Civic all day. The BMW is gonna be expensive to work on. Honda parts are abundantly available and cheaply priced.

I have a 2004 E46 M3 - the prices for the cars are dropping but the maintenance costs are still that of a 50k car. Keep that in mind when you buy, but its a hell of a car - Don't get anything but the m3 though!

SMG is still expensive and troublesome in the city though. 6MT is the way to go.

Go for Civic if you don't want headache.
Go for old BMW if you have the pasion.
I know what I would choose. I hate old cars.
