Nice data sheet dude! This almost looks more like Portuguese than Spanish. It's catalan right? Boa sorte meus amigos, in Portuguese compared to Buenas Suertes mis amigos, in Espanol. I would assume you could get by easily with Spanish in Barcelona, true? What about Portuguese?

Thanks a lot man, yeah thats Catalan! Everyone in Barcelona speaks Spanish as well but to kind of preserve their language all the street signs and things like that are in Catalan, I don't think I encountered a local that only spoke Catalan and not Spanish so with Spanish you would have no problems! Portuguese however would be more tricky, as I find that actually Catalan more closely resembles French than Portuguese, phrases like "si us plau" (please) That being said, in my time In Barcelona I went on a date with a Brazilian girl who spoke minimal/no Spanish and I spoke no Portuguese at the time and we were able to communicate, but with a lot of repeating.

As I mentioned in the data sheet, I only know maybe 50-60 phrases in Catalan but they have served me very well. If you start a conversation with a Catalan word such as 'Bon Dia' (good day) or if its a question say 'Perdoni' (excuse me) and when you say goodbye always say 'adeu' and then go into spanish you will have much more rapport with the locals!

Good breakdown bro, +1 from me. You took the time to break shit down including metroline stops. If we had more data sheets like this we would all be better served.

If only we had more intel on Madrid as I am thinking of going there to study Spanish for at least a month but the data is thin unfortunately.

I'm gonna try to put together a similar one for Madrid shortly, although I had and was staying with a girlfriend whenever I visited so the "How to game Madrileñas" game portion might be a little lacking hahaha.

How do you think a Latino will fare with the local chicas there. I will be going to Bracelona on a study abroad program next semester and I heard many Spanish people kind of look down on Latinos. I had this issue in my mind when I signed up for the program and went ahead with it anyway. Im Mexican American.

From your sheet, it seems you went out in Port Olímpic mostly.

Am I correct in assuming that?

I went out quite a bit in Port Olímpic, but it wasn't my favourite place to go. My favourite club in the city is Malalts de festa by far. The girls there aren't snobby at all, that's where I got the majority of my Spanish bangs. http://www.newmalalts.com/ leaf through some of the albums and you can see the quality of the girls, and the girl bartender holy fuck they are amazing!

Never heard of that place.

It's in Llobregat?

That is kind of outskirts no?

What metro line/stop?

Hey MidWest welcome to the forum mate! As for the Latino question I don't think you will have too many problems, Barcelona is a more liberal city than say Madrid and the only groups I could sense got some real race hate in Barcelona were North Africans and Pakistani/Indians. Towards the end of my stay I started hanging out with a group of really cool Mexican guys from the D.F. who were doing exchanges and they did really well with the Catalan girls. Those guys always got compliments from girls for their 'cute' Mexican spanish accents, which I'm assuming you speak Spanish with?

Let me know which uni you are going to and I can recommend some stuff nearby for you!

Yeah its outskirts of the city, it's about a 5 minute walk from the Metro station Av. Carrilet which is the Red L1.

Wish I'd found this thread earlier.

Had a really disappointing Saturday night, as far as GAMING goes. This might be one of the instances where I just say "fuckit" to game and enjoy the incredible archetecture, food, and wine of the city. I don't have a ton of time.

My first night out was in Eixample. I'd agree with the OP's assessment. It reminded me, not in a good way, of L.A. Lots of boutique shops. Lots of well heeled, well dressed people, but not a lot of hotties. I went to the bar in the OHLA hotel, not in Eixample but near El Born, and had the absolute best cocktails of my life, albeit the most expensive at 14-15E each (about 22 bucks on current exchange) Older crowd, not a single hottie in the joint on a Saturday night. Even when I walked by again at 1am it was an older crowd. Anyway I started chatting up the bartender; cool guy, turns out we know some mutual people. Started running my usual game of making contacts in high end venues to get future shit set up. Turns out the couple next to me were the bar owners, got all their numbers and recommendations. The bartender tells me, "You want hot girls, go to Boca Chica".

Not impressed. Amazing venue, and don't get me wrong the ratio was great and I'm fucking ecstatic to be here, but I just didn't see any girls that gave me a raging hardon.

I'll check out some of the places in the OP.

My first impression with girls here: There are absolutely no obese women. The few that I've seen are foreign. Not every girl is skinny mind you, there are some that are chubby, but no obesity. Lots of butterfaces. The hottest and youngest girls I'm seeing are in huge social circles, surprise surprise. Seems to be a global constant. Unlike L.A. however it seems like social circles might be easier to break through. I've been chatting up a storm to anyone that'll listen since I got here and 95% of people are very receptive and warm, been getting a lot of people telling me where to go and what to do. I think my Spanish is decent, but I think even making an effort goes a long way if yours isn't perfect.

You have to find the right places to roll on each night. It's pretty critical there.

I wrote a report that broke down that information better than I had seen on the Internet, but it is from 2010 I think.

Wouldn't this highly depend on how indigenous someone looks regardless of whether he was from Latin America or not? I'm sure Argentinians get a different reception than someone straight from Oaxaca or Puebla, at least it seemed that way when I was in Spain last year.

Hey mate sorry to hear your Saturday didn't go quite as planned but it's good to see that you gave a good go of it. El Born is quite trendy but can be pretty touristy as well given that the Picasso museum is situated in the district. How much longer are you going to be in Barcelona for?

Picasso museum is a great place to day Game.

Inside and out front. There is a little plaza there.

If you post up there for an half hour to an hour, I can almost guarantee you will see mass amounts of fly girls (tourists and Spanish girls).

Let me know how it goes.

I'm about a 5 minute walk from the Picasso museum. I'm staying on Sant Pere Mes Baix. I've got a few more days here. I'll definitely try posting up at the Museum, but I kind of blew my shot on Saturday night. I had just flown in and been in the city for 5 hours so I was pretty beat. I did stuff myself to the gills at El Xampanyet so that didn't help (but goddamn that's a great tapas bar. Fucking delicious and great wines.) actually, at el xampanyet, I had a really cute girl ask me in Spanish what the potatoes were stuffed with. I told her in Spanish and was about to keep chatting her up but she walked off.

I'll be the first to admit I'm not vibing with the city. I do see plenty of cute girls, but 90% of the time they're with a guy or in a group. I've done 3 street approaches and let's just say they weren't lucrative. I probably need to work on mellowing out and finding the right vibe. It's only my 2nd day here.

In my interactions with the locals, mostly at bars, they seem to be very direct, somewhat devoid of humor, and a little rough around the edges. I suspect it's because of the masses of tourists here and the local employees are probably sick of it. I notice I get better results when I stop smiling, stop using formalities like "Quisiera" or "Permiso..." and use "Dame" and always "Tu" forms in speech. Should that play into approaching girls? They react better to aggressiveness?

I chatted up a couple French girls tonight at Paco Meralgo. Nothing special, both 5s, but good practice. On the way home I walked by the University area and couldn't find any girls to approach whatsoever. Every bar I peeked into was either empty or filled with tourists.

I'm obviously not hitting the right venues.

G, when I was referring to L'Eixample, I meant Passeig de Gracia and Rambla de Catalunya. You're right that the area itself is huge and one night is no way to be making generalizations...I'm more than open to suggestions though.

thedude3737 - I wouldn't stress out for it being only your second day. Actually, when I was in Barcelona back in 2011 it was a 7days a week kind of city; it probably still is. There's a lot there to enjoy so I'd say just check out everything you want to see and if you come across something cute make the approach. Conserve your energy for the nightlife though. It gets hopping pretty late out there and there should be some moves even for Sunday night.

Yeah, to be honest I'm just here to meet old family that I've never met, and to eat/drink. But it's always in my down time or on the street, scanning for opportunities that the game part of my brain is going nuts and trying to figure shit out. I've got the entire day tomorrow with no plans. I'm gonna head down to Barceloneta and Port Olimpic and see what I can stir up.

Everytime someone says they don't like Barcelona, I ask them were they went.

They always say Las Ramblas.

I am talking like 50 times out of 50 on here. And I have said an equal amount of times that Las Ramblas is the #1 place to avoid in Barcelona.

The only reason I would go there is to watch tourists get hustled at 3 card Monte. That's it.

However, I am kind of shocked that Passeig de Gracia isn't holding fly girls.

I would post up there near La Pedrera and there should be mass fly girls walking by.

There is also a super nice hotel on Passeig de Gracia (can't remember the name right now) that would be a good place to post up.

---

Also, agreed with Hen. Don't get jumpy.

Barcelona is a big city. And a unique one at that.

It will take a while to get your bearings straight and get into a groove as opposed to a smaller city.

Hell, you could explore that city for 6 months.

Agreed. Understand, I was on the North end of Ramblas, very much different than the south end. Almost no tourists up there, mostly locals and college kids. Ducked into a random corner bar and watched Madrid vs. Barcelona. All locals.

I don't have any reference points with Bcn, so I don't know what the culture is like on a deeper level, but I get the impression that people here are in a slump. I've seen pretty massive protests the two days I've been here. Unemployment is at 25% or some crazy shit. My first day I met some really cool people but today I definitely got some bad vibes from the locals. Not sure if that's normal.

I did check out Ramblas near Boqueria and goddamn is that a shitshow. It is very entertaining to watch the tourists, I'll give you that.

After some talking with some locals I'm going to stick to El Born since that's where I'm staying, might as well maximize logistics. No point in going out on these excursions far out in the city and trying to find hidden treasure. As you said, there's a lot to see, I was thinking I could even spend a year here and still find new shit going on.

Apparently Passeig del Born has quite a few great nightlife spots that I haven't seen or touched, so I should have some solid material to work with. I'll report any good findings.

Cool, yeah, it would be interesting to get some good intel on El Born. I never really went there too much. For sure, lay down some info on restaurants too.

Keep your eyes peeled for some international students there that could use some direction. I am sure you will find that.

I usually roll the Carrer d’Aribau area, as my target (for better or worse) is usually richer Catalan girls. They are harder though. Way harder.

You are also close to all the spots near Barcelonetta and the port, so you should get some action there.

How is the weather there?

Your timing should be impeccable. May is a great month there. The tourist hordes have yet to decend. (I was there in May last time, although it may be a better time to pick up locals than tourists, there should be plenty of students there.)

--------

One of the best tactics in a city like Barcelona, because it is hard to figure out and so many spots, is when you see a group of 3 or 4 fly girls walking together in skirts and high heels, follow them.

Or ask them where they are going and roll with.

I have used that tactic many times in that city to find hidden gems.

(There are tons of hidden bars in that city that you would never know existed. You would just walk by them during the day as they have those pull down gates in front. Hell, there was one place right across the street from where I was saying I never knew existed until like a week or two later. It was only open one day a week or something and opened at 12am till morning. Super trippy).

Don't hesitate and just bust it.

It should pay dividends.

Can't agree more with G's assessment of La Rambla, literally a shithole, good for watching people get pickpocketed but little more. Honestly my recommendation for you as you are only in town for a little while I assume is head down to Port Olimpic and hit up Opium Mar, some good talent in there local and foreign and its a nice club. Go on http://www.listagolden.net and register and put yourself on the list for whatever night you want.....all you have to do is get there before a certain time. If you like to go out early you might want to check out Shoko before Opium, also on Lista Golden. Let us know how it goes mate!

BCN is a tough one to crack. There is so much here to see, you could take six months easily. I have been here for five months off and on since late September. Working most of the days/weekends, but I have explored a lot.

Firstly, as G says, stay away from La Rambla, tourist hell equivalent to Times Square. Don't bring your car, parking is a pain. The metro system here is one of the best I have seen. Taxis are everywhere, any hour.

Friday night is Barcelona's night out, with Saturday being second. The locals are pretty cold to newbies/new friends. My advice,(if you are not here long) go for the tourists first, expats second, Spanish third, and Catalan girls last. Catalan girls are difficult to catch. There are plenty of beautiful women to go around, just got to be in the right area at the right time. Usually the locals have dinner at nine or ten, hit the bars at 11 or 12, clubs after one am. Bars close at 3, clubs at 6.

Locations I like, Marmalade in Raval, I was in here a couple Friday nights ago on a date, plenty of nice looking women. La Luna in Born for drinks. Take a date to Rubi bar in Born, nice mood setting, walk her by the Opera house on the way, super beautiful building tucked out of most tourists view. Hell, see a Flamenco show here at the Opera house, I have heard it is the best in town, I have been trying to get there for months. La Ovella Negra near the top of La Rambla is usually packed with tourists, I think a ho(s)tel or something must be getting kickbacks or something. On the top of Hotel Duquesa de Cardona there is an excellent terrace bar, go there at night to have a nice view over Barcaloneta. There are many sweet bars in Born and Gotic, just wander and pick one. Gracia is a really neat neighborhood, this is were most of the younger/hipper people that keep Barcelona going live. A lot of expats here, worth exploring. I didn't spend much time up there, but what I saw, I like.

Clubs: I never go before 12, usually closer to one or two. Two hot spots for all the tourists Opium and Shoku. Another club is tucked up by Gracia is Suttons. Bring your VIP game, as table service appears to have taken over here. Lots and lots of talent. I only was there once and they were playing top 40 instead of house. Bling bling is nearby, never been. I like the club Be Cool a short walk from Suttons. Nice underground club, have heard some great djs here, but I don't think it would be great for pickup, more of a bring your own talent place. More serious about the music and not the show. Apolo, go here Monday night, I have been trying to get here for so long, and work has not made it possible. This place is open seven days a week usually. Always something going down, Mondays are legendary though. Summer is coming, and that means Mac Arena Mar will have Sunday sets back. This club is on the beach, and gets hopping after 11(a little earlier due to it being a work night I suppose). A lot more people outside the club on the sand, if you do this BYOB. The club is just a roped in area anyways, probably best to get entry and float in and out. Razzmatazz, this place should be seen, super club with five different scenes, usually a younger crowd. Most club's cover charge includes one free drink.

Solid data Timo, maybe the best first post anyone's had on the forum...

I've got a Bulgarian cousin that I met last night for the first time (I've got a weird family...literally scattered all over the world and I haven't met 75% of them) and she was giving me the full breakdown (she's been living here 13 years and has a family here), and it matches what you're saying 100%. The local culture here is very inclusive. It's fine by me, I'm used to being in a shark tank in L.A., but it definitely adds to the stress of being on foreign turf, even if my Spanish is pretty decent. If a girl bites over the next two days, great, but I'm not gonna go out of my way to bring home a tourist or expat. I'd rather be exploring and soak up as much as I can since it's unlikely I'll be back here anytime soon. I'm just gonna enjoy what i can over the next couple days, head up to Girona for a Michelin star dinner, and then take a train to Paris.
