Anyone got a belly that won't go away?

Anyone got a belly that won't go away?

^^^ Correction: 100% by an excess of food, "healthy" or not.

The "healthy" part gets into the question why people injest too much. The body should self-regulate but calorie-dense, nutrient-poor food messes with this system.

"Healthier" eating = increasing your nutrient-to-calorie ratio.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

That's nonsense. Fruit is not toxic, man. The sugar in fruits is great, it gives you lots of energy. Also, fruits are mostly water, so they help with keeping you hydrated.

Regarding the rest of the thread, for most people, eating high quality meats, fruits, and vegetables, while generally avoiding grains and processed foods, will yield great health benefits. If the goal is weight loss, avoid drinking calories as well, it's very easy to go overboard on juices.

You easily get too much calories because of eating fruits because eating fruits is fun and makes addicted. The sugar in it is the biggest unhealthy addiction maker in food. That´s the problem. Eating 1kg of fruits is about 800 kalories. At this point you don´t even have any protein.

I think the reason why the last 10-15% is so difficult is that there are no much benefits. As a fat guy one is always somehow confronted with people who find it bad looking or one oneself feels unfit etc.

But at 15-18% there is no much reason to invest energy to do it because you see many other topics where it is more relevant to make a change.

So it´s like gaming 6 chicks and change to game 7-8 chicks. You have to invest energy from other fields in it like working to make money.

This thing about fruit being bad for you is something I've been hearing only in the last 5 years or so. I'm no nutritional expert, but on the face of it that sounds absurd. I can't imagine anyone would get fat on a diet of bananas, berries and apples. Plus they have fiber and vitamins.

Yeah, our bodies stubbornly want to retain on that last bit of fat. We are supposed to carry an extra storage tank of energy, we were designed to have this. We only want six packs for pure vanity reasons, not out of any biological necessity.

A large strawberry has 6 calories(it's mostly water of course). A cup of grapes as 62 calories. A banana has 105, an apple has about the same. Plus because of the fiber content you feel more full from them than you would with something else with comparable calories. You'd have to eat a hell of a lot of fruit for it to become a problem.

My problem though is I love slathering nutella on my strawberries and bananas!

You're lumping fruits into the same category as candy. This is incorrect, fruits are not candy.

Fruits are rich in vitamins and minerals. Also, eating fruits helps your body ward off diseases, plus, they taste great, and since this is a game forum, I'll also point out that fruits really improve the quality of your skin, an added, tangible benefit. If you have trouble controlling yourself when eating fruits, then here's a suggestion, eat your proteins first (I eat about a pound of meat every day, be it filet mignon, salmon, or roast beef, for example), that way you'll already be pretty full once you get to the fruits. Also, the calorie count does differ drastically between fruits, so strawberries, for example, only have like 333 calories per kilogram, and blueberries come in at about 570 per kilogram.

In summary, write off candy, definitely, but don't write off fruits.

I wonder how biking 22-30 miles for the past 10 days every day affects my belly...it's heavy cardio but I wonder if burning so many calories puts my body into hibernation mode and tries to save all the fat it can.

The other day I biked 32 miles, arrived home and ate 3 chilli dogs and 2 hot dogs at 8pm. Talk about an irony!

I don´t say it´s like candy. The problem is that everybody knows that candies are bad but in the case of fruits people sell themselfs that it´s healthy so the addiction begins. Another problem is that you crave more sugar and fat like combining them with ice cream and stuff. Because at some point you want more that´s the danger.

Everything that is fun has the potential to be addictive. In a consuremist culture one has to put energy to fight against it. It´s good to be prepared , in a time of crisis and stress you need to have the controlling habits already, otherwise it´s so easy to become fat.

Fruits increases appetite in gerneral too that has to be taken in account too.

Additional calories will become fat.

Biking is heavy cardio? Perhaps if you're on a constant uphill...other than that, biking is one of the most efficient modes of transportation, as in, it's a form of movement that requires very little energy to get from point A to point B, which means, as a means of burning calories, it's a poor choice, pound for pound, when comparing time invested, versus high intensity workouts like sprinting. I love biking, some weeks I've spent more time on my bikes (I owned 13 bikes at one point) than doing any other activity, including sleeping, so I'm not picking on biking, it's fun, and I love it, I'm just saying, if the goal is to burn calories, there are more efficient ways to do that.

As far as the chili dogs/hot dogs, yeah, I see this a lot in America. Many people exercise, then after they do, they justify eating junk food because they "deserve" it. If you're one of those, then focus on eating right first, and then once you've mastered eating healthy (high quality meats, fruits, and vegetables), then start adding exercise into the mix. By the way, all those fad oils and herbs and all that jazz...you're just making someone else rich. If they work for you, by all means, go for it, but there's no substitute for eating healthy. If you're eating junk, no amount of special oils, herbs or other trendy product will make you healthy. People don't seem to get this for some reason. All those people with supposed "thyroid gland" problems, for the most part those problems are caused by all the junk they eat, just like so many other problems are caused by all the junk we eat. For most of us, if we primarily eat shit, we'll look like shit and feel like shit.

So many fat teachers in a school district near my home go HARD every day, working out like an hour or so, and still manage to be obese. They just don't understand calories in versus calories out. They think they can exercise the fat away, but they're wrong. There isn't enough time in the day, realistically, to burn the amount of calories they're consuming, lol. The reason they're consuming so many calories is because the calories they consume are nutrient poor, so their body demands more and more food to satisfy the nutrient deficiency, which they supply with more and more nutrient poor food, resulting in more and more weight gain.

The solution, for most of us, is a diet of high quality, nutrient rich foods, at the expense, for the most part, of processed foods and grains. Throw in some high intensity exercise regularly if you want to look like a fitness model.

Yesterday's food diary:

Morning blend of ginger, apples, cinnamon and water.

Had a handful of chips (Wavy regular).

Snacked on apples and nuts (cashew, almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, no added salt) until about 4:

My friend and his wife offered me:

Rice and peas with oxtail (Jamaican). Continued to drink water.

Evening - Had fried plantain and stewed chicken breast.

I just opened up this morning with a blend of ginger, apples, cinnamon and water.

To suggest that fruit is as bad as candy is laughable.

They have a totally different effect on the body.

It probably helps a lot but.. Without a proper diet, you can still keep the belly.

Exercise does not always remove a belly.

Eliminating unhealthy food is what will remove a belly.

*****

The easiest way to to tell is to look in the mirror every morning.

Did your belly get smaller or bigger or stay the same?

If it got bigger, you did something seriously wrong and need to adjust your routine..

If it stayed the same, you need to make more changes..

If it got smaller, you are on the right track!

I look in the mirror every morning and track my progress, make adjustments, buy different foods, etc.

I see a potential issue here:

You are not eating much until 4 in the afternoon..

Then, in the evening, you eat a lot.. This is not good for the belly..

You should do the opposite.. Eat a lot during the day.. And, eat light at night..

Have your big meals when the sun is up. Once the sun goes down, stop eating or only eat fruit, a small amount of nuts or your apple-ginger shake..

This should help your belly.

It's actually not that hard if you can just learn how to eat properly.

The hard part is having the discipline to constantly prepare clean meals.

I disagree. I think the problem is he doesn't seem to know how many calories he is consuming every day.

A handful of chips and nuts and fruit throughout the day... you would be surprised at how that can add up to more calories than you need.

I don't care how clean you're eating, if you are eating too many calories of anything you won't lose the fat. As I get older I find I have to eat a lot less than what I did when younger.

@Gio: You're right, keeping a good diet helps more than anything.

I used to be a 28, then ballooned to a 36. After a while I stopped eating bread and eating late at night. Also, I cut my junk food intake. 2-3 weeks later I dropped to a 34. I'm starting to go down on Mexican food and increase my veggie intake. Telling my Mexican household that their food is unhealthy, especially when served at 8-9pm, made their hamsters spin hahaha!

My alternative to looking in the mirror is to see how well I fit into my size 30 clothing. Tried it today and it they fit well, not too tight as before. It's a shame since I just went shopping.

Also, my weight scale might be trolling me. Two weeks ago I was 149, now I'm at 156.4 but my belly is smaller. The only things that have changed is that my exercise routine.

Breakfast - eat like a King
Lunch - eat like a Prince
Dinner - eat like a pauper.

In North America the quality of the food is not the greatest, a lot of our food has hidden sugar and a lot of it is GMO. We also tend to over eat and at the wrong times.

When you go to certain countries, it amazes me how you see so many slim people (gals) in comparison to Canada. Seeing morbidly obese people seems a common sight here now.

I am in my mid 40s and have a decent four pack, I would really have to bust my ass and keep my diet super clean to get the six pack. I have also pretty much cut out red meat, It stays in your system too long.

Restaurant beans are usually made with lard. If you must get beans from a restaurant, get whole beans instead of refried.

Don't worry what the scale says.

Just keep a close eye on your belly.

Muscle weighs more than fat.

This can make things seem weird because your belly is getting smaller even though you are gaining weight.

Don't worry, you are not gaining fat, you are gaining muscle.

The only thing that matters is this..

Is your belly getting bigger or smaller

If its getting smaller, you are doing the right thing.

*****

I always say this but I want to say it again..

Try to go to bed on an empty or almost empty stomach

This will allow your stomach to clean out any excess food that might be lingering in your digestive tract.

You want to wake up hungry.

Yes, I disagree since I was basically eating close to the same way promoted by the intermittent fasting crowd. I was eating most of my daily calories in the evenings with very little in the mornings and afternoon.

At the end of the day, I found it comes down to how many calories I am eating the whole day, not when.

Yes, we should never forget this principle.

Again, with "weight loss" this is certainly true.

Belly fat can be more complex. Belly fat is effected by the quality of calories.

Eating clean pays off in the long run.

Unhealthy food has a way of slowly sticking to your body. It lingers in strange ways.

Clean is much better long term.

I tell people lately I've been eating 6-8 bananas as a pre-workout. One girl gave me a stink eye and said I should watch out with that much sugar as it might make me fat...

It's also true about the nutrient ratio of your good. The body "hungers" for hydration and nutrients. If you eat nutrient dense foods that hit high level of micro-nutrient competent stour body will rarely "hunger" for food. People whom eat empty calories are constantly hungry since they are just giving fuel to the body and nothing else.
