If they get desperate enough to keep that from happening, they would make it illegal for foreigners to own land, much like many of the countries of Southeast Asia have done to prevent that exact thing. However, that would lead to a tremendous amount of capital flight from Greece and sink them further. An action like that would very likely bring NATO troops to Greece to facilitate a government coup, imo, to protect private foreign business and investment interests (banks and funds) in Greece.
Either, way, Greece is screwed. In terms of their political sovereignty or terms of being physically invaded, and, if the survive that, having to pull themselves up after likely getting off of the Euro.

These are just rumours, but nontheless interesting as they reached my ears through two different people who work at the european commission. Anyway, as they say in italian 'si non è vero, é ben trovato':
- The EU has planned to "get rid" of Greece. Main focus now is to avoid the immediate storm/panic and prepare for a more steady way out of this.
- European banks have profitted a lot from loans and dealings with Greece over the years. Sure, to save the French/German banks from their somewhat reckless exposure to Greece will cost a lot of money, but they believe it can be dealt with I was told. Part of the debt will be default, part will be rescheduled ad infinitum. The raw fact if Greece will not be able to pay their debts, at least not within the timespan of the next 2-3 decades.
- It was known to the market and the governments the greeks were 'cooking their books' as some of you guys mention. They even got help from american companies to embellish the figures. It was not a mistery this monster had clay feet. The point is, it was profitable for a long time and it involved both international and local players who teamed up despite it all being ultimately unsustainable. It will not be the last time the financial industry acts irresponsibly since in the end they can limit their losses or even profit from their "conscious mistakes".
Take it for what it is, just rumours from EU people with whom I have talked to.
