Latest issue of Esquire, Leonardo DiCaprio is holding a cig at the bottom of the pic along with his phone. Thanks Leo : )

Sorry to ruin the party, but I work where I have to deal with the results of it, and smoking is pretty much the single stupidest thing you can do in life. Except maybe shoot a cop.

The Vodka, not that bad-- your liver has a lot of ability to bounce back.

Smoking? 1/6 chance you win the Cancer Sweepstake!!

But wait, there's more! It'a actually about 1/4 if you smoke more than 5 stylish ciggies a day.

Feel lucky, nonchalant and cool guy?

For anyone who's worried about getting lung cancer from cigarettes, just smoke weed as well

History is not linear, so hypothetically one could argue that smoking will come back in fashion as it was in the Mad Men era. Still, I don't see that happening. There's been a determined and generation-long propaganda war against smoking that is not going in reverse. For a detailed look I recommend a book "Velvet Glove, Iron Fist", a fascinating treatise on the war on tobacco that had been waged ever since smoking was invented.

Smoking can be "cool" in your particular context but society-wise? I think not.

If dissemination of multiply verified scientific data is propaganda, then that propaganda is good.

What is really propaganda is what Big Tobacco did for years to fight the horror show they helped create.

It's a good testament to Gubmint that they got that info out in spite of Money.

I don't smoke, I hate the smell and I like my lungs too much, but I can see how smoking gives you openings you wouldn't have otherwise, like taking a break and going out to smoke where you see other people and can engage in some type of conversation; you can ask a girl or be asked by a girl for a cigarrette, a lighter or whatever and go from there, but still I don't see it as cool at all, maybe because I come from Europe and so many people smoke there (a lot less than a decade ago, but still), so you just look like any other chump lighting a cig, not you being a cool, suave and wordly gentlemen at all. I see it as a weakness, just like being addicted to any other kind of drug, but hey, whatever works for you, if you truly enjoy it and it gets you layed, than by all means keep doing, just don't try to convince people it's cool.

My guess is that smoking will come back into style when cancer is redefined as a metabolic disease such that carcinogens play less of a role than diet and lifestyle.
This conclusion is hard to pass up because cancer rates are increasing throughout the world even though there are fewer smokers, so it's likely that eating processed foods and being a big fat fuck are killers.

God forbid they ever actually cure cancer, because then smoking will lose its edge and be just as blasé as chewing gum.

Chewing gum will probably now become a leading cause of gum disease or something, and people world wide will start anti-gum campaigns. I can see the news reports now. Imagine, some little redneck kid crying "IF GUM WEREN'T 'ROUND, MAH PAPA WOULD STILL BE ALIVE." At least it would be easier to deal with than the anti-gun campaign...

Also, the carcinogens play less of a role in the lung cancer process than radiation in the product.

I don't like kissing girls who smoke. There voices also get lower and more raspy.

With that said, sometimes I wish I smoked. Having the easy openers would be nice.

As for openers, the e-cigs work well, too. Until they become commonplace many chicks don't know what they are. I often get asked why I'm chewing on a pen. Crack a joke and it's on. So if you don't smoke, no need to start - get an e-cig with a 0% nicotine liquid instead.

I think the e-cigs look gay. Don't half ass it, you're only young once. You can worry about death when you're too old to get a boner.

Why should anyone care what you think looks gay? Versus an important health issue.

Well, looking "gay" could be a health issue if you run into a gang of Skinheads.

A little smoke in your lungs is way more "healthy" than a baseball bat to your head and a steel toe boot party to your brain.

Exactly. I go to the smoking area (unless it's inside, that's fucking gross) and open girls.

I know a guy who vapes with a 0% nicotine cartridge. He has a huge tattoo on his forearm that says "Straight-Edge" in stylized letters and listens to the Insane Clown Posse. Every few months he dies his hair or gets a mohawk. The guy is an enormous faggot and he's not even into guys. If you're not going to buy actual cigarettes and light up don't bother giving off the illusion.

Part of the allure of carrying smokes is that you can approach with the G's line or bum them out to strangers and obligate them to about six minutes of conversation. You can't do either with a vape.

And Architekt, yes, that's true. It's a product of the fertilizers they use in growing tobacco. That's why organic tobacco (like what I'm going to hopefully plant this summer) grown in regular dirt is not as harmful.

There ain't nothing better than a smoke and a coffee in the morning. I think we all do stuff that could kill us, quickly or slowly. A good majority of my relatives have smoked well into their 80's without health issues. Sure, it's not healthy across the board, but like anything really you're just taking a gamble on it. You're rolling the dice every time you get into a car, but you just don't think about it as much.

My grandpa smoked two packs of lucky strike non filtered every day. The man smoked so much he had tar stains on his fingers. He also lived to be 75. That's not bad if you ask me.

Smoking cigarettes is one of those things where those that do it are forced to rationalize their behavior because of the obvious health concerns.

Those that argue for it are addicted to it, so obviously it is hard for them to judge the situation rationally. Therefore, they have to make up reasons that it would be okay for them to smoke (i.e. it will save me from getting into a gang fight, girls).

Yes, smoking may help you get some lays. But at what cost?

I quite like the nicotine high. I detested smoking when I was young, for health reasons, but now I don't really care that much. If I had some kind of vape I'd probably use that, but I don't really smoke often enough to warrant the investment.

Depending on where you are, about $5 a pack.

Sounds like a bargain to me.

The cheapest pack of the shittiest smokes here are no less than $11. Your average mid-range pack is $15-18 - for a 25 pack

Your posts are usually great, but I think your argument here is weak.

i think the half-way measure to take is to ALWAYS CARRY A LIGHTER.

you don't have to smoke, but when the girl asks you for a light and you don't have one...

there goes the bang.

too many have slipped the net, i always carry a lighter in my leather jacket.
