interesting... Street dog are very common in many countries. I've never seen them attack. Is that common? How did it happen?

It was in the morning, I was late to being somewhere so I started jogging along since I was in a hurry. I know better than to run past dogs because they chase anything they see running, but this dog was hanging out behind a wall and I didn't see him. Then as soon as I ran past him he starts barking and runs after me and gnawed at my arm. My shirt sleeve was shredded and his teeth cut my arm.

Aside from not making yourself a target around potential muggers, learn Krav Maga and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I'm level two (Green like Speakeasy) and blue going on purple in BJJ. Those to should cover you for fighting skills but DON'T go to the ground if you're fighting multiple attackers unless all but one are incapacitated. In addition, carrying a folding knife, pepper spray: http://www.coldsteel.com/pepper-spray.html, or a taser with you is a good idea as a last resort if things get really ugly and you've already tried getting police and running and your life is in imminent danger. Obviously I'd prefer a gun but that depends on where you are and what the laws are like. Steel toed boots are a smart idea as are military glasses to protect your eyes http://www.revisioneyewear.com/store/sawfly.html. Also, keep one of those pouches that hook on the inside of your pants to keep valuables.

Everyone knows the whole dont flash jewelery or money, keep your main stash in one pocket and your spending money in the other, but I would like to add a few things that may or may not be common sense. I've been to 34 countries or so without incident.

#1 when walking around at night, make an effort to watch your surroundings, not just for yourself but people are less likely to rob someone who is paying attention. I have been on roads where a few minutes later someone was robbed.

There is a saying, "wolves know other wolves" MAKE EYE contact with that guy skulking in the dark, not too long to challenge, but just long enough to let him know you see him and you arent scared. I even give the mutual respect head nod quite often. Its signifies you are an equal. NEVER break eye contact by looking down, its a sign of submission.

Dont fight if you dont have to, me? Ima beat some dudes ass if I need to but I have been in martial arts for 18 years and trained by uncle sam. Uncle sam was nice enough to permanently hire one of Royce Gracies cousins to train our office. I will still walk away from a fight 95% of the time, but not if some ass has a gun or knife and threatens my life.(dont try to disarm someone unless you have practiced hundreds of times and KNOW without a doubt you can do it) and almost never a knife, you will almost always get cut, despite what you see in movies.

#2 I always wear a belt with a nice heavy belt buckle shaped like a chevy symbol. If someone has a knife, I can pull off my belt in an instant and slash open their face from about 5 feet away with my buckle holding the end of my belt.

#3 I almost always wear cowboy boots. They make me over 6ft tall, make my posture better, AND you can kick/stomp the shit out of someone, alternately you can hook your fingers through the hoops at the top of your boot and swing it like a hammer and beat the piss outa someone. Kick a knife out of someones hand with out them slicing your leg open.

If you have to attack someone, remember: Speed, surprise, and violence of action. Action is always faster then reaction

Often I will buy a small pocket knife where ever I am (check the laws first) Barring that, any pen makes a great weapon, I prefer solid steel ones like a zebra or the like. Narrow tip, you can stab just about anywhere and cause damage. Eyes preferably, throat, chest, groin.

It takes care to walk around like you can take care of yourself and are not scared but DONT walk around like a badass. It will make other bad asses want to test you. There is always someone tougher.

I never wear jewelery besides a unique necklace. I dont carry my passport, I carry my DL and a color photo copy of my passport. Rarely do I carry my CC unless I think I will need it, I just take enough cash.

Just a few thoughts as I am not sleepy yet.

All are good, but #2 is actually the best one. It noyt only surprsies anyone when you cause damage, but nobody ever suspects it a weapon, hell, you can take it off in front of TSA, and they see it as a belt buckle, not a weapon.

I have done that myself, and it saved my ass. I usually wear big, heavy belt buckles, and trust me, you do not want to get hit with a belt buckle coming at you at 70mph on a swing to your head or hands. It hurts like a bitch!!

Be careful with that. In Russia you can get up to two years in prison just for carrying those throw away knives.

India has lots of street dogs. A girl I know was bit by one. They sometimes roam in packs at night. If I'm walking in an area with a lot of dogs I carry a rock. Several times now, I've seen people here throw rocks at street dogs. The dogs go running. One time I saw a kid make a motion like he was picking up an imaginary rock and the dog went running. Most of these dogs are afraid of people. People here are cruel to them. One time I tossed a piece of chicken at a street dog and it ran away.

Mixx, should they balance that look out with a pair of high tops and some nascar logos?

Jokes aside, the belt is the safest thing you can do. I did a bunch of training in the Navy and learned how to use various uniform belts to defend myself. There's psychology behind this, but you even the field when you counter a weapon with a weapon. Plus grabbing a knife when a belt is wrapped around your hand is just a lot safer.

Here's the thing. Now that it's you with a belt versus some guy with a knife for example, your chances of being injured just went way up. There are now two weapons present.

My point is, unless you are 100% confident you can use whatever weapon you have effectively, don't even carry anything. Just let the belt keep your pants up. When some cracker just wants your cash, the entire dynamic of the situation can turn really dirty when you pull a knife and he gets that from you too.

Be careful out there.

Aloha!

AHAHAHAHHAHA! i beat jar heads asses like you at least once a week. Stupid marines or army dogs who think since they had some sloppy bjj taught to them by some royce gracie affiliate that they are some badass. We literally choke these motherfuckers unconscious and throw them in front of the garbage bin in front of my garbage bin. All that said, a week or two of gracie combatives won't really help you in the thick of a bar fight. You need solid boxing, muay thai, grappling, and experience and awareness. The truth is I get sick of guys like you that put in a little time in military combatives and think you are a tough guy. You are a beginner who doesn't know how to wipe his own ass yet in my world.

That said, awareness is key.

Oh yeah BIGBOOTYLUVER? Well I'm the toughest tough guy out there!!!!!! I know a type of fighting learned only in the desolate dungeons hidden in the mountains of what was formerly eastern Drjabistan. I love making fools out of guys who think their kung fu holds testament to my drop triple scissor shmoe kick.
