This will be a thread for guys who have served in the military for for specific resources for vets. I just saw on the news where Cisco is planning on training and hiring 100K veterans by 2020.

If you have any questions regarding the G.I. Bill, I can help. I've used it for two semesters and I was a work-study at a veterans center.
I will post a list of the biggest contractors for the military. They normally hire vets for most of thier positions. I have a buddy who just got on with Honeywell and is headed to Afghan doing logistics for 200k. I have an example of his resume. He networked to get the position though because he knew the hiring manager.
Great thread. We have so many programs, resources that it's rediculous. I think the President recently sign another bill for us. If you are a vet and willing to move a 50k position is too easy to find. I just got on with L-3 makeing 23hr doing supply work. I have no degree but military experience.
Don't let it happen, make it happen.

I can provide assistance on resumes. Reports keep coming out about vets not being able to find jobs. I find that hard to believe, and don't understand the disconnect. As TexasMade said, the number of programs out there are mind numbing. I'm still finding new ones. Just Google "veterans initiative project".

Non-profits include way more than soup kitchens, this can be an amazing opportunity to gain knowledge and kickstart a career in a variety of fields.

I was active in Navy for 4 years and active reserves (Seabees) for another 4 while going to school. I got mobilized to a Seabee unit in Mississippi during school.
I used to be part of the NY state militia when I was with the reserves. I remember they would pay for your state school tuition on top of the GI bill. You generally had to go to a few meetings a month (evening) and also do some additional work in the community or state government if asked.
Not sure all militias pack this program but for those that are trying to get a degree, it's not bad.

The oil/gas industry is actively seeking the productive members of Generation Y. No worries though, the others (liberal arts) can blog about the former's big salaries.

The trend to hire vets has been there for awhile, but has picked up since the offshore labor shortage is getting so bad. Get it now and stack some cash while the getting is good.

Any vets able to provide info on the GI Bill. I am going army ocs in a few months and the army has cancelled their college loan repayment program. Is their anyway to use this money to already acquired student debt rather than being forced to use it for post-grad courses? Thanks in advance, and as always, thanks for your service.

Any 63B/91B hit me up. There is a program with Weatherford that offers six month training, 16hr, room and board, 50-70 hrs a week in Big Springs Texas. Once you finish the six month program you be come a certified Machinist I or Machinist II. Program begins on the 8th with a 2500 dollar sign on bonus. After the training, you can sign a two year contract and you start at 23hr.
I applied last week and got a reply to fill out additional info on Friday. Tried contacting the manager. The had 30 openings.
I am a 92A but shot in the dark anyway. You never know. My bro is already in West Texas making that oil money. PM me for the forward.

What are the opportunities for those that happen to study a foreign language at the DLI, especially one of the tougher ones such as Farsi, Arabic, Korean?
Anyone study there? I scored well on the DLAB and am hoping to get an opportunity to go there and get paid to learn a language.

The opportunities are good - as long as you can get the highest security clearance. Basically you would be going to work for the NSA.
Whoops - you're going to Army OCS? You will probably not be going to a long language school, those are mostly for enlisted. You would have to be commissioned in MI branch for it even to be thought of.

With some student loans you can defer repayment for up to four years of military service, interest-free. Maybe your debt will be inflated away by then.

I am up here now. They are hiring people on the spot. Still have about 30-50 positions open. 12hr shifts Mon-Fri and optional Sat 8 hr shift. No vacation till after the six month period.
Momey wise idk yet. Havent interviewed. I am hearing 16-22. The are hiring leads, superviosors who dont really have machining experience. I doubt Ill take a job. I wanted a 15 days on 7 days off deal so I can trvael. Now after your six montha you can transfer. We will see. If you need a job there is another one in two weeks. Just remember this is straight production and not actual oilfield work. Either way once you are in with Weatherford they may take care of you.
