Looking to buy an IPHONE 4 this week...

After a forum member said I should get a used IPHONE from ATT off ebay and purchase a straight talk SIM card, I figured I'd finally upgrade from my flip phone lifestyle.

Anything I should look for while cruising Ebay before I take the plunge? My main concern is making sure the phone isn't dinged up too bad, that I have good reception (since I heard signals can be weak on the older Iphones), and that I can get at a reasonable price (How much should I pay for it?).

If you guys find any good deals online on a used phone let me know.

Ask your Colleagues who are upgrading there I 4's to 5's, You will have a better chance of getting a phone that is working and you will know the gistory of the phone as well.

Also Try your Local Craigslist. I am thinking not more then $ 150 -200.

Good Luck hunting......

Thanks.

I've checked out craigslist and saw some good deals. Checked out ebay as well. Ebay seems to be cheaper but you are taking the chance of going of of what you see online and what the buyer says, not actual real life visual inspection.

You can get an iPhone 5 w/ StraightTalk at Walmart for $25 a month for the next 26 months or such. No service contract.

Yeah, not really looking to spend 600 bucks on a phone. I think 300 is my tipping point which means an unlocked IPHONE 4 at the most.

That will be unlocked, Not jail Broken phone and regulated by AT& T for the next 2 yrs. IMO what Players want is Freedom from shackles of regulation by cell phone companies.

Much better to Pay $ 200 dollars to get a used I-phone , Unlock & Jail break it and use almost anywhere in the world with a simple change of SIM card.

I kept my 4 so I could unlock & jailbreak it as I didn't want to risk fucking up my new 5. I'm kind of just sitting on it until I have a reason to pay someone to jailbreak it for me. I paid $270 on the Best Buy private auction site (ensures its not stolen and it's working for a small premium over craigslist price) in I think March. Should be significantly cheaper by now.

So I'm running the risk of buying a stolen phone if I buy off of craigslist? I never heard of a Best Buy private auction site.

Am I better off buying from EBAY?

I just ordered the Google Nexus 4 few days ago and it should be coming in mail today. It was sold out since November but now is available in US again (heard that it sold out in other countries already). $299 for 8 GB or $349 for 16 GB version for a brand new phone with performance better than iPhone 5. This is of course an unlocked version so you can use any GSM plan you want in any country. You can also tether or use it as a wifi hotspot for your laptop or tablet without any extra surcharges.

Used Iphone 4 for $200 just doesn't seem like a good deal compared to this, it's quite an old phone and it being used may mean the battery will be at the end of it's lifecycle and due for an expensive replacement. For $100 more you can have a brand new phone with far better features and performance. Also Nexus 4 has HSPA+ which reaches up to 20 MB/s on T-mobile's network, I think Iphone 4 has only 3G.

$299 for a phone that rivals the current top smartphones like iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 is an incredible value.

I'm not decide on a plan yet, but will probably get the $30/month from T-Mobile and supplement minutes with Google Voice. Here's a good comparison of plans:

The Google phone makes sense from an economic standpoint and more bang for the buck sounds great, plus I am buying a new generation phone not an older version of an outdated product.

I think Google may take the edge come signing day. I'm in no rush to buy a smartphone so I can do my research.

Two concerns though, what is the battery life on those things? Also, is there anything I can purchase to protect the screen in case it falls? I heard Otterbox is the way to go for most phones.

Where do you get a nexus 4 for only 299?

And, anyone have a good source for a discounted used Galaxy S3?

iPhone 4S is pretty cheap now. You have to be cafeful though. Developers fine tune the apps to work on the latest hardware, iPhone 5. What happens is eventually with each app update, the app runs a little bit slower on the older phones. I'm starting to see this on my 4s and Facebook. It's been taking way to long to load a pic when you select it and sometimes Facebook just crashes for no reason. They increase the memory usage of the app and make it unusable so you're forced to upgrade.

Parlay I have a 4s here but not unlocked etc and my 4 is. Is it worth it for me to go through all that for the S? I don't see much difference in the 2
