Anyone else a huge fan?

Not the cheesy EDM you hear nowadays.

Real trance. High value music in my opinion. Just sounds cool, not from the "underground" hipster angle either.

A few trance cd's in my rotation (no Tiesto/AVB stuff)

John Digweed - Global Underground Los Angeles
Christopher Lawrence - United States of Trance
Nick Warren - Global Underground Reykjavik

Love trance/techno/electronic music.
These are some songs I play when I go out mountain biking or rock climbing.
REALLY pumps you up.

I'm a huge trance fan. I like John 00' Flemming and pretty much any artist on his label. His label is more underground, but it's some of the best stuff you'll ever hear.

Some good artists you should check out (not all from JooF's label):
-Timewave
-Vibrasphere
-Astral Projection
-John 00 Flemming (J00F)
-Cosmithex
-Andy Moor
-Solarstone
-Aly & Fila
-Protoculture
-John O'Callaghan

Damn, I can really go on about this and give a massive list of recommendations. Here are a few tracks you should listen to, which will really put you in the zone... (but only listen with high quality headphones).

Huge Paul Van Dyk fan. Been listening to trance and electronic since way before it hit mainstream, and I hope to still be listening long after the trend dies out.

Am I the only one that gets disappointed that there is no drop after the intros? I must have been infected with the dubstep virus.

Yes, you're probably the only one. A lot times you need patience to listen to listen to an entire trance track. It builds up, and the payoff is worth it.

I consider myself to be an expert! [Image: tard.gif]

Trance is an interesting genre, because many hit tracks from 10+ years ago are still relevant, and many sound extremely dated. Most fans don't consider Sandstorm or Zombie Nation to be interesting tracks.

The sound has evolved and many of the old trance artists have left for greener musical pastures. *Tiesto cough cough*

I'll post some older stuff in chronological order. If you want to hear more like any of these, let me know!

1997 (He's still kicking all kinds of ass btw)

From 2001 (I've met these guys before, they've been in the scene for close to 25 years. Great gents.)

From 2004 (Probably one of the most recognizable tracks)

From 2006 (seriously one of my favorite tracks of ALL TIME)

2007 (another favorite track of mine)

From 2008 (which was probably the end of Trance's heyday)

2009 (you will start noticing how trance begins to slow down, this track just has attitude to it. Love the growling bass sound)

You'll also notice the quantum leap in sound quality that happened in these years.

I'll make another post about more recent trance tomorrow. Things become more complicated because the sheer amount of interesting stuff.

There's SO much I'm leaving out too... Its frustrating trying to boil it down.

Great Thread! I spent many hours attending raves and shows from about 7-14 years ago. These were some of the best times of my life.

What great emotional music.. sort of puts everything into perspective.

2009

Personally, I really vocal tracks. I love the sound of a beautiful female voice. It relaxes me like nothing else. A lot of the ones I post are going to be vocal trance. These singers are multitudes better than popstars.

2010

2011 (this is a faster, techier track which doesn't reflect what was going on in the mainstream trance arena. Its one of my all time favorites though [Image: banana.gif])

Catch the drop that hits after the build starting at 4:45... EPIC

2011 (One of the biggest mainstream trance tracks of the surrounding years)

2011 (Here we begin to see trance morph into the melting pot EDM sound that we have today. I still love this track though.)

More to come!

I didn't like Trance until I started listening to Slacker Radio's Progressive/Trance station, and now it's one of my favorite genres.

Most trance or techno songs have this cold apocalyptic feeling - like the world was nuked a hundred times and this is the only kind of music left. I prefer vocal trance, which is more human, interesting and captivating. Unsurprisingly, it's much more mainstream. I listen to trance without vocals and think, hmm... this is all? I'm with Four to the floor - a female vocal paired with an energetic track is just exhilirating. Also the vocal tracks have a cadence that I prefer, even without the vocal track there.

The only downside is these songs are like strongly flavored food - they taste amazing the first time, but if you consume them regularly you tire of them quickly. Because they're so distinctive and energetic, they have less replay value, as compared to say a smooth jazz song. So you're always on the hunt for more.

I recommend MP3 Skull for 'sampling' music. Mp3skull.com

If anyone has a good list of these tracks, post it up. I've only got about 50 or 60 songs, always looking for more. Most of the songs that come up on Slacker I already have or I don't like. Here's my current playlist. Some may not be trance.

I love trance. Sadly, it is not what it used to be. Tiesto's In Search of Sunrise & Magik, Sasha & Digweed, Paul van Dyk's Politics of Dancing, AVB's UCR, Oakenfold's Tranceport, Holden's 005 Balance ..I can keep going. What do we have today though?...

Good point.

Even Tiesto & AVB were both good back in the day before trance-turned-pop.

Oakenfold's best work still would be Perfecto Presents Another World disc 2.
