How many mass shootings have there been in 2012? Seems like there has been a lot more than previous years, I can think of a few off the top, the Colorado Batman killings, the white power Siekh temple shooter, the Portland mall shooter, now this.... I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

The U.S. is fucked.... This shit looks like it will be continuing with no end in sight. I guess we should thank God every day we wake up in the morning.

Check out this little race-troll seed I'm going to plant:

Notice it's always white dudes doing these mass killings.

I suspect that gun control will become a major political issue in the next year.

Should've been an issue 15 years ago. Take something from your neighbors to the north. We sure don't have these problems. In Windsor which is beside Detroit there has been 1 murder in over 2 years. Any guesses how many have taken place in the same time frame in Detroit...

Windsor also suffered from the automotive down turn so thats no excuse.

There are some really volatile places in the world with suicide bombers etc...almost daily. Most of that violence seems very politically motivated. However, can you think of any other country where they have so many school shootings, mall massacres, freaks blasting people at batman movies? Remember the DC beltway sniper a few years back?

Mexico.

I live here and haven’t heard of Mexicans shooting up a school. Families are still intact and most people have a calmness about them that just doesn’t exist in America. Men will make friends with you in the gym and there isn’t a lot of defensiveness. Kids feel safe and look happy. I think this is very much a symptom of the super high stress individualistic and competitive American culture going sour. I am glad I live in a safe country.

More people will die, if not tonight, then this weekend as a direct result of alcohol related car accidents. And yet no one is complaining about the decline in morals/values/etc causing this. No one is demanding prohibition or the banning of cars. Drunk driving is going to kill several people in "enlightened peace loving" countries tonight as well, and there will be no outrage. No one will question how those societies have failed. So let's give it a rest and stop pretending that the US has now failed because some asshole went crazy with a gun.

I can't imagine how bad it must suck for the families of those kids. I really can't. But I can only dedicate a limited amount of myself to worrying about them. I have other priorities in my life that must be tended to, regardless of what comes on the news. Maybe that's cold and callous, but that's nature. We're not as removed from it as we'd like to think.

This guy obviously has zero social skills and hasn't gotten laid in a while. Escapes into video game fantasies, etc. etc. I see people like this every day in Milwaukee - it's scary as fuck when these asexual social retards get their rage going - a 140 pound weakling who couldn't do a single pull up to save his lie still has the ability to claim 27 lives. Unreal.

I used to live about 3 miles away from there and work there. You would never think you would need a gun and it's a place where kids can still play outside like they used to. Here's a picture of the busiest street in that town..

You DON'T need a gun there. You still don't. This guys is an aberration - an outlier - a fluke. Fuck him for taking/ruining these kids' lives.

We need tighter gun control. Yes, hardened criminals would still be packing, but the good news is that hardened criminals mostly stick to criminal-on-criminal crime.

These kind of weakling Columbine shooters are all so timid that they'd be thwarted by strict gun laws - this dork wouldn't have the social skills or the ability to get his hands on guns if they were illegal.

What is ultimately going to scare people is that the shooter looks more like an average Reddit user than the racist white supremacist a lot of people were secretly hoping for.

I tell you guys one thing if anything was ever going to change gun laws and school security this is going to be it right here. People in Connecticut are very smart and don't fuck around when they're pissed. An unprecedented amount of pressure is going to be put on our government to make changes.

You mean besides the Montreal Massacre? And what about Norway's Breivik?

The problem is the culture producing too many sexless Omega males who see no hope of getting laid by a non-fatty without resorting to prostitutes. Gun control will solve nothing.

"So where are these mythical All American True Blue NRA Concealed Carrying Lone Ranger Americans to stop all of these mass shooters (who get their semiautomatic weapons thanks to loose gun control laws) from killing people? You know, the gun owners that the GOP and gun rights people keep talking about, how they would save the day with their guns? Where are they at?"

Spree killers IMO are a direct result of societal change. Plain and simple. As big of a racist as heartiste is now, I remember when that crazy fucker shot up the womens gym, he had the most appropriate response.

American society is crumbling. If you are good, smart and kind, that doesn't guarantee you shit. And people are starting to get mad.
We can talk about guns, or lack thereof, all we want. but facts are facts - there are violent and peaceful societies with both extreme and lax gun control laws. Gun control, or lack thereof, is not the issue.

The issue is that normal, kind good people are not being rewarded for good deeds. "Society" at large lied to us. And people are pissed.
There are too many problems out there to name just one

Tuthmosis - good point, and any other time i would gladly talk to you on this.
But right now, I challenge every single person on this forum to try something new and radical.

Are you ready for this?

How about we all do a few acts of kindness. No intention of seeking a reward, just acts of kindness.

Volunteer. Help.

Or at the absolute least, call your friends and family, call the people you love, and tell them you love them.

That's how we fix society.

I'll start - even though I have never met any forum member in person, I love each and every one of you more than you could ever imagine.
Thank you for all the individuals here who helped me. Thank you for all the people that moved me with their stories. I love you all.

Now lets go out there and do some good

27 people, 100 people, it no longer matters. There will not be a single change to the foundation of America's values and culture that will halt these events. The media loves these stories because it gets them page views, the politicians love it because it distracts the populace and scores easy points with their base, and both the right and left love it because it allows them to strengthen and test their policy arguments.

I saw that you read Trust Me, I'm Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator.

I did too, and I have been thinking the same thing ever since.

How many events have we experienced? In a country of 300 million, with almost 250 millions guns?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ram..._massacres

China, which has a serious surplus of males, is showing some similar tendencies, except over there they just knife kids.

Gun control won't solve the problem of a dozen psychos. So stop letting yourselves be fooled be populist pandering, and use your heads. Heartiste's omega male diagnosis points to the real source of the problem, and it's not gun control.

A year from now you'll wish you started today

That is a really poor comparison.

Auto deaths are from accidents and/or drunk driving. Noone gets into a car and thinks, "I'M GONNA OFF MYSELF AND EVERYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD". At least not very often. Auto deaths can be lumped into everything else that we do that has the potential to get us killed, it just so happens that driving is by far the most dangerous thing that we do.

Some dude loading up a couple guns and going to town in an elementary school is a completely different scenario.

I think of it as a sort of thermometer. At 99 degrees, yeah, you got a little fever. You're sick, and you gotta take better care of yourself. This is what car crashes are like to me. Yes. We should be safer.

Guys in their 30s loading up and killing children in a school? Call the fucking ER and tell them to get ready because we got a live one. Running a fever of 103.5. THAT is a sick fucking society.

The montreal massacre was... 23 years ago. The Norwegian incident was a single incident. In the States nearly every other month a mass shooting is occurring amongst the general population.
