Should I switch to Mac?
Go to Best Buy or Frys and try their keyboards/monitors out.....BUT buy them on amazon, they're cheaper there.
Keyboards with the apple layout have a better "click" when typing, logitech makes good products. Try to go wireless, less clutter and you're not put in one place.

Here are a couple of keyboards that exclusively made to work with macs. They have all the keys that macs need. I would choose logitech keyboards, but the Anker (#5) and Macally (#4) are pretty good too.
What I meant was this. The seperated keys are better than keyboards with grouped keys, something started by Apple. They feel better to type in, you can type faster and typos decrease.

apple wireless keyboard, apple magic mouse, samsung monitor. They are a bit pricy for the apple stuff but for me its worth it to have it all aesthetically matching.
The logitech solar ones seem to get good reviews, I was thinking about that too but then remembered I had an expense account.

Yeah, they're for sale on office depot....ask the sales guy for the Mac type, it should say "Logitech blah blah for mac" on the box.
I have the solar one, battery should last you about 4 months. Buy spare batteries on ebay, 8-12 bucks for a 3-pack.

Although pricey- once I went Mac, I never went back.

If my work project goes well I'll be buying a macbook for home next week and donating my virused up laptop to Ali-B
6 years, two different machines, and not a SINGLE problem: no blue screen of death, never had a virus (I don't have protection and I download from torrents weekly), never had my laptop literally fall apart on me (thanks HP!). The best computer decision I ever made. I'm not a huge tech person, and the switch over was easy and painless. It's all very intuitively designed. My iPhone 4 is at least 3 years old now and works flawlessly. Apple's products really go the distance.

e-mech- for your usages, Id just get a pre-packaged computer package- monitor, mouse, speakers, keyboard (+printer/scanner_. They have a bunch of these at frys/costco. It seems like you want something that will work for 4-5 years.
^^^This should run you about 600-1000 dollars. Not too fancy of a monitor, standard computer. Perfect for the office.... Personally, Id stay away from the all-in-one, unless you want to bolt it the wall or something. Its too easy to steal.
Heres a 23 inch monitor, dell xps i7 3.4 ghz (almost twice as fast), free 1 year antivirus, windows is already installed (which you have plenty of experience with), 12 gb of ram. Price- 850 dollars.

Its going to work for 2-3 years without too much hassle. For the average consumer, this is a great deal cheaper and easier than dealing w/high-end comps.
If you buy a Mac it'll just keep working, with no hassle. That shit don't break.
2-3 years life for the PC? Thats like $280-$425 a year!
My PowerBook G4 is still running ten years on, and does all I need.
Nice one el Mech. You won't go back.

I'm going to office depot to get the rest of the shit I need now to finish this deal then will report back.
If this goes well I may turn into one of those windows haters you see trolling online.

Little late to the thread but I bought a Macbook 6 yrs ago , still running fine except battery not holding same amout of charge, Not once a virus Issue/Break down.
I also needed Windows based lap top to keep work related stuff separate and have gone through 3 of them in the same time frame plus a lot of head ache, One had such a bad virus that you put any USB on it and everything gets deleted and frozen.
From a computer naive stand point, Once you go Mac you never go back.

Staples and office depot were a bust as far as monitors. Best buy? Comp USA?

There is no more compusa afaik. Best Buy is a good bet. Hell, maybe WalMart may have some as well.
Glass finish? You don't want a matte finish? Less glare from fluorescent lights. I'm not a big fan of glass finishes.
Try this one: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/...CatId=2775
LG and Samsung are also decent. Just make sure the monitor is adjustable to how you like (i.e. tilt and up & down).

I am now running Mac at work. I bought a Mac specific logitec keyboard that wouldn't recognize via bluetooth so I called logitec and got
by actual IrTs.
His exact words were my mini Mac is too old for there keyboard even though I bought it new yesterday and it recognized my 4 year old iPhone no problem. He said they made it ( my Mac) years ago and it's outdated. Lol
I hooked up another keyboard to move things along to get that one to work.
Apple cust service is not in
they keep it here
I'll update tomorrow after I get used to it.

I'm so damn sick of this Sony Vaio I'm on. The thing has been a pos since I bought it 3 years ago. Constantly having problems I don't even want to get into how screwed up this thing is.

El mech, do a software update on your Mac. Click the apple logo top left of the screen and choose software update.

Fisto, looks a bit pricey but I suspect that the SSD and AppleCare are tacked on to the cost.
Is this a new machine or used machine? And where are you getting it from?
Whats the RAM on this? 16GB means "its a good price"; 8GB means "negotiate and bring it down a bit".
If not urgent, I would wait till Sep 10 (Apple's event) to see if MBP are updated with the Haswell processor.
Else would recommend a setup similar to elmech.
