Delta and Virgin Atlantic Hook Up on London Routes

“This is the premier North Atlantic route,” Henry Harteveldt, a travel industry analyst at Hudson Crossing told the Daily News. “This is critically important to help both Delta and Virgin Atlantic capture more high-fare, high-profit corporate business travelers.”

Delta only has Business and Coach classes, and I've taken their flights to Heathrow out of Kennedy Airport. Only having 3 flights a day was a buzzkill. Business Class is pretty small, so this should be a moneymaker for them. I wonder what this does for the prices in coach, however. Either way, this is a nice development...

I wonder if flying Virgin will get you some sort of frequent flier miles with other Delta Affiliates being Korean Air, the one in Russia, etc.

I don't think the consumer will see any difference in price. I think this deal was motivated by Delta's underrepresentation in the busiest and most lucrative route in the airline industry (NY - London).

Acquiring this stake in Virgin Atlantic gives them more slots at Heathrow which is already operating at full capacity. London needs to build a new airport pronto! The expanded access will allow them to run more flights along this route.
