These obscene, disgusting performances are not intended to titillate men. They whore themselves out because it is the only thing they have.

Women will NEVER compete against men when it comes to selling creativity, innovation or enterprise. So what we're being sold is them selling what they are best at, the cultural narritve being (de)formed to say this expression is at parity with males and that the rest of us should never dissent against this, or never assert this is not equal.

I've found it more to be the pepsi they drink, they clothes and shoes they wear, the perfume they don, the endless non-durable consumables they are part of to be the message.

Without being too conspiratorial about it, the thought occurred to me that these celebrity self-destructions might be planned out in advance to some extent. I keep picturing some Hollywood kingpin offering young hopefuls a shot at fame and a glamorous career - but with the condition they pull off epic fails that sink public opinion right when they're showing promise and have advanced to the middle stage of their career.

Then after x-th album and y-number of tours, the agent's like: "Sorry, time's up. You have to get a shitty haircut and put on these ass chaps when you perform from now on."

The biggest rivalry is not with other pop stars, but with themselves. Judging by their antics, it's like they feel pressured to top their last big spectacle. For Gaga it's being subversive and arty and for Cyrus it's being a ratchet. They're not aping each other.

She may have handlers going, "you know what you need to make it REALLY big this time, Miley?" And they just egg her on. Or she eggs herself on, as her fans congratulate her, hard to say.
