How did you meet your most interesting friend?

Hi Gentlemen, I need your help.

My mission for 2013 is to try make 5 new friends from cold approaching. I've made friends from cold approaching before and I have enough friends at the moment but I want to develop a system and a general theory.

At the moment, I'm struggling to identify marks who are interesting and a worthy return on investment in terms of time spent on them. I'm also have my marks flake on me. I think my main problem at the moment is my difficulty in finding a fish bowl and sticking with it. If you guys can share with me your experiences, that will help me refine where I spend my time networking.

Please answer this question:
How did you meet your most interesting friend(s), how would you rate them on a scale from 1 to 10, and where or how did you meet them?

If it's not too much trouble, explain what makes them interesting.

This scale of interestingness can be used as a guide:
1 - A person who is so negative, you feel like committing suicide after spending time with them
2 - A person who is so negative, you feel grumpy and depressed after spending time with them
3 - A person who is so negative, you feel sorry for them
4 - A person who is negative at times, so you try to cheer them up
5 - An average Joe, profoundly dull and blue pill, but good for a game of multiplayer starcraft
6 - Someone who most people would call a 'loser,' but has some endearing qualities/hobbies (eg. smokes weed). The kind of guy you call when you are in the mood for a lazy afternoon of Nintendo games and weed.
7 - Most guys. They are involved with reasonably interesting jobs, and are good for the occasional adventurous outing.
8 - A guy with a really interesting job or personality or approach to life. You actively seek out his company when you crave something out of the ordinary.
9 - An incredibly successful guy, positive spirit, you feel good just being around him, you feel kind of disappointed when he's not available to hang out, somehow the presence of this friend in your life serves as a source of inspiration to yourself
10 - Knows everything, knows everyone, every time you meet you somehow end up on a hair-raising adventure where he has to rescue you out a jam. Everybody wants you to introduce them to him. Everytime you speak of him, you are unable to hide the awe in your voice of knowing this guy. 10 represents fictional characters who are too awesome to be true: James Bond, MacGyver, The Most Interesting Man in the World.

As always, any comments/critique appreciated

How did you meet your most interesting friend?

The most interesting friend I have by far I've known since I was 14. Dude is crazy and eccentric as hell and we've been best of friends through all these years, through hell and back. Hard to make friends like that once you get to a certain age. If I had to give me young self advice, it would've been to make as many friends as a teenager as possible. Childhood/teen friends are the ones most likely to last a lifetime. College and military often is another place. But past that, friends become very transient.

Your cold-approaching for friends strategy is intriguing. I've made some buddies from just chatting up people in places here and there and exchanged info. We might hang out here and there but never does it really transition to a deep friendship. Let us know how your project turns out and any insights you discover.

How does one become a 10 on your scale? Surely it would be easier to make friends that are ranked 10 on your scale if you too are one

Do you really approach other guys in the streets? haha

Anyway, you will never know how interesting someone is just by looking at them. 90% of my interesting friends, i didnt like them when i first met them. One of my good friends stopped judging people by their appearances after meeting me (i walk like a like a thug, dress like a thug but im a very loyal person and i think im a very interesting person - not blowing my own horn here).

After a 10 minutes conversation you can easily tell if the guy is worth your friendship or not worth it.

I usually like talking to everybody i meet but im extremely selective on who is going to be my next friend.

I have met very interesting people during my travels.

I have met 2 great cats in my local bar, we have been good friends for the last 3 years (talking about this, i need to start hitting bars and clubs again)

I have met this young cat last year before i went away who is the cousin of one of my best friends. Dude is super ambitious, travelled all over the world and works hard like a motherfucker. We see each other everyday.

All my other friends i know them for many years.

Befriend (talk to) everybody and when i say everybody i mean everybody. I dont know why but i enjoy talking to homeless people, they tend to inspire me. Some gay people are also very interesting, cut them off if they ever try to bring any gay shit to you.

This forum is another place where you can meet lots of interesting people. Start meeting members that visit your city and you will have a stronger social circle.

I have two friends who rank pretty high, they'd be a ten other than the awe. I've known them both long enough that I'm no longer in awe. I've gone on straight up epic out of a movie type adventures with both of them - accidentally wandered into a warzone with one of them in Kosovo and got shot at (I'm pretty sure they were warning shots). One of them I met in grad school and the other was my neighbor growing up.

im with speakeasy my craziest friend i met at 14. you cant predict when you will run into a true character. some other great friends real crazy characters i knew from highschool and college have changed (ahem got married had kids) and they you grow apart from them. i read somewhere where on average people change friends every 5 years i dont know how true that is but in some cases ive found it to be spot on.

Question:

Can you choose your friends? I've had tons of friends my entire life, I consider myself a "natural" with men, but the guys I've ended getting along with best has always been out of my control.

It just seems like we click or we don't. You can be friendly to a guy but you can't force a friendship.

I guess the best advice I can think of is to be patient when making friends with men, and to talk to lots of men.

Sup Thomas, Approach the RVF Members, You will find what you are looking for. I have met close to 13- 14 members, even the first meet seems like I've know this guy forever. Some of them I consider my brothers, I have made some very good dependable friends here at the Forum.

I think one of the reasons is we all agree on the Major stuff , I would kill to have a forum member in my town.

Basically what you are looking for a friend who is MIMIW ( Most Interesting Man in the world), Look no farther , RVFers are trying to do that every min of their life, Better the Player, more Interesting he is.

Happy Hunting.......

Is there any sort of cold approach method to making guy friends?

I need to build a new social circle, as all my old friends would rather get drunk while playing video games than run game or make money. I'm living back home right now, while I work on my business, and all the dudes in my age group are unemployed and unambitious college dropouts (not the type of people who are going to help build you up in life). One guy even brags about how he hasn't gotten laid in years.

I've been reading this forum to stay on my grind, but I'd like to have actual real life friends who could boost me up and keep me on task.

My best friendships all go back 10+ years to early high school. There's a close-knit group of about six of us that all met around 9th or 10th grade, and still hang out every week.

For the young players on here - if you make good friendships as a teenager, keep those friends around! It's much more difficult to make friendships in your 20's and beyond.

There is a movie about a 30 something year old man finding friends called "I Love You Man" with Paul Rudd. Yeah, don't be him!!

Seriously, it is tough but not impossible. I moved to a new city, I'm mid 30's. I go out a few nights a week, have some activities I enjoy (in a running club, watching live music etc...). I talk to everybody. I know all my neighbors by name, my local bartenders and baristas by name. I have made 4 pretty decent friends in 6 months. 1 from work, 1 through a mutual friend, and 2 others from hanging at the bar watching games.

Make sure your head is right and your life is in order and you will make friends. Stay happy and positive, have a good clean energy about you and it will happen.

Good luck bro!!!

This right here. Going out with the intention to find a best guy friend = "I Love You Man" Paul Rudd weirdness.

I could write pages here but I have one buddy in mind for now we'll call John because it's his real name.

Back in the day when dune buggys roamed the streets of Floridas east coast beaches I was one of the dudes building them and all other types of cheese kit cars.

My one friend had a shop just north of Jupiter in Hobe sound (crazy place) that was VW Porsche specific..

So he calls me one day and asks if I want to hit ALL the pawn shops in West Palm and maybe some titty bars after which was a normal Sat afternoon for us because we liked to buy all the snap-on shit the clowns down there would pawn..

I show up and this dude is there working wearing homemade med evil clothes and hammering out a sword for himself old school blacksmith style over hot coals. My bud says "he's coming too" oh ok this should be fun..

We go down and he is the rudest, crudest most socially unacceptable motherfucker I've ever met in my life.
He will walk up to any fatty and say shit like " you need to lose some pounds my love" his table manners were the worst I ever seen as well. He'd eat soup with his hands. The dude was disgusting but we've been friends ever since..also he's tries to LTR prostitutes because they're people just like me and you. hahaha..

About a week after I moved the D.C. area, I was sitting at the bar of a Colombian restaurant and nightclub eating empanadas and having a few drinks. There were three Colombian girls and some guy to my left. I offered these girls some of the empanadas and we started talking. They were asking me about other nightclubs that I went to. When they asked me about one club in particular, I told them, "That place is horrible. All the girls who go there are grenades. I wouldn't go within a hundred feet of that shithole.". I was addressing all four people in their group when I said that. It turns out that that guy was the owner of the club which I had just trashed. To this day, I still live with that guy and one of the Colombian girls he was with. Swear to god. They are here with me as I am writing this.

I met one of my best friends from rideshare from Craigslist. I was driving a 79 Cougar XR7 which got about 30 feet to the gallon and I wanted to go to LA from Vegas. This guy was only asking for 20 bucks so I thought why not?"

We spoke the whole way for almost 4 hours. Geneticist from Ecuador that grew up in Scotland. Became one of my best friends instantly.

We tell everyone we met at a falconry seminar since we've both done that.

Making good guy friends is kind of organic and usually requires a lot of booze, in my experience.

I made some very cool friends lately.

Cuban dude from Miami who was my roommate. Alpha as hell due to banging a chick inside of rehab. Called me up today to say whats up. He actually figured out my Pokemon slang real easily. He's doing good and staying in school last time he chatted. He was in a hotel with a fucking Pokemon! Hats off to em.

Houston, Prodegy, TK and sourcecode. This is the team here. We're young players on the move.

Another cool bro from rehab. We had rap ciphers daily until the day I was having panic attacks and shit and thought that everyone in rehab were cops. (I don't trust Officer Jenny! Neither should you! This one tweaker obviously was a narc).

My small group of friends from college are cool too. I remember getting cooked and telling them the red pill blue pill story in a fucked up way. Also me dancing randomly, having stoner theories.

I got a lot of cool friends and I'd say on a friend level I'm bout a six with the potential to be a 10. But now it's time to step my damn game up.

Nope.

he mentored me in game/red pill, he is a natural who wanted to learn about why he was good and others werent. He is a 10, everyone who meets him thinks this as well. I need to step up and give more value to him and it's something I've been working on.
