Dope Hip Hop/Funk/Soul/Breaks mixes (with downloads)

Thread for posting your favourite mixes, old and new. Try to grab ones with a download link if possible, and brief description.

The Ghostface Mix by J-Class. This goes hard right off the bat, would've liked to see a couple tracks like Mighty Healthy that didn't make the cut, but that's a minor point in a really dope compilation.

https://soundcloud.com/djjclass/ghostfac...lass-final

Straighten It Out by Jim Sharp. If you're a fan of Dj Neil Armstrong's "Original" series (where original samples are mixed with the songs that flipped them) you'll definitely be feeling this one. Jim Sharp also has a 2nd mix in that theme that recently came out on the Soundcloud page.

https://soundcloud.com/jimsharp/straighten-it-out

Press Play Mix by Dj Illo x Dj P-Sol. I can't say I've heard a mix by Illo that I didn't enjoy, and this has a great range of old and new, mainstream and golden age. The Onra drop is hype, he's easily one of the most slept on producers these days.

Bumping this, I'm sure others have some contributions too.

The 1st half of Original - All Out King aka AOK part 6 by DJ Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong is considered one of the greatest mix djs of all time, a perfectionist who's continually digging and pushing new concepts. This is just the first half of a hype quick cutting mix, it's worth buying the entire one as it's something like 70+ tracks in total. This features both new 2000's and classic tracks (i.e. Gang Starr, Big Daddy Kane, Talib Kweli, etc.) mixed together with their respective original samples. If you're a Kanye fan you'll definitely enjoy the long tribute section through the middle.

Best of Flume

More electronic type beats compared to traditional hip hop, Flume has a great sense for balance between chill sections and big drops. Couldn't find a dl link for this, but you could always rip from Youtube if needed.

Good thread. Good lookout on the flume mix, solid.

I like http://www.pipomixes.com.

Lots of good mixes there, and tons of hidden gems. Just need to dig through.

Alright I was going through the archives, time for some more:

Best of Dr. Dre by DJ JS-1

Realized I didn't have much Westcoast on this thread yet, and this is the best Dre mix I've found so far, from the description:

"80 min mix of all things Dr. Dre... a collection of beats, samples, songs, collaborations, appearances, etc"

http://www.djjs1.blogspot.ca/search/labe...LOGY%20Mix

While we're at it, this single instrumental always makes me miss driving down the PCH on a warm day, perfect G-Funk vibes:

Jeepney Sound Vol 6 by DJ Pump

No, this isn't a Tagalog mix, but rather a hip hop and neo soul compilation that has reached over 100k downloads in various forms. Lots of boom bap, but also some more smooth and slow beats, so expect to hear Musiq Soulchild, Common, Slum Village, etc. Where this mix really shines is the J Dilla tribute section, a great mini-mix of some of his hottest tracks and samples.

https://soundcloud.com/dj-pump/jeepney-sound-vol-6

Strife.tv Bboy Mixtape by DJ Fleg

I noticed the Lean Rock mix is down from the opening post, you can still find more of his stuff on his page. Along the same lines, here's another mix full of fast paced bboy breaks. A variety of drums layered over even more percussion, expect to hear sped up edits of Pete Rock, The Roots and even a Jay Z/Kanye - Otis instrumental remix. This stuff is great for a workout or if you're going for a run, you'll know within the first 5-6 minutes if you're feeling it as there's an epic intro and then the instrumentals set the pace for the rest of the mix.

Check out Voodoo Funk. This German DJ scours Africa for abandoned, and long forgotten African Funk sounds.

Alright, time for some more, both with download links.

I'm definitely a sucker for J Dilla tribute mixes, and they've been a dime a dozen lately, though I feel this next one stands out from the pack.

DJ Nu-Mark is a name you should already know from his work with Jurassic 5 and his dope live shows (i.e. search Youtube for his "Toy Set").

Here he is with a short J Dilla Tribute, packed with classics, along with some of the lesser known beats/collabs:

https://soundcloud.com/unclenu/raise-it-...to-j-dilla

Next up, a more comprehensive mix still focusing on one man, but a God among emcees, Rakim.

Dj Hedspin does a great job on this one, and his bio is probably the funniest I've read on Soundcloud, so it's worth clicking on his name just to read the life story of a self-aware Filipino in Canada.

I've said it on this forum before, when the debate comes up regarding the top 5 or top 10 rappers of all time, if your list is missing Nas and Rakim, you're missing out:

In this post we bring back the funk!

Our RVF member The Lizard of Oz inspired me to drop this next link, an all 80's Boogie/Funk/R&B mix from DJ Pump and Wax Romeo. Featuring classics from SOS band, Kashif, Fatback Band, The Whispers, Midnight Star etc. this is full of great grooves.

For track list and description: http://theehteamdjs.blogspot.ca/2011/04/...es-11.html

Direct dowlnoad link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/nbt9nh...ES+11_.mp3

Little bit of sampling history as well, the first song by SOS band in the above mix was flipped by Onra to make his own "High Hopes" track that was included on the Press Play mix in the first post of this thread:

As some of you may have noticed, I'm a big fan of Onra.

I'd be slacking if I didn't drop this next mix he did with Lexis, full of smooth vocals over dope beats.

Onra & Lexis "THROW' EM UP vol.1″ (Mid-90's R&B classics) with the following format:

"So, the “rules” they gave themselves were simple: 1) the mix begins at the point when New Jack ended 2) the mix finishes around ’96 when a producer named Tim Mosley completely changed the R&B landscape. (that will be vol.2) 3) MC’s featuring on R&B tracks were ok, but not the other way around. 4) Only one selection per artist (that was tough)"

Tracklist and download available on both links:

It's been a while since I posted up a new mix, and as soon as I heard this latest one, I knew it would be perfect for this thread.

Some of the best Jay Electronica tracks mixed by Jedi1200 (not a comprehensive mix but still hype):

If you enjoyed the above mix, here's a couple more of my favourite tracks that weren't included:

This is a quick post and I'm not posting links, but I'll suggest to those using Soundcloud to download Soulection episodes. They're at 218 episodes and each is at least a couple hours long... these have been my go-tos for downloads that I can let play for long rides or hikes, while keeping me feeling good.

I've gone through some of the tribute mixes since the death of Sean Price, and DJ Static of WeFunk Radio provided one that was short but sweet, and full of classics:

I've noticed a lot of the mixes I've posted previously are now broken links or taken down, PM if you still want a listen and I'll try to find a download link too.

Back with one of the hypest compilations I've heard in a while, we have The Best of Jay-Z by Maneesh (formerly DJ M-Rock) out of Toronto.

As a connoisseur of "greatest hits" style mixes, even I was surprised at just how much work went into this compilation.
