Cosmo for Latinas

Say goodbye to the beautiful, bright-eyed man-pleasing Latinas that we all know and love. Cosmo is releasing a version of their magazine targeted at Latinas.

http://www.cosmopolitan.com/_mobile/cosm...iere-issue

The future for South America is fat 40 year old women with bob cuts who still think they're sexy.

The magazine is in English.

That would imply they are targeting Latinas in the US, which makes sense since they are a growing demographic.

I have boots on the ground in Mexico and so far the only feminist women (chopped off hair, manly attitudes) I have met were girls who spent their teenage years living in the US.

Truth be told, Latinas in the US are already a bunch of fat bitches with mucho attitude. The only ones that sometimes aren't have planet-sized egos because they're mad scarce or are between the ages of 16 and 18, and therefore illegal for you to holler at in most jurisdictions.

It's true. My friend chases around his fat Colombian wife calling her "Chiquita"(little one) and "My Princess". I cringe when I'm around them.

She drops this line once in a while, "If you want my nails to be pretty all the time then you'll do the dishes". And he does them.

Cosmo already exists across the world.

How Cosmo Conquered the World

Quote:Quote:

(“If all the Cosmo readers from around the world came together,” read a recent piece in Cosmo South Africa, “this group would form the 16th-largest country in the world.”) Through those 64 editions, the magazine now spreads wild sex stories to 100 million teens and young women (making it closer to the 12th-largest country, actually) in more than 100 nations — including quite a few where any discussion of sex is taboo. And plenty of others where reading a glossy magazine still carries cachet. (“Many girls consider a hard copy of Cosmo to be an important accessory,” says Maya Akisheva, the editor of Cosmo Kazakhstan.)

There are worse things that the US could be exporting across the globe than Cosmo though. Jezebel-style feminism comes to mind.

Any number of magazines, both for men and women, have foreign editions.

The "cosmo for latinas" menu, in order:

1. Beauty
2. Fashion
3. Love/Sex (eg monthly review on how to suck dick like a pro)
4. Food/Cocktails
5. Your job, your life, your dream

I wouldn't worry too much about cosmo corrupting any woman who already predisposed towards pleasing a man.

edit: sure enough, this month's blowjob article is for skittish women who are afraid of putting cocks in their mouth and need some encouragement: Oral Sex Alternatives

Quote:Quote:

If you don't want to go all the way down
Try licking, kissing, sucking the tip of the penis and the shaft. Just remember not to use any pointy tongue action, keep a flattened relax tongue. While licking or sucking the tip, grab the base and stoke your hand up and down. Keep a firm grip, but don't squeeze too hard. Switch up how much pressure you use throughout, and when you know he's getting ready to climax, speed it up.

The rest of the article is padding.

You're falling into the U.S trap of thinking South America is some homogeneous place. Argentines, Uruguayans and white Brazilians won't pay any notice of magazines like this, as they have no idea what a 'Latino' is. They identify with Europe and see themselves as Europeans to be honest. In fact, as I've discussed in many threads, the 'Latino/Hispanic' thing is strictly North American, a way for the Nixon administration to fit a lot of diverse people into one box. Zoe Saldana would be just as much a minority in Argentina as she would in the U.S. I mean, I came across a thread on a boxing forum asking whether Lionel Messi was "white or hispanic'...

I mean, even this article somehow assumes Messi will resonate with 'hispanic' America, when he himself will not. I don't know what it is, are white 'WASP' Americans afraid of being associated with Southern Europeans or something? Argentinians, and most white South Americans DON'T look like Chris Arreola etc

Yeah, it's weird and just shows how fucked up race relations are in America. Basically, white anglos in America will never look at a spanish speaking person as a fellow white person. They can have blue eyes, blonde hair and pale skin but he wont be considered white to them because of the spanish last name and language. Americans think all spanish speaking people are tied together (where the hispanic/latino label comes into play) which as you know, is not the case at all for a lot of countries.

"Messi" isn't even a Spanish last name, it's Italian. As that's what he is, an Italian Argentine, like thousands of others. Another one that makes me laugh is Marco Rubio, he looks exactly the same as some buttoned-up white middle-American (which, of course he is) and yet in every article I read they go on about his being this non-white saviour of the Republicans. It's insanity.

Pretty much all of the Argentines that are in the NBA are of Italian ancestry, and played professionally in the Italian league as well as for the Argentine National Team. Manu Ginobili, Fabricio Oberto, Luis Scola, Andres Nocioni, Carlos Delfino and Pablo Prigioni all have Italian surnames. Pepe Sanchez, who played college ball at Temple and played a couple of years in the league is the only Argentine player of note that had a Latin surname.

Technically, Italian surnames are Latin too...in fact, more so! [Image: wink.gif]

So are French names. So I guess that makes Italians and French non-white. [Image: dodgy.gif]

It's always a relief to hear from people that understand the complexity of race in Latin America. Most Americans, even the Latinos here are clueless about it.

To be fair to the otherwise trite article, the article's position is Messi will resonate only to the extent that Soccer is popular with 'hispanic' America, which is not unreasonable. They compare Messi's relevance in the US to Kobe Bryant's relevance in Europe.

That is: Kobe Bryant is one of the best, most recognizable basketball players in the world. He'll resonate with European basketball fans regardless of their cultural background or ethnicity. Messi will resonate with soccer fans in the US regardless of their cultural background or ethnicity, and soccer tends to be popular with the growing Latin American population-- who have many differences but all tend to enjoy soccer more than the average American.

It really doesn't seem that strange to me. From the perspective of a typical American, their language and willingness to share in the same cultural activities is how connections are made. Should Americans really be expected to care how many different subcultures are at the Latino bar watching soccer and the Spanish-language broadcast of the Yankee game?

Americans think all Spanish-speaking people are tied together because, to the extent it matters to a typical American, they are.
