It depends on what your definition of patriotism is.

Americans (even the ones that don't fly flags on everything they own) are deeply patriotic. Even the most hardcore liberals throw a shit storm simply because they love the U.S. and want it to be better. Both sides have mutual love for the country.

Germans are by far the least patriotic. If you make a comment even remotely positive about Germany, you're labeled a Nazi. Funny how quickly German flags go up during soccer games, but the second they end, they're taken down immediately, or you're a Nazi. Deep, overriding guilt complex from WW2 and it prevents them from thinking clearly or logically about the many great things in their country.

I'd say the French or Hungarians are the most patriotic in Europe. As someone pointed out, Hungarians feel they've been stomped on throughout history (rightfully so) yet still have a deep sense of national identity. Hungarians are the Cleveland Browns fans of Europe.

My experiences were the complete opposite.

Well, there's one thing: they love their language.

And rightly so.

They might be depressed and not happy, but this does not affect their patriotism.

In general Croats, Albanians, Serbs and some eastern Slavs are the most patriotic in Europe.

Some Italians and Spanish are also, but in general italians will not fight ( even physically) with other people to defend their nation.

Swedes, Germans, Danes, Dutch and even English d seemed the least patriotic to me in Europe.

Being the worlds lone superpower and having the strongest military in the world will make anybody proud to be number one. That is true for Americans.


Mexicans

Very proud of their country. They are so patriotic that other Latin American countries get annoyed by it. They are proud of their history, their culture and their tacos. They feel they are the face of Latin America.

I find the filipinos to be extremely proud to be pinoy.

I think it's very important to stress out the difference between "nationalist" and "patriot". A "patriot" is an individual who is proud of his country and his people and commits himself to its wellbeing and progress. A "nationalist" is someone who considers his ethnic group to be culturally/biologically superior to other ethnic group, resulting in his hate and ignorant racism against people of other ethnicities and nations. Modern Russia is a perfect example to show the difference. A patriot is someone who loves Russia and wants a strong Russia that protects his people from all different ethnicities, whereas a nationalist is someone who thinks that only Russians should be considered the legitimate people of Russia, with others being subjected to an inferior status.

I'd recommend to anyone reading this post to NOT doing that... You go around saying fuck America in New York and Los Angeles you will be looking for trouble unless you you're doing it in Beverly Hills or something. The biggest reasons why saying "Fuck America" might not make anyone bat an eye lash is because NYC and LA are numb to is because people in those cities are numb to profanities in general.

SF is the only place that is hippy enough where no one might care, and San Fransisco is a tiny city.

You're being really selective, there are regions in Russia, Mexico and Italy where people there do not even consider themselves to be Russian, Mexican and Italian(perhaps an exaggeration with Mexican as I've never been to the super Indigenous parts, but if it's like other Latin American countries then those places tend not to be super patriotic). Outside of Puerto Rico, America doesn't have that, despite its vastness as a country.

Anyway, as I said, you're being very selective in picking the most liberal cities. Even progressive cities like Boston, Austin, Philadelphia and DC you're asking for a fight if you go around insulting America. Much less try to do that in the South, Texas or the Mid-West.

I am from Germany and can confirm: Germany is BY FAR the least patriotic country in the world!

Germans HATE their country with passion.. I have never seen such self-hatred in other countries (and I have been to quite a few).

We have left-wing politicians who openly say that they hate Germany and that their aim is to destroy Germany - and people vote for them!! Sounds weird, I know, but it is true..

Italians are definitely patriotic. Go to Italy and tell them that you think that *insert other nationality's food here* food more than Italian food, and they'll start to go off lol. That was sort of like my daily experiment with the girls I found that spoke English.

Americans are also very patriotic, you get the people that are on some all inclusive trip or don't travel often types and they'll be busy trying to compare everything to America.. or they'll stay in America, and whenever someone says "I like xyz country more" they'll start talking shit about it immediately like you've offended them...

Israelis are VERY patriotic, more so than Americans. They hold no qualms about it either.

Albanians in my neighborhood in Queens growing up always had their flag on something, but I've never been to Albania.
