What are some of your favorite books about war?

I love playing civilization, the only way to actually be super successful in that game is to run an military industrial complex, growth can't be sustained without military campaigns.

But man Ghandi, that fucker with his nukes.

Max Hastings and Antony Beevor are both good. I've enjoyed everything I have read of theirs concerning WWII.

Fuck Ghandi. Be a mushroom cloud laying motherfucker on his ass!

I played a lot of Age of Empires II. Archer stomping and goth pikeman rushing, that shit was fun.

Random thoughts pertaining to the subject of this thread.

- The book House to House by David Bellavia is great. I actually know one of his distant relatives, it was the person that recommended this book to me. Page turner mostly focused on the battle of Fallujah.

- All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Remarque is probably my favorite novel. Great fictionalized account of World War I through the eyes of a German soldier. Remarque, of course, was a WW1 veteran. If you didn't read this book in high school, now is the time to pick up a copy.

- Another favorite war book of mine is Marine Sniper by Charles Henderson, about the U.S. Marines top sniper during Vietnam, Carlos Norman Hathcock II. Dude had 93 confirmed kills, and possibly 100 more unconfirmed, before he was wounded severely in an mine attack on the truck in which he was riding.

This is 'Katyusha' (little Ekaterina or little Catherine) the second Russian National Anthem. It's a song from WWII and it's about poor Katyusha who tells her boyfriend that she will wait for him to come back home from War.

I wonder if there is any footage of the Israelis kicking ass during the Six Day War. Battle of the Golan Heights, 115 Israelis dead vs. 2,500 Syrians if I remember correctly.

civilization man here, used to do a world map and conquer everyone, nukes and all. Age of Empires my old man liked, though he used to cheat and get loads of those lamborghinis with rocket launchers

I haven't heard that tune in almost 10 years! We had a guy in basic training from the FSU who had spent his teenage years in one of those Communist/Hitler Youth style organizations, marching and singing patriotic songs which he sang for us. He said the song has a double meaning, Katyushas was the name for truck mounted rocket artillery put to effective use on the eastern front.
