Do you think N. Korea is going to bomb the U.S?

Quote:Quote:

What do you think?

I think this can't be a serious topic. N. Korea is a terribly impoverished.

The infrastructure can barely keep the lights on in the homes of the populace and the food shortages are so bad people have resorted to cannabalism.

They have the funds for one bomb that couldn't get half way across the Pacific. If they bomb S. Korea, we invade and the army folds in 2 months. What is there to be afraid of?

The have some missiles that can maybe reach Hawaii or the west coast, but America has some legit missile defense.

Missile defense will never work (for ICBMs; warheads that deploy in the atmosphere are a completely different technical problem and it's solvable). It's all about spreading money to congressional districts and convincing voters that they are being protected. Despite that I'm not worried about NK. They have rocket technology that barely works and aren't really improving. You better believe we will not let them deploy working stuff.

I'd be a lot more worried about South Korea. I just bought some out of the money puts on the EWY ETF in case someone miscalculates and war breaks out where Seoul gets heavily shelled.

Bolded for emphasis. The North Korean missile program is a joke. Only recently have they even succeeded in launching a missile- that is, getting it to lift off without blowing up. They don't have the educational system necessary to produce the kind of advanced physicists needed to develop this kind of technology. In fact, this kind of technology is so advanced that only a select few nations are capable of producing long-range ICBMs.

Paranoid U.S. citizens really have nothing to worry about, but I can't say the same for the citizens of South Korea....
that rocket dismantled within 40 seconds, they can launch a rocket but they can't actual get it anywhere intact. the bomb would probably implode over themselves

The morale of the average NK trooper is likely pretty dismal. People talk about them being fanatical which probably is giving them too much credit, that alleged fanaticism will likely crumble when they are subjected to the total American air superiority that will make any advances terribly costly.

Yeah, if they invaded South Korea, half of them would probably freak out and surrender when they saw how much food there is.

I'm in Korea right now, and there's nothing to worry about really. Everyone here is as chill as fuck about this whole situation, and these guys would all be drafted to fight if shit hit the fan, so trust me when I say they're a good measure of the situation.

Also, there's a lot of dodgy facts being thrown around. NK destroying Seoul in 30 minutes? Hah, not likely. Most of NK's artillery is out of range of Seoul. As I understand it, only their biggest guns (about 300) can hit Seoul from their current locations. SK will definitely be watching for all these other artillery pieces moving into position, and there's no way they'll let em do it without preemptively attacking. Also, What are SK's guns and planes doing while Seoul's being destroyed? They're killing NK's artillery.

If NK hit Seoul it would be shitty, and a lot of people would die, but if you were chilling drinking a beer while all this is going on your chances of dieing in the attack would be crazy small. Seoul is fucking huge.

Also, there's no way in the world that NK could win a war and take over the south. All of their planes, tanks, and military hardware is rusty old Soviet era shit that hasn't been properly maintained in forever. Their pilots get next to no flight time cuz the North doesn't really have much in the way of fuel. (Same for their tank crews) It would be a slaughter, and the top brass knows it.

NK's top range missile is thought to be able to hit Alaska, but that's it. Also, everyone is certain that they don't have the tech to put a nuke on a missile. (You need to shrink a nuke down real small to do it, and like another poster mentioned, their nuclear tests haven't been entirely successful yet, although this last one was the most powerful of the bunch)

The biggest danger is NK pulling one of their little stunts and the south escalating it into a war. A while ago they shelled an island near the border and killed some people. If they try some bullshit like that again, from what I hear SK's gonna hit back. That's where the real danger is.

I'm not too concerned though. Life here hasn't changed in the slightest.

I'm not usually a hawk at all... and don't like the mentions of intervening in places such as Syria or Iran.. and don't mind the cuts in defense... with all of that being said, its to me it becomes personal when there is a regime on this earth (no matter how unqualified) making threats against the United States.. I wouldn't mind operations to take this Kim Jung punk out

NK and SK will be one within 10 years. Kim will try to go to war, NK people will get tired of it and kill him themselves. Which will open up to a democracy which will then lead to tearing down the dmz wall.

The likelihood of Hotwheels getting bombed tonight far outstrips North Korea's chances of ever doing so to the US.

Am I the only one who some way empathizes with Korea. The US is aggressively pushing economic sanctions against them (as well as numerous other countries). Essentially America is playing the bully and expects no one to get upset.

In my book that's a declaration of war. Not everyone will take it as well as Cuba/Iran.

I wish the US and SK would do a joint swift surgical action to wipe out the leaders of NK and move towards the reunification of the two Koreas.

But quite frankly that seems overly "nice".

"Christian love bears evil, but it does not tolerate it. It does penance for the sins of others, but it is not broadminded about sin. Real love involves real hatred: whoever has lost the power of moral indignation and the urge to drive the sellers from temples has also lost a living, fervent love of Truth."

What was the reason? Developing nuclear bombs? they're not signatories of the NPT so they have every right to develop all nuclear technology. Alternatively they could get 'Iranned'; this is where you get sanctions put on you or allegedly developing nuclear weapons when there is no proof you are and really no way to prove you're not.

Wait until they hold another one of their political & military rallies in Pyongyang and hit them hard there. All the top military and government figures would be there in one small place. That way you take out as many of the brass as possible in an attack. They would collapse fast with no command structure or leadership, and they would never expect the attack there. They hold them all the time now to drum up support, they have tens of thousands of military there and politicians that would be wiped out in an instant. Then Korea could be reunited and the poor starving citizens could be fed.

Either that, or bribe the border guards and military with food if they defect and surrender.

One thing that doubts the credibility of their threats though is why on Earth would you tell the enemy how and where you were going to attack them?

There's no way SK wants re-unification right now. The cost of lifting all those people out of poverty would basically bankrupt the country, and the current generation of Koreans are materialistic as shit. As far as I'm concerned, they give even the worst Americans a run for their money in this regard.

If they wanted to make NK collapse, it would probably be done through negotiation with China. Chinese diplomats said recently that they wouldn't be opposed to a re-unified Korea, and all of NK's oil comes in through China. If China was to shut of the tap so to speak, NK would collapse pretty damn quick.

Yes the NK gov't is "crazy" but they are rational actors and the chances they attack SK or the USA are very very slim. The top brass wants to stay in power and continue their luxurious lifestyle which would certainly not continue if they were to attack another country.

They rattle their saber to #1 control and scare their population and #2 Get foreign aid out of countries like the US. Haha what a joke. They launch missles, test nuclear weapons and make threats and as a condition to temporarily tamper down their activities the US sends them food aid. It's like a child who misbehaves and an adult telling them they will give them candy if they be good for a while.

"As part of the agreement, the United States said it would send 240,000 metric tons (about 265,000 tons) of food, though it limited the aid to nutritional supplements, rather than the rice and grains that, as two administration officials said, has in previous instances been diverted by the government or the military, or even sold abroad."

The reaction is very chill everywhere it seems. There is almost an element of pity in the reaction!

NK wouldn't send off a nuke, because, duh, they would get nuked back.

Just reading our favorite paper today on a chilled Friday morning, an article about North Korea...and read the following about Kim-Jong Un:

Quote:Quote:

His father Kim Jong-il was an Elvis lookalike with a gelled quiff and platform shoes (he stood 5ft 3in in his socks). He had 17 luxury palaces, had live lobsters flown to a custom-made train in which he used to move around the country to avoid being attacked, and a prodigious sexual appetite.

Kim Jong-il was attended by a retinue of 2,000 young women known as the Pleasure Brigade, who had been rounded up at the age of 15 to serve his sexual whims. All had to be virgins and none could be more than 5ft 2in.

That is certainly some harem, it appears even dictators have their redeeming qualities. Fame game? Haha
