Fisto Invades Western Europe (Starting in BCN)

I guess after what Vicious, Soma and Travel Hardcore are saying, maybe Las Ramblas wouldn't be such a good place to go, because of nerves and fears of hustlers etc, I just thought something like that, shouldn't affect a journey in a new place. In London, especially tourist areas, scam artist, hustlers, (whatever you want to call them) do it all the time! I ignore them, and see them from a mile away, I'm used to it, Fisto check out other places, people have recommended, Las Ramblas is too unsafe!

If you wouldn't have said, "I've only been to Barcelona once, and for a one week holiday" I would have guessed it. Hell, I would have bet a few G's on it.

Only someone who doesn't know Barcelona would give that advice, like someone who doesn't know Miami Beach would suggest Ocean Drive.

Not trying to be harsh here, but I have to call out terrible advice when I see it.

I understand what you are saying Mr. Manifesto but I guess I would call this a gentleman's disagreement. Even if it was a week, three months or year, i'm sure with your experience, as you know, when you hit the ground running, you get results, so time frames don't matter. I'm sure there are ton's of guys that have gamed in those places and got great results, and with all due respect, Times Square, Ocean Drive & Las Ramblas are all in completely different settings.

Yeah, I am sure guys swoop girls in a garbage dump in Mumbai as well.

Doesn't change the fact that Las Ramblas is the worst street in Barcelona.

Fisto Invades Western Europe (Starting in BCN)

Hey there guys. So, I’ve been living in Barcelona since October 2012 (although I have been away the last couple of months travelling) and here is my take on it so far.

First things first, the date sheet by LaPastillaRoja is excellent but I have a couple of observations of my own about the city. He mentioned the higher-end clubs (for me, with the more snobby bitches but there are some absolute gems in BCN, with much more approachable and down-to-earth girls in the less posh parts of the city.

A good way to look at BCN is to break it down into barrios (neighbourhoods).

Port Olimpic

This is the area along the beach with high end clubs, with high cover charges and rich Western European tourists making up the typical clientele. If you are keen on Western European (or FSU) tourists who are much, much easier than Catalan girls then it is a good choice. But it is going to burn your wallet. Opium mar, Catwalk and Shoko could be in any city in the world. After being here nearly a year, I haven’t met one Catalan/Spanish girl who goes or who has even been to these clubs. When I have had friends visiting they wanted to go there because they were after some Ukrainian birds. I think they all ended up pulling a group of 19 year old Dutch girls. You don’t need Spanish at all but for me, there are places miles better in Barcelona. Which moves me onto...

Poble Sec

After only being here a couple of months I realised I had to get this barrio asap. I now live here and I basically 100% with LaPastillaRojo about this part of town. It is close enough to all the cool night spots without being overrun by tourists like in El Gothico, or a bit ropey like El Raval. It has a big Dominican community which I really like. It has a nice Central/South American vide to it and for me, it is the cheapest part of town. For example, on my street there are multiple bars with 1 euro beers all day/every day. The main club is Apolo which is pretty famous but I have had good results there. Like your man says in the data sheet, it has different nights that cater to different people. It is a good place to pick up Catalan students and backpackers during the week, and on weekends it plays some decent house music which is what I am into.
But the best part of Poble Sec (and Raval) are the hidden gems. I have stumbled across multiple little bars that look like nothing on the outside, but are genuine and have met some really cool girls inside, as well as some locals who are good lads.

El Raval

Moog is not actually in Poble Sec but in the next barrio along – El Raval. The Raval is my favourite place to have big nights out (Poble Sec is where I bar hop) and Moog is probably my favourite club in Barcelona. This could definitely cause some argument on the forum but it suits me well. I am into the more dirty, grimy clubs, not the poncy expensive ones in Eixample or by the beach. LaPastillaRoja said Raval was one of his least favourite parts of the city. It is one of my favourite. However, I completely understand where he is coming from. You have to be aware of pickpockets but as long as you don’t act like a knob you should be OK. The worst I have had is a couple of lads try and pickpocket me, I caught them, gave them a shove away and they fucked off. But I just love the energy of the barrio. I am a big fan of going out in areas like East Berlin or South London so Raval fits my vibe; but it certainly is not for everyone. It is also worth saying, it is the area where I have picked up the most girls – especially in Moog. As for the club itself, it is a proper caners club, and there are a lot of people on MDMA in there. (Although most people in Barcelona are coked up wherever you go. (I learnt recently that Spain consumes the most amount of Cocaine in Europe and I’m not surprised.)

Gracia

Gracia is where most of my mates live. It t is full of little cool squares where you can drink, and the barrio is where ‘cool Catalans’ and expats who have been in the city a while live. It is slightly higher end with a lot of families. I like the area, and it is a good place to day game but it is just a bit too tame for my liking. You have Sutton and Otto Zutz. For me Sutton is a pile of shit. It is the poshest club in Barcelona and reminds me of one of these pretentious clubs in West London. It is full of posers and it is a rip off. I have been a couple of times when I was dating a couple of different Catalan girls, and no one seemed to be having a good time inside. I have never gamed girls in there though but I think you need to be prepared for bitch shields and shallow middle-class girls although the standard was decent as you might expect. Otto zutz is a standard hip-hop club. All the lads in there think they are Mario Balotelli which is quite funny. Upstairs they play cheese which is fun if you like that sort of thing. The quality is good, and my favourite thing about it, is that there is a good amount of good-looking Catalan girls. Gracia is a good place to meet locals.

Poble Nou

Razzmatazz is the biggest club in Barcelona. It is fucking massive and you need to pick your nights depending on what music you like. You will find decent girls in there purely on numbers, as the place is huge. I like Poble Nou as an area. It is in the process of gentrification but it is the old manufacturing/industrial part of town so still feels genuine unlike the gothic quarter in the old city. I think it is a good place for gaming girls but you need to pre-drink beforehand (whichever club you go to) as the cover is around 20 euros and drinks are expensive inside (again, like all BCN clubs).

Other observations

I have been lucky to have lived in various places around the world for the last 10 years and I can honestly say that after close to one year Barcelona is my favourite city in the world. The vibe is class, the people are real (although it is true that they are ‘cold’ compared to the rest of Spain), and the girls are in abundance and interesting. It has a great mix of expats and locals, and the city is just stunning. There is always a fiesta or street party going on, and if you get bored here then there is something wrong with you.

Catalan girls are tougher than most, but in general they are high quality and interesting girls. BCN is obviously not like Bangkok for example, but if you put the time in, and get a decent social network (this is key) then the rewards are worth it. You can survive with English, but if you speak Spanish so many more doors open (I am functional at the moment), and if you speak Catalan you are God. I have one male friend who is English and can speak Catalan, and he basically can drop 90% of his game as soon as he speaks to locals as they appreciate it so much. The reason for this is that they are fiercely proud of their culture (I dated a Catalan girl for 18 months) and there is a genuine independence movement. I made the decision to learn Spanish as I would rather have the opportunity to communicate with 300 million people than somewhere with the same amount of speakers as Welsh. However, it is without doubt better to learn Catalan purely in gaming terms.

For day-gaming the beach is the place. However, the majority of these girls will be tourists. I day-game at various cafes, usually near universitat metro as this is where you can meet a lot of university girls.
In terms of La Rambla – It is probably my least favourite street in the world. It is full of stags, hustlers, pickpockets, and drunks. The only redeeming feature is that it has La Boqueria (a fantastic food market) and Placa Real (a cool little square with a couple of decent-if a little touristy clubs such as Jamboree). If I have had a tough night without much success I often try Jamboree.

I also agree with the 5 things to know about Catalan girls that LaPastillaRoja said about Catalan girls. They are interested in foreigners, most of them smoke, ONL are not so common, they are proud of BCN and persistence is key. I have a couple of observations to add in terms of where you are from. Many Catalan girls seem to have a negative view of Americans. The girls remind me of having a sort of French opinion of Americans except not as extreme. Brits seem to fair better as long as you disassociate yourself as much as possible from the stag party stereotype. I have seen English guys use it as an advantage by making it very obvious they are not the ‘stag party’ type Brit and turn it into a positive for them. Of course, these are just through my experiences so don’t start attacking me if I have offended you. At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter where you are from if you have game and are an interesting person.

All is all, the city is absolute class. I was only meant to stay a couple of weeks, but met some class girls and I couldn’t leave. For women, nightlife and culture it really punches above its weight.

Fisto - I will be back at the end of September so if you want to grab a cerveza let me know. I messaged you before anyway, but if you need any help settling I’ll do what I can to help.

Cheers – any questions, don’t hesitate.

The main street is anything but dangerous, unless you're a 400lb tourist from a flyover state and dangling your wallet in front of a pickpocket's nose.

However, walk a few blocks west from where that photo was taken and it changes REAL quick. More like this:

It's completely tame compared to any remotely bad neighborhood in L.A., S.F. or NY. There was one night when I was wandering around a somewhat sketchy part of El Gotic and I just got that heightened sense you get when going through a rougher neighborhood.

But seriously, if you're a tall pissed off looking white dude then noone's gonna fuck with you. I asked some locals what's the worst that happens, and they replied, somewhat horrified sounding, "Sometimes they take your money, sometimes with a knife to your face." I got a good chuckle.

The vast majority of crime that people complain about are dipshit tourists that get pickpocketed. I WOULD suggest not walking around drunk though. It's easy to get lost in those back streets.

"...so I gave her an STD, and she STILL wanted to bang me."

Yes, brrrrr. Las rambles sure looks like a scary and rundown neighborhood.

Better go to safe Guyana.

I only saw 4 accidents, 3 fist fights, one massive bar brawl between miners with gunshots fired and 4 hookers beating up on their pimp with a chair in one week.

I mean, ths La Ramblas thing is dragging on a bit now, but my 2 cents is that it is not rough per se, but just a bit of a tourist trap and a bit soulless. Barcelona, as a city, is very safe. In 1 year I haven't seen one fight (Spaniards just don't so it) and I feel safe at night in all parts of the city.

Petty crime ie. pickpocketing is the the problem in BCN, you're not going to get raped in an alley by some coked-up Catalan. As someone mentioned before, you can't compare with some of the US cities in terms of safety. If you have spent any time in big US, or SA cities then Barcelona is nothing in comparison safety-wise.

Ha. Somehow it got twisted that Las Ramblas is a dangerous third world war zone.

That is not the case.

What it is however, is horrible. And to advise someone to go there might be the single worst piece of advice ever given on the forum. To continue to defend it is amazing.

For instance, if I had an enemy that I really wanted to steer wrong, I would tell him to go to Las Ramblas.

But who am I to judge?

Plenty of idiot tourists go there every day. I am sure not all of them hate it.

If you like Las Ramblas, make sure you check out Wet Willies on Miami Beach.

I sure you will love it too.

I can also recommend Moog. It´s not filled with Erasmus students, but locals. You will understand that point when you´re in the city for more than a week.

Apollo and Moog are probably my 2 favourite clubs in the city. Apollo is definitely in Poble Sec as its 2 minutes fro my flat.

Moog is a local place although have seen a fair few foreigners in there. If you like your dirty grimy clubs with decent girls who are into their music then its the place.

Apollo is good on Monday nights, but it is not a high end place. But it's the busiest place on a Monday or Tuesday.

The high end clubs are Opium Mar, Sutton Club, Catwalk, Shoko, Bikini, Sotavento, Boulevard, Hyde Club, etc. They're all good 1 or 2 nights a week, but they're like LA/NYC in that they'll have shitty people there on their off nights. But you'll find out which day has what very quickly.

Note, none of these places are anywhere near Las Ramblas. Unless idiot backpackers and african hookers are your thing, stay the fuck away from there.
