Laundry Management

I always seem to be in a continual 'laundry deficit' - tons of clothes to wash, iron, etc than I have time to do. I have a regular corporate job, a side consulting gig of 10-20 hours a week, and then I'm training jiu-jitsu 4-5x weekly so in addition to time spend that adds a few extra loads a week cause I gotta clean my gis, rash guards, etc.

All in all I'm basically getting home really late during the week, Fridays/Saturdays I'm out doing shit so I try to do as much as I can on Sundays because I'm around the house more often, but even then sometimes I'll have stuff going on Sundays and I only get in 2 loads when I really need to do like 4 or 5.

Besides having a chick or a maid do it for you, how do you other busy guys manage your laundry - particularly if you originally didn't have a handle on it and then found a way to run a tight ship.

Take all dress shirts to the dry cleaners. Ironing is time consuming and they do it better anyway.

As soon as you come home put a load in the washer. Start dinner. When the washer is done transfer to the dryer. Pull clothes out while they are still hot and fold/hang to prevent ironing. If you forget throw in a wet wash cloth and reheat.

Wear jeans more than once. Shirts can too if you don't wear all day and use wife beaters. Use dryer sheets.

1st world problems.

Do you mean there are people who wear jeans only once before washing?

Here is a related question: how often do you guys dry clean your pants, the ones you wear to work?

Throw in a wet wash cloth and reheat until it's dry? Never heard of that before but definitely will try it as it's real common for me to leave shit in the dryer if I get distracted. Thanks for the tip.

Many laundromats will do your laundry for $1/lb, especially the bigger ones. If they don't offer it, the lady who is supervising the facility will do it for you for that cost anyway.

Your time is too valuable to waste on laundry.

I pay about $12 every week for wash, dry and fold.

Ok..let's not go crazy here. Am I the only one who wears pants to work for 2 weeks without washing? How about shirts? I maybe wear it 2-3 days..alternating with others, but I don't wash them only after one use. Same with everything else...lol.

if you are not sending your clothing out to be laundered, you either a) really like hanging out in the laundromat or b) have nothing better to do. think about it, in the hours it takes you to do this what else can you be doing? Get a laundry bag, throw your dirty stuff in it, drop it off somewhere good, and if the guy behind the counter gives you shit, go half a block down the street to the next one. It costs nothing.

For fine clothes, make sure you find something that works. I have had several dry cleaners who were late or ruined my suits and shirts. This is the cost of working with these people. You will eventually find one that works.

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue.

I do sports 4-5 times a week and wear different clothes during the day and at night when going out.

This results in what seems an endless accumulation of clothes to wash.
Not sure how you US guys do it, but I wash my black, white, colored clothes and underwear/socks separately.

Ultimately laundry is a huge time consumer.

This would get me two shirts done.
Unless I'm willing to spend $200-400 a month this is unfortunately not an option where I live.
