My priorities are to be close to the beach, reasonably close to school, close to nightlife, and close to a gym/place to box and do ju jitsu. Does nightlife suck outside of Miraflores?

The nightlife that you'd probably be interested in would be in Miraflores or Barranco. There are a few decent spots in San Borja.

Magdelena is not a bad neighborhood to live, less expensive than Miraflores. I would try to stay east of Avenida Brasil, west side gets a little sketchy.

Keep in mind you'll be taking transportation to get around. Combis, or taxis, both very inexpensive in Lima.

Lima is a fun city, especially during the summer months December through April.

Again, great primer and thanks for the info. Everyone remember that Colin Post for expat has a book on Lima coming out. Many if is is fetching, I imagine his book is really solid. Good guy and a smart guy. Seems like he'd like to be a 24/7 writer and a coupla sheckles his way could help him out.

I like some of his stories, but after reading all the stories about his wife throwing insane fits and beating on him (which he's since deleted), removing stories he wrote in the past that his wife wanted him to remove, and moving complete cities and states in the US because his wife demanded it, I can't read his shit anymore.

He had a few stories about his wife going batshit and punching him in the face, even in front of company at a dinner party I believe it was. She sounds like a proper psycho. Not sure how someone could put up with that, let alone have a baby with her. Now when I read his site, that's all I can think about. Ruined it for me.

Rinestone's post came off as commercial mumbo jumbo to me, even though I could NOT quite put my finger on why I came to that impression and he said that he was NOT intending his post to be a commercial. I still really DO NOT know enough about the reference to Colin Post to flesh out my initial impressions that there is a commercial going on, here.

I would rather that the RVF member just point out a link and to say something about the link (it provides a description of X from the viewpoint of Y) rather than suggesting that we buy something. If a guy provides a descriptive link, then we can come to our own conclusion about whether we want to buy anything.

Thanks MOJO. I think I will live in Miraflores and just take taxis to school everyday. It seems like that negative is outweighed by the many positive aspects of living in Miraflores

I am slowly gearing to my next trip in 2014.....
I plan to be spending some time in Huaraz (10 days)...and also thinking to fly into Iquitos...(again tough...no more than 10 days)
Huaraz seem dry... but if we come back...Iquitos and jungle looks all right...fuck I do not know how our bodies will react...
Paleo and Maledefined....so much vibe .....it would be great to connect.
