.

But thankfully narcissism is on the rise in college - so America is still number 1 in something.

Alma Flores, a graduate student in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, became tearful as she talked about the racial discrimination she has faced at UCLA.

“As a woman of color, I should not have to get up every single day to have my identity questioned. … I am tired of it,” she said, crying as she spoke. “I’m tired, and it hurts me so much.”

What the fuck does this even mean?

Quote:Quote:

“There are documented and undocumented stories of a hostile and toxic environment for students of color here in Moore Hall and throughout the campus,” she said, reading from the letter.

I don't know which element of this story I find most appalling.

1. The belief that pointing out spelling and grammar mistakes are "micro-aggressions." When I was in undergrad, most professors took the attitude that 1-2 typos could be forgiven along with perhaps 1 slight error in grammar. But they were generally quick to also remind us that that most of what we turned into them for grading would be typed on a modern computer with a spell checker in the word processor, so forgiving 1-2 spelling mistakes was being generous. In one English class when we were covering resumes, that professor made it absolutely clear that no spelling or grammar errors of any kind would be tolerated. He said that shit won't fly in the real world, and therefore it wouldn't fly in his class, especially on that assignment. These students are working on dissertations that are typewritten. There's no excuse for errors. They even pointed out that some weren't able to properly do a bibliography. How on earth could they make it that far into a master's course without that knowledge is beyond me.

FWIW, micro-aggression= I want to accuse you of being a racist, but I don't have any substantive evidence of your racism, so I will accuse you of committing "micro-aggressions" toward me to make your life difficult, while keeping scrutiny off of myself.

2. Graduate students holding a sit-in is a fucking joke. Sit-ins are for first and second year undergrads. At the graduate level, it's time to grow the fuck up. I'm 37. I work in construction and I've got a college degree. When it's freezing outside, I'm outside working. When it's hot, I'm outside working. When it rains, if the temp is over 50ish, I'm outside working. I'm working with felons, druggies, and illegal aliens. If you can tolerate working in my world, it'll make you hard. Eventually I plan to move back into the indoor comforts of white collar work, and when I do, I hope to encounter some of these whining, sniveling mother fuckers. They'll get a crash course in what hardship really is.

Just wait until leftists at your workplace start complaining about your 'sexist' and 'racist' and whatever-other-victim-class-they-can-squeeze-themselves-into -ist 'microaggressions'.

Remember that white female American who went on a foreign aid mission to Haiti? She was abducted and raped. She came home and wrote an article in which she blamed, not her rapist, but American white males for her rape. If she can twist reality to that extent, just imagine what perceived slights committed by you can be interpreted as 'microagressions'.

Malekith, we are two. You only learn a lenguage by practicing it. This kind of behaviour is not unique to the USA, i have heard morons in my UNiversity moaning because they got lower grades because of grammar errors. But it is not the professors fault, it is yours for not writting spanish correctly! Luckly we do not reach those levels of political correctness.
