Suggestions for bday gift for dad?

My dad's birthday is coming up and I'm thinking about something unique and masculine I can get him.

-He is in his mid-60's

-He enjoys scotch and cigars

-He likes naval history, but I've gotten him books and things like that in the past.

Or, what are some cool gifts you have given your dad in the past for his birthday?

I saw this somewhere and saved it as a "maybe": http://www.amazon.com/Plum-Island-Soap-C...A53VREIR4I

I like unusual toys, optical illusions, weird puzzles, scientific instruments and so on. As such I always use the following site for interesting gifts:

http://www.grand-illusions.com/acatalog/Toy-Shop.html

It is a UK site. So - if you find a gift you like, I am sure you will be able to find somewhere in the US which stocks it as well (Ebay and Amazon are good places to check).

Dude that site looks awesome! I am into that kind of stuff too...Unfortunately my dad is not. Something from there would likely remain unopened, sadly.

I bookmarked it anyway, thanks for that.

How about a gift certificate to one of those old school barber shops? Some also have cigars and scotch.

Dude...Yes! Thank you for that, that's a great suggestion. I think he'd like that a lot.

That's a good web site by the way.

For Father's Day and his birthday I usually get my dad a bottle of Glenmorangie Lasanta or Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban single-malt scotch. About $50 per bottle.

I also usually give him something else, depending on what I come up with. My dad drinks coffee all-day, every day, so a couple of years ago I got him a Starbucks Cincinnati-theme coffee mug:

He loved it and drank out of it every day for almost three years. He finally put it aside a month or two ago 'cause he didn't want it to get broken.

Another recent innovation are all the Heat Sensitive Coffe Mugs hitting the market. There are tons of interesting designs. And some can be personalised with a photograph and a personalised message.

It seems like a useful suggestion that would make good gifts for most people.

And here is a Self-Stirring Mug:

These Splat Balls would be great gifts for kids:

And for the smarter teens. I always thought this would make a fun present:

I am a magician. So I always seem to come across interesting curiosities.

For example. This would be the perfect gift (if a little pricey) for your romantic other (or you could get one with a picture of your parents, and then give it to your Mum as a present):

That is all that comes to mind now. Any other good stuff will pop up when you search through sites like the following:

If he likes real things nautical (even if he has never had a boat) that often times means an interest in weather, in which case one of those outdoor weather sensors with indoor readout with history functions and such.

The naval history thing is interesting.

One of the books on my 'to read' pile is the following. A History of the World in Twelve Maps by Jerry Brotton. It seems like something your Dad might like as well:

Another recommendation. These puzzles are quite cheap, very clever and look very nice.
