Even the girls who don't ask you for money are still hookers, they're just hoping for a long term deal rather than short term cash.

A lot of negative views here, i love Cambodia. I,ve been there 2 months. I got laid like a rock star there. For free of course.

By saying "for free" you mean that you made it clear in advance that you will not pay them anything, or you just did not give them any money (even if they asked) after sex?

Always made it clear in advance every time and refused to even leave the bar with them unless its clear they accept and understand.

Not doing so is a road to ruin and police hassle in lawless Cambodia.

You pretty much have to adopt the assumption of 'she is a hooker until she proves otherwise' in Cambodia and the only way to know for sure is AFTER she has gone home without asking for money AFTER you banged her.

There are plenty that will lie and say its ok and still ask for money.

yep, you have to be tricky sometimes but except for the girls fist fighting over me( twice ) , i didnt have any trouble.

ZDon't want to brag but thats what happened.

I guess they still hoped that you'd wine and dine them, or at least give them some "taxi money" as a lot of other Westerners do (they're typically fine to pay for other things - sometime even much more money - as long as it is not labeled "paying for sex").

Saying so, some of those girls would fuck just to sleep in an air conditioned room and a chance for a free breakfast. I've seen it too, it is just not my comfort zone. Those girls are poor and have to work hard, so by paying them you're basically giving money to charitable cause. But this is my personal opinion, yours is different and I respect that.

Quote:Quote:

This is kind of contradiction. In the country which is lawless it doesn't really matter what you do, if the police wants to make a case against you, they would. They usually employ some people after spending some time with you'd gladly admit in an open court that you were the mastermind of 9/11, participated in Holocaust and is a long-standing member of Al Qaeda.

I'd say if she hangs out in bars with foreigners, she is a hooker.

Definitely. Good Cambodian girls aren't allowed / don't go out to bars, especially one full of foreign sex tourist and seedy backpackers.

Tully Mars you HAVE to go to Sihanoukville, it's a great little beach town, and it's fun too. Don't miss the Angkor Temples either, going to Cambodia and not seeing these wonders would be a serious mistake.

Gringo-
Yeah I am not a huge temple fan, but your comments have been echoed many times to me. I will fly into PP (not a fan of 15 hr bus rides) stay a few days, then bus up to Siem Reap for 1 day/2 nights to see Angkor....was advised to hire a moto guide that knows all the temples so that he can zip me around in the blazing heat....from there back to PP for a night or two....then bus down to Sihanoukville for 3-4 days.....looking forward to the adventure....

I'm hardly a temple fanatic either but they are absolutely breathtaking and well worth a look. You will be impressed. Yeah you can get a moto driver for the day for really cheap, a few years back I think I paid $5 for a guide for the whole day, could go wherever I wanted and he would wait for me then take me to the next place.

Some seriously negative haters on Cambodia... take the silver spoon out...

Here's my two cents: The girls aren't special so expect to go for the sights and let your sack rejuvenate for the 5-days you'll need to kick it in Cambodia; then return to Thailand and go balls-out.

But you shouldn't miss the Killing Fields, S-21 Prison, and the firing range in Phonm Penh.--you can fire a frigg'n grenade launcher at a cow for $500usd; $250 for the cow inclusive in the price. Eat and hang out either by the riverside or in the large expat area just north of the Naga World Casino (around crossroads of 310 and 51) and try to tell me you were served a meal less than superb. Eat at 'Le Wok', 'Pacharan', 'Cafe Fresco', 'Aussie XL', 'Freebird', or any place the patrons of these places tell you go and try to tell me you've seen a rat, cockroach, shit, or had a bad feed; you'd be lying.--and also try to spend more than $100 in a night on food and drinks, it will be difficult. Stay at NagaWorld; it's decent but not the Ritz.

Even if your not a Temple roamer or sights slut, do yourself a favor and see the Temples.--I like the Bayon. I usually don't get fired up about these things but this shit was pretty inspiring. Eat at 'The Nest' and get a steak or surf and Turf; if you're not happy with the meal...bury your head in the sand.

All up you can see most of the sites and in 4-5 days if you fly to Siem Reap from Phonm Penh (like I did) instead of taking some insane 15 hr broke-ass bus.

Now, the place must have cleaned up quickly or these other guys were around when the Khmer Rouge were still slaughtering their people (only 30 years ago) because looking at these pics you'll see the place isn't as much of a cockroach infested shit-hole that they're making it out to be. If you're still not convinced, harden up. Think about like getting fresh tracks in a off-piste shoot down a slope....though most feel comfortable sticking to the groomers like the majority of the skiers.

Cheers--

I'm with Gameabroad, if Cambodia is too real for you then you need to man up. It's not that much of a shit hole and when you are there as a tourist you can easily stay in fancy hotels, eat & drink in nice restaurants & bars, travel in relative comfort etc. The rough edge of things is part of the fun, would be no point in travelling if everywhere was safe and sanatised like at home. It's an exciting place.

I'm not a massive fan of either places. I'd go back to PP sooner than I'd go to Saigon though because I really dislike that place. Saigon is more developed but also more chaotic, much more traffic, people, pollution etc.

I'm sorry to say that the area where i stayed in PP is gone. The government/investors sold the whole area for new development. It used to be great at Lakeside but most of it is gone know.

A good bar used to be Heart of Darkness but now it overpacked with backpackers. Still would give it a go, probably there will be free lancers around. I didnt pay for them, depends on your game and trickyness
Sharkeys is another bar for freelancers.

I can't recommend to go to girlie bars you WILL have to pay there. Daygame might be your best option.
In sihanoukville any bar on the beach will do. Accomedation is dirt cheap in Cambodia, so you'll find something of your liking soon.

For more info check out the khmer440.com

They hate my guts on there after i posted pics of Cambodian girls on my website. I removed the picture gallery after receiving lots of (death) threats. I like to visit Cambodia some more.

Have fun but be careful !

Yeah, Forgot to mention that. Get a giant plate of fish at the beach for only 3 or 4 dollars. party till dawn and definitely visit Angkor wat. They should make visiting Angkor wat mandatory for every foreigner setting foot over the border.

I don't agree on your point of view regarding the girls, there are stunners around. But i do agree on your view of a 5 day visit. Go sightseeing !!

You can do Angkor wat in 2 days. if your the sportive type you can rent a bicycle for 2 dollars a day and see it super cheap, dont really need a guide if you have a decent map. I went with a tuktuk on the first day, cost me and my travel buddy 7 dollar each for one day.
One day means from 8 in the morning til 5 but be careful. My driver started with "sick mom in hospital stories" around 2 o'clock. Don't fall for this BS. The first day you will visit maybe 4 or 5 temples and the driver only brings you there ( 8km) and drives you maximum 2 km on the temple complex. Its easy money for them. Because you're walking the temples, the drivers play cards and hang around all day.
The second day i went by bycycle but this is quite hardcore. About 40 km in the boiling hot sun.

If you get up early you can do PP sight seeing in one day. The killing fields and the prison doesnt take that long to see. Go see Wat Phnom and some local markets for cultural experiences. You can go partying at night.
I paid a motodriver 8 dollar to bring me to killing fields and the prison and back. Take a moto, tuktuks are slow and noisy.

I stayed in the cheapest lakeside area ( 3 dollars for a room with bathroom) and didn't see roaches or rats every day. Either man up or stay in a 20 dollar a night place.

Cambodia is great , enjoy it !!

Thanks again for the input. I do my best to stay out of the judgemental arena when it comes to travel and places, to each his own but i will say the worst thing one can do while traveling is have an expectation on a place....accept it for what it is and enjoy the differences.

Cambodian food IS good, I really enjoyed it. It's hardly on the same level as Thai, which is one of the worlds best but it's still good. PP isn't the nicest capital city in the world but it's not the worst either, it's a 3rd world country what can you expect really?

Let me put it this way. If you're NaugtyNomad and just got back from Haiti, visit Cambodia. If you're Lumiere and ticking of your 87th country, visit Cambodia. If you're a gap year student traveling around South East Asia, Cambodia would be hard to miss. If you're writing a thesis on irrigation and the fall of Angkor, visit Cambodia. If you're German and wear sandals with socks, and need to renew your Thai visa, visit Cambodia.

If you have 2-3 weeks off per year and want to go to Asia, screw Cambodia. I'll be even brave to say screw Thailand! Just head to Indonesia, it has everything you need. One of the best nightlifes in the world. And to those that need to man up, you can climb a live volcano, hang with orangutans, spearfish dolphins, eat pork at a mosque....

You must be rich if you can silver spoon around in almost ANY county. Have fun silver spooning around the countries like Australia, New Zealand,USA,Canada, most western european countries or even Brazil.
Sure if you have over a hundred dollars a day to spent i could do the same.

Don't know why have to be so negative about Cambodia. If poor countries are not your thing, sit your ass on a all-inclusive resort in the Domanican republic or Hawai and don't hate on Asia.

For me a dump would be India, that's the most disgusting country i've been to. And i traveled in about 45 or 46 countries, including every country in Asia except North Korea, and Papau New Guinea.

Your reading comprehension is lacking. Hate on Asia? Silver spoon? WTF are you talking about? That's the thing I don't want to silver spoon, but to have good food in Cambodia you have to. Eating at restaurants catering to foreigners is not an indication of "Cambodian food is delicious." Unless of course you like buffalo meat, fried spiders, ants, and other mystery meat. But than I'm not staying at 3 dollars per night rooms and travel 40 clicks on bicycles, so maybe I am silver spooning. Like I said, go there as a secondary destination, there is nothing there to make Cambodia your final destination.

To me its the overall package. Bangkok is great and for most it's probably better than Jakarta, but to me Jakarta rocks. Lots of clubs are open late (4-5am), one is even open 24 hours through the weekend (Stadium) where you can also buy E tabs from a waiter. If you're caught with drugs or other illegals, cops are bribeble for much less than Thailand. You can smoke almost anywhere. Middle and upper class women are foreigner friendly with no stigma attached. I like the look of Javanese women, which can often have a bit of latina look. Cops are not as predatory like in Thailand.

The major negative for me would be traffic. It's much easier to bar hop in Bangkok due to it's train system and localized bars/clubs areas. In Jakarta everything seems to be scattered all over, with crappy public transport. Taxis are very cheap but be prepared to loose a lot of time sitting in traffic.

Haha, agreed to that. Jakarta is great, although buying tabs in Stadium is expensive. i payed 20 dollars for one and the other one was gifted by this Indonesian E-cup girl i was dating back than.
