Should I switch to Mac?

I made a thread here about streamlining my office before and it's now about time I make this place work like a Swiss watch or at least be able to send a fax and print something.

So I'm going to buy a new desktop computer to start this transformation. As I suck ass on computers and would like to get good enough to make my own sites in the future the question is should I switch to Mac??

This is not a money issue it's which one will be better and easier for me to learn possibly which has an advantage working with wordpress?

Yes. You should switch to mac, although its really not going to help you out with Wordpress at all because that's all web-based.

But basic things like organizing photos, making videos to upload, etc., will be much easier for you.

el mech, yes, get a Mac. In your case, it sounds like you need an iMac. Get the 27" because bigger is better. Get this: http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MD095LL/A?

You can keep all options default I suspect, i.e. no real need for bigger hard drive or more RAM. You don't need to order it on line even, just go to Apple Store near you and carry it out (pay first).

Two votes for Mac so far. It doesn't need to be that big
I saw that 27 at the Peach store at the mall the smaller one was 1299 is that about right?

Although I would dissuade using a Mac since PC's are easier and cheaper to fix, macs are pretty durable. Most software comes is available for both systems. It mostly comes down to preference, like iPhone or Android....or SEA/EE/SA.

Like the guy above me said, the memory and hard drive space configurations are good to go. If you want to upgrade later on (Adobe products are memory hogs), don't buy parts directly from Apple. Buy on Amazon or Fry's, way cheaper for the same stuff. It should be easy for you, you're a mechanico.

Mac's are durable and they do last a while. But just like any piece of technology, it's disposable and better versions will appear in the future.

Stick with PC. Customizable to your liking, at a much lower price than a Mac of equivalent specs. In my opinion, if you can learn to use a PC, then you can definitely use a Mac, but it doesn't work the other way around.

That's the thing I never really learned how to use this thing. My brain just doesn't work this way. My posts here are my best computer work.

Yes, that is correct. If 21.5" is more suitable to your office space, then just get that. It's just that the screen is fixed, so if you ever think you need more screen, get the bigger model now. http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MD093LL/A?

Guys have to look at things from em's perspective. He does not want to fuck around with shit at all. Price is not an issue, so cost arguments are irrelevant. I have both Mac & PC. Less things go screwy with a Mac. Shit generally does work. em, just get it and see how you like using it...I think you can return within 14 days no questions asked.

Why would someone need more screen?

I just switched from a regular PC laptop to a Macbook air.

I'm really satisfied so far, mostly because the interface is great, easy to use..

I'm still relatively new to it so as time goes on I'm sure I'm going to find even more reasons why it was a worthwhile switch.

Macs are good for your grandmother or people that do heavy video/graphics editing. Thus the bigger screen and easy user interface. The big cost comes with the name. You can buy much more for less at Frys or Tiger Direct by going with a regular desktop.

I know a lot of computer nerds that like to tinker with their own equipment like programming, upgrading, repairing, ect. NONE of them will touch a Mac. I've been using Windows 7 for two years now without a single problem.

If I were you, I would go to a Apple store and play around with one first. I fuckin hate the way they have things set up. Things that would take me a second to do on Windows takes me minutes to figure out on a Mac. Maybe it's because I have been on Windows for so long.

Besides, you don't need a mac to set up your office.

I haven't used 8 that much yet since I don't run touch screens. They updated it and brought back the start button so it should work similar.

Someone just fly to Tampa and help EM. Windows 8 is kind of awful (yes I have used it); I like Win 7 better. Why do people go on about money? EM can charge extra for some tranny work and it's paid for.

Do things like what? I've had computers since TRS 80 came out and have had nothing but problems with windows, stupid anti-virus popping up all the time, shit slowing down etc then would lose interest in it. I had a dial-up until I found this forum because I only used it for criagslist, ebay and sluts.

There was always some shit with PC so Mac gets rid of all this horseshit?

My kid virused up my lenovo laptop on monster high dress-up the other day I had to re start from scratch and lost my pictures. I get stuck on different browsers that come out of no where.

Does Apple stuff need anti-virus?

$1K for a tower. More than you need but it would blaze and you won't have to upgrade anything in the near future with 16g or ram coming out of the gate. This is half as much as Mac.

Mac has viruses as well. The more popular they become, the more people will be writing viruses for them. To think otherwise is mac fanboy bullshit.

Just go and try out a Mac at the store. Spend some time doing things you would normally do on a computer (send Ali some porn links, download IRT pictures...)

Then go and try a windows 8 (set all the home pages to rooshvforum).

Should I switch to Mac?

I'm a software developer and I switched my work computer from Windows PC to fully loaded MacBook Pro about a year ago. I really like it, mainly since it's a UNIXy system and native command line is great for developing anything outside of .NET. Also the SSD drive and i7 processor makes it screaming fast.

The thing is - do you really need a desktop Mac? Seems unnecesarilly limiting. You can connect external monitors and mouse/keyboard to a macbook and have the best of both worlds. With my MB pro I use a 3x 19" monitors setup at work and 1x 26" monitor setup when I work from home and it's been working great. You can connect any monitor to a Macbook and they are dirt cheap - you can buy 26" under $200, 23" under $100 these days.

A comparable Mac model will run a lot more than $1200. Plus anything all-in-one sucks. One component goes out and your fucked when the warranty expires. I want my computer and monitor separate on a desktop. It's usually too much tech packed into a small space and something is gonna go wrong.

Should I switch to Mac?

This thread is reminding me of game threads where theory is being debated when instead actual approaches should be made. Approach that Mac. Open up with VISA/AmEx/Master Card. Close that deal. Bang away for two weeks, and next if unsatisfied. Shit's not that hard.
