I like artsy girls in general, but often they've overbearing and overconfident, fueled by their status of "intellectuals", above common girls, so they require lots of game. Once you get through that, they are rather slutty and aren't too disagreeable.
i disagree. i really wouldn't say i have much game, but without a doubt, artsy girls are significantly easier to game than other cliques. just fuckin talk to them about artsy shit. i've noticed consistently that you as a man can have contrasting views on everything in relation to their own, but if your taste is killer, you're in. seriously. this is a community that prides itself as being the opposite of the superficial society that is pop culture, but they're just as bad only they attribute it to your taste and your knowledge of taste.
a good edge to have is to read about underground music history from 70s and on (allmusic.com click the genres to get overviews of history, find some bands that interest you, start there, look in related sections of bands and it'll be like a spiderweb of information). if you research the scenes, see the connections through the history from genre to genre, you will definitely have an intellectual edge. it's rare people give even a little bit of a fuck to find this stuff themselves, but they always love to people who know their shit about art. i don't know why. it's just knowledge. not a skill. but it works so w/e.
~~bands/artists they flock too:
radiohead (definitely the most important)
animal collective
joy division (watch out for girls that claim this as a favorite band, read about them and their lyrics and you'll know why)
my bloody valentine (not bullet for my valentine)
new order
-old- arcade fire
atlas sound
deerhunter
broken social scene
WHY?
nick drake
st. vincent
the smiths
sigur ros
panda bear
yo la tengo (if you find a girl that can name more than 2 albums of theirs that she listens to, she is probably one of the cooler art girls you will meet)
those are the big highlights and USUALLY every art girl in a city listens to at least one of these bands. also it's crucial to mention that 90s rap is extremely popular in this scene because they like it "ironically" and think contemporary rap is tainted and is all about booty. if rap is your game then talk about it in a light hearted context, because they do not take it seriously.
with books and other mediums it's significantly narrower.
with books all the classics are a given, and contemp. post-modern fiction in the likes of: dave eggers, johnathan safran foer, the guy who wrote The Curious Case Of The Dog In The Night Time, and shit like that.
i really don't know shit about painters outside of georgia o'keef and picasso. sorry :/
hope this helps dude. have fun.
