Fat Inflation

Saw on Zerohedge today that America's average ideal weight keeps increasing. Went to Gallup to confirm:

The average ideal weight has gone up 20 pounds in twenty years. Although this average counts both men and women, we know that this problem affects women more seriously than it does men. (It's not that more women are obese than men, it's that fatness hurts a woman's SMV moreso than it hurts a man's SMV.)

It's amazing that women today consider a healthy weight to be around 20 pounds heavier than it was in our father's generation.

Interesting. I guess the fatties are placing their "ideal weight" closer to their actual weight so they don't feel as bad.

My girlfriend barely weighs 100 lbs. I'm guessing that the average American woman weighs 150-200% what she does. Guys in this country really are fighting for scraps.

I also wonder if the ideal weight is going up because plenty of men are pussies who want to placate (fat) women and make them feel good about themselves.

Interesting point, but a quibble:

Actually, this is wrong.

An earlier post of mine:

I crunched the data a few days ago, and American women are more than twice as fat as American men. I define fatness as number of inches in waist circumference away from ideal, ideal being 32" for men, 24" for women. By ideal, I mean an obtainable ideal for the typical man and woman. The age group is 20-29. Link

Edit: These calculations were with the median, not the mean.

Men: 90.9 cm = 35.8 inches waist circumference
Women: 84.3 cm = 33.2 inches waist circumference

Men: 35.8-32 = 3.8
Women: 33.2-24=9.2
9.2/3.8= 2.42, or 142% fatter. If you say 25" is ideal for women, on average, it's 8.2/3.8 = 2.16, or 116% fatter.

BMI understates the fatness of women. Plenty a man can be 23, 25, 27 BMI and still look good, and perhaps not even be remotely fat. For a girl that does not weight train or seriously play sports, weight north of 22 BMI is fat, pure and simple. And even waist circumference probably understates female corpulence. Men store fat more around their bellies, and women around their thighs and arms.

Also the obesity cutoff for women is too high - it should be lower:

As for obesity, doctors are starting to come around to what I've been saying, that there are far more fat women than men, and that the BMI threshold of 30 for 'obese' status for women is way too high. Here a doctor says that the threshold for obesity for women should be lowered to 24 and for men to 28. As I've said elsewhere, there are twice as many fat women as men, and changing the BMI threshold for obesity as the doctor recommends would swiftly reflect that, instead of the bullshit the CDC et al currently publish, saying that there are roughly equal numbers of male and female fatties.

BMI is a rough proxy for body fat percentages. Men and women, past a certain body fat %, are deemed obese or overweight. The exact percentage differs among health authorities, and the men's cutoff is about five percentage points lower than the women's. But whatever the cutoff, BMI understates the rate of obesity, especially among women. If you declare that men and women with body fat percentages above say, 25% and 30% respectively are obese, you'll find many more women than men who are obese, as the linked article makes clear.

Lots of fat people in both sexes.

Average male waist of 35.8 is seriously fat. Unless your 6' 240 pounds theres no reason for that. The average waist size of women is even scarier. For those of you fatties think about all the money you can save on food if you lost 20% of your body weight.

Assuming average person spends 100 dollars a week on food. The fat person eats 20% additional food to weigh 20% more. To be simple we'll use 120 dollars a week as the number although it's certainly more than that do to metabolism, body adjustment etc. Thats 83420 dollars extra in food over 80 years! And I'm being generous in my calculations. Can you imagine someone 50% more than the average weight or 100% over the average weight.

It's much closer to ideal weight for a girl who is 6'.

However, less than one percent of american girls are over 5'10". This means that it's all downhill from here:[Image: 6.jpg]

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

The numbers above look off. I clicked the link and the actual average waist for a male over 20yo is 100.8 cm or 39.7"!

I'm 6'0 and have a measured waist of 33.5". Im working vigorously at trimming it down even more, and honestly would have thought of myself as average. Good news I guess. For women the average is 37", gross!
