Thinking about becoming a Bartender.

I can understand why you would think about bartending. I think you're an older guy like me so based on that I wouldn't do it but use that time to concentrate on making a independent side business. Something that you can scale bigger to replace your full time job.

You can travel and bartend as well. My cousin did that in a couple of states. It gets old fast though.

Hey rudebwoy, if you start tending bar, don't throw my keys away. [Image: blush.gif] And don't cockblock me if I'm using you to DHV to bang waitresses. You'll be tipped well.

Ali you are jokes man! When you coming to Toronto?

Kosko - love the comment about the Berlin wall. This city feels like communism sometimes.

Guys this is not going to be my career, this is a side gig at best. I am thinking if I go back to Euroland this might be a good gig for on the side.
I thought about bouncing as well, but don't fancy fighting bums and standing in the frigging cold.

I'll come to Toronto when they change the laws. If you start working bars, network hard with staff from other places. Offer to buy them a round if they come to your place. Bar staff social circles are one of the best to be in. They pussy will flow.

What laws you on about! Come in the summer time and show dem gals some southern charm.
At my age I think I can only handle a pub or a hotel bar, these nightclubs might be a bit much for me.

Can't cross the border with a DUI. Laws are supposed to be changing though. Oh yeah, that waitress just sent me a nudie pic. WTF?

How hard is it to get a job as a bartender? It's something I've always wanted to try.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

You'll start out as barback first. Barback keeps the bartender supplied with clean glasses, stocked mixers, full bottles of booze. They're basically the bartenders bitch, but they get a cut of the tips and it can be a fun job if it's at the right place.

While you're barback, take a bartending course, read as much as you can, and watch the bartender and learn. Every once in a while, ask if you can step in and try making a few drinks.

Within a couple months you could be running the rail. There are many tiers of bars. College bars, dive bars, club bars, mixology bars. If you're serious, I'd recommend going somewhere super busy and getting your ass kicked and learning how to handle volume. Once you get some chops then you can branch out into whatever you want.

Oh yeah, and it doesn't matter how low on the totem pole you are, if your female coworkers are down to fuck coworkers, they'll fuck anyone.

"...so I gave her an STD, and she STILL wanted to bang me."

I was a bartender for many years. I worked at some of the highest income bars in Canada for chain restaurants, and a couple of clubs. If its a restaurant you must have food knowledge first. That means usually starting out as a server, showing you have what it takes to sell. Then you will likely transition to barback so that you can be familiar with the bar setup as each and every bar is different, make drinks differently, and follow different protocol. Once you prove your worth you need to start learning the drinks they make at that specific bar. Bars try to invent their own drinks in order to create customer loyalty. What I mean by this is if you go to a bar and they have a drink called the "freeze pop snowman," you likely can't go anywhere else to order that drink because it was that bars creation. So when that girl wants a "freeze pop snowman," she must return to the same bar to order it (customer loyalty). For clubs, these jobs are highly coveted and near impossible to get into (read:nepotism is the way of life). After my restaurant bar experience I got a bar back position at an extremely busy night club, and worked my way up when a bartender didn't show up for a shift and I doubled his sales I had his job. These jobs are coveted because for a 4 hour shift I would make about $800. I would work 12 hours over a Friday, Saturday, Sunday and pocket close to $2200 (and I only claimed about 10% OF MY TIPS). I had 5 friends take bartending courses and none of them got a bartending job. So in short, skip the course and do it the old fashioned way!!!

Was a bartender at a casino for a while, its good in some ways. You get to know the regulars well who are usually interesting. Always talking and socialising with people, develops your charisma and social skills, get to make people laugh and be cheeky with it. In terms of gaming girls, I wouldn't say its that great, but I am from the U.K here. You will get some numbers and they will flirt with you but with your manager watching theres not a lot you can do apart from getting their details.

Bartender courses will do nothing but enrich the school teaching you how to be a bartender. They do nothing to get you a job and really do not offer meaningful skills anyway. You don't need to memorize a list of recipes since most people tell you what they want and the basic drinks are not difficult to remember. Martini, daiquiri, bloody Mary, etc. That and the operation of a bar day to day isn't something they can really teach - you need to be in the business.

If you really want to be a bartender there are two ways to do this:

1) know someone who owns a bar and wants to hire/train you. You'll have to settle for slow hours at first but you can eventually get weekend nights and earn decent coin.

2) grow 2 tits and a pussy, be attractive to guys and just start applying for bartender jobs everywhere. You will eventually get hired and see weekend nights sooner. This is the privilege of which SJW will not speak.

Good luck.

What are your guys experience with working as a bartender at restaurants like? I imagine the bars with solid night life near where I live are likely hard to get in as a bartender and worse case I can work at Chilis or a wine bar or something.Does something like that still get the pussy wet or would I be spinning my wheels?

Growth Over Everything Else.

I took a bartending course.

And while it was worthless with regard to getting a job...

in NYC there were a lot of girls in the class.

Just sayin.

You'll make a couple friends.

Plus youll practice pouring and maybe guest bartend with some venues that partner up with the school.

Worth the coins if you ask me

The good thing about working at a restaurant is...

You're gonna be around girls..

Girls in college..

Girls out of college..

Girls working to supplement their income..

While you might not want to take the proverbial "s*** where you eat"

You can still hang out with your co-workers after your shift,

have a drink with em..

and have them introduce you to their friends..

Bartenders in a town or neighborhood often all know each other and patronize each others bars

Working in a restaurant is fun, social job. It's often a pleasure..

and restaurant workers have a unique level of camaraderie that you can leverage for your own gain...

also.

With regard to getting customers, more commonly restaurant workers hook up with one another because they're around each other so much..

But, again, if you don't want to do that, you can leverage your newfound social circle after your shift..

Are you all kidding?

Bartenders are like DJs. You'll be drowning in sloot ass if you're tending at any well reputed club in town.
