Getting bored when rolling solo

Lately I've been going out a bit earlier before the crowds start to hit, and also trying not to drink as much as I did a couple of years ago. Going out earlier and drinking less means more productivity the next day.
The first thing I notice is when you're 90% sober and just sitting around in a bar or lounge it gets boring really fucking fast. I used to pregame it hardcore before going out solo, but I don't wanna destroy my liver. How do you guys spend the time effectively without just bouncing, because lately I end up just getting pissed and leaving with nothing to show for my (brief) efforts.

As has been said, you're not doing it right if it doesn't feel like work. However you should time it so you're not having much down time. Go just before the crowd or when they're already there.

@ Vitriol
I roll dolo early so i can get in without the hassle from the door men.
I practice my openers on the female staff i chat up the bouncers inside the club. I think of it like a warm up. Before you go lift, yo have to do your warm-up/mobility shit or you're gonna pay for it the next day. Think of gaming the same way. As soon as you leave your house "it's on". I chat up people on the train/bus when I'm heading to the venue.
So by the time the place starts to fill up you're sufficiently warmed up.

go ~30 minutes before a place will get packed. that way you have enough warm up time and be ready when prime time hits. like kinjutsu said, warm up on bouncers, bartenders, female staff, etc. and even before you get there. fake asking for directions in the street.

If going out is boring you're not doing it right. Try talking to people.

Do you have patience in general? If you have to wait 1 hour to get into some doc's office or something, do you feel anxious about it?
I became like a Buddha lately. If I gotta wait, I'll just sit and wait, pondering about the meaning of life. And before you know it, the pussy storms in!
Seriously dude, just keep totally calm, sip on your beer slowly, nobody gives a shit about you being alone. You come in alone, and go out not alone. This a noble quest you're on to.

If you've been doing it for awhile I don't know if pre drinking is critical. When I don't really feel like going out I'll give myself a reward when i get there which is that tasty first drink and maybe cigarette if I have any. If I see a girl at the bar I'll open her even if she's a 4 just to warm up. Same thing goes with the smoke, I'll open some girls with something basic and if there's some non traction I'll ask them for the lighter as a stacked opener, sort of as if I didn't intend to open but just get a lighter. I'll then try a third opener or question.
If you get bored experiment, go to a new bar on the other side of the city, drive there if you have to so you'll moderate your alcohol. Talk to dudes if you struck out with the girls you approached. I usually arrive to a bar when I know there's a crowd so I won't be doing any waiting, 20 mins without an approach will give you meek game.
I'm not too bored with going out alone but If I lived in a heavily cosmopolitan area I'd mix it up with diners, cafe's there's also street game at night if it's the right area. The crowds that congregate outside indie art galleries are also easy for solo approaches.

When you go out solo, talk to people. Anybody and everybody.
Get to know someone and his or her story. Get with that person and make up stories for people you see on the street.
Or try random experiments for shits and giggles.
For example - walk down a busy street and tell every girl you pass by, "I know about the affair", with a straight face.
Hilarity ensures.

Quiet bars are not so good to roll solo.
Go to clubs, you won't be bored there.

I like semi-busy restaurant lounges, especially locations where the bar offers a good view of the dining area. Go sit at the bar. If there's no one there to talk to make up stories for all the people you see eating dinner. Try to figure out what their emotional state is, why they're in that state, what brought them out to dinner with whomever they're dining with, etc. It'll prime you to be in tune with girls emotions once you start talking to them.
