Wake up. Drink Water.

Drinking water is one of the few things where I can feel an immediate impact on my health - either good or bad - depending on whether I'm keeping good habits. I try to drink 2l of water each day, most of it in the morning and with meals. Otherwise, I'm having green tea.

Is there an ideal amount of water you should drink daily? And is there a minimum amount you should drink daily?

I wake up to 1 pint of water every morning and I'll drink another 2 pints throughout the day (non training days) and 5 pints of water on training days.

A few of the poster have pointed out that the vast majority of people do not drink enough water throughout the day, most people take it for granted.

Another thing, never go by what other people are drinking, we all have our own unique hydration needs. Just because three pints is perfect for me, doesn't mean it is for you.

Just drink enough so that you don't feel thirsty and dry. ("Dryness" often occurs around the around the mouth, throat, and lips)

Not necessarily.

Again, just avoid feeling thirsty and dry around the mouth and throat.

Hydration is important for skin and organ health.

Hydration helps us to look our best, feel good, and age gracefully.

This winter, I am not directly drinking a lot of water. I am getting most of my water from teas, vegetables, fruit, and soups.

Drink enough that your piss is light yellow, not dark. If you drink too much water, you'll start pissing clear, and having to go to the bathroom repeatedly. It's not hard to find the happy medium of drinking enough for light colored piss, without drinking too much.

I've heard that drinking extreme amounts of water can be unhealthy, but you'd really have to go out of your way. You'd get annoyed at having to piss excessively before you'd ever get to the point of drinking a dangerous amount.

On a separate note, I find that drinking lots of water helps my food to go down better, and prevents constipation and bloating.

Here's my little problem.

I can wake up from sleep and have maybe half a cup of water and go about my day and not touch another drop for 5-6 hours sometimes lately. I used to live in the desert Southwest for years where being hydrated was a daily routine but now here in the Northeast i don't really feel thirsty even though i know damn well i'm not consuming enough water.

In the morning I fill up a plastic one liter bottle with filtered water from the fridge and drink it over a couple hours, because it's more convenient for me than a glass. When I'm done with it I fill it up with the water we have here at work and repeat.

Water is pretty much all I drink now. I'll have one cup of coffee every now and then and an occasional beer, but that's about it.

I also save a shit ton of money at restaurants since they give you free glasses of water down here.
