Hard time sleeping in

I live in NYC and when I stay until closing I won't get home until 4:30 AM. Then by 9AM I wake up and I can't sleep any longer. (I normally wake up at 8AM on weekdays). I have the inability to sleep late when I stay out late. Then I am exhausted and useless the whole next day.

Do you guys have any ideas how to sleep late when you stay out late the night before?

I have the opposite problem...waking up by 2:00 is a struggle after a long night out.

If I get incredibly drunk - I find my body automatically wakes up after 4 hours of sleep.

Which is really annoying.

Luckily it has being a few months since I have being drunk - I really want to try and give that up.

A lot of it is due to your sleeping habits. You've got a circadian rhythm where your body is used to going to bed at a certain time and waking up at a certain time. When you change that everything gets thrown out of whack, like jet lag or moving to a different time zone. Adding alcohol on top of that also messes up your sleep.

It's really a no win situation without some type of drugs or sleep aid. Try one of those Bob Marley mellow drinks, both times I had it they didn't really put me to sleep but once I went to bed I slept a lot longer than usual.

Saw something on TV the other night about how getting really drunk before you go to sleep plays total havoc with your sleeping pattern and forces you to wake up early...was quite interesting.

Fortunately sleep is one of the easiest things to fix, with a lot of effective options to choose form.
Your best is taking melatonin before bed, better if time released. You may or may not sleep longer, but the sleep will feel more restful because melatonin increases REM/total sleep ratio, which makes your night more restful.
Also, watch out alcohol, as it kills deep sleep. If you go to bed at 4:30 you want to have your last shot not after 2:30. Or you can take california poppy extract (15 drops), which increases deep sleep.

When I wake up in the middle of the night or early morning and can't force myself to sleep, I found relaxing music/hypnotic inductions to be very effective.
If I lie down and listen to this music I always fall asleep: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1g6UbwjJzc
If you have an Apple device also check Digipill, a very good one: http://digipill.com

Sleep in general is something I've never been consistent about. Over the past few years though it's gotten pretty out of control. I'll literally sleep 16 hours one night then sleep 2 hours a night for 3 or 4 nights straight. It has to be terrible for me.

If you can never sleep its always anxiety, if you cant sleep on weekends its probably cause you used to getting up early, or partially anxiety again...

On a proper night you shouldn't be sleeping at all, but fucking the rest away. Get more pussy and your problem is solved.

Having a sound play whilst you're sleeping is really effective but it must be a constant sound. If you've got a chill out music album on whilst you're sleeping then the difference in song beats will stir you in your sleep or as you're falling asleep.

I've struggled with insomnia for years and currently work a 4pm-2am shift where my mate who lives with me wakes up at 8am and bangs around before he goes to work. I've found that listening to a constant sound helps me focus more on that than if my mate is making loads of noise in the kitchen.

Something I found interesting is that when I hear the shower going (it's right next to my room) then I get disturbed but if he's using a hair dryer then it doesn't stir me a bit.

Download some nature sounds. I've got rainfall in the rainforest which lasts about 50 minutes which I stick on repeat and I've also got one of the same length of a stream flowing over small rocks, as well as waves on the shore. It's really made a difference.

Even if you don't have a noise problem like I do, the sounds will help you visualise in your head and stop your mind dancing around all over the place.

My dad has the same problem. He told me that it happens when you get older.

I have the same problem if I drink a lot the night before, I was told it's because you are dehydrated. So I drink a bottle of water before I pass out and I don't have this problem.

I can't recommend this highly enough. I do the same thing. I also have rain, waves, and stream soundtracks, about an hour each, which I put on repeat and keep on a low volume throughout the night.

Make sure you listen to the full thing though BEFORE you try to sleep with it playing... I had one ocean track that started out quite nicely but somewhere in the middle had a flock of squawking seagulls. I woke up in a rather pissy mood after a short while.

Also, try melatonin + kava kava + valerian root. And if you smoke green, do that too.

I have the same problem (falling asleep easily but waking up early). I've found over-the-counter sleep aids do the trick. The standard dose is generally enough for me to get an extra 2-3 hours of sleep.
