Recently, I spent a couple of nights in Greenville, South Carolina, and though I didn't get to bang while there, I can tell the place has plenty of potential. Just wanted to put the place on the map with a few notes.
Getting There
I traveled to Greenville by automobile, but the city is serviced by commercial flights and Amtrak. The train station is about 1.5 miles from the main strip. Most commercial flights are to Greenville-Spartanburg, thirteen miles from town. There is an airport three miles from downtown but it seems to cater towards general aviation and not commercial flights.
Where to Stay
There are multiple hotels within a few blocks of Main Street. Logistics are great since you're within a few blocks of nearly all the bars in downtown.
- Westin
- Hyatt
- Courtyard Suites
- Holiday Inn Express
- Hampton Inn
Local Talent
Mostly white, plenty of 6's and 7's. Subjective observation: The level of obesity seems to be lower than in most major American cities I've been to. A note on local demographics, for every 100 females ages 18+ there are approximately 86 males.
Day Game
The city's Main St. is made for day game. Tons of people strolling up and down the streets, stopping at local cafes for a drink or a bite to eat. Plenty of girls to talk to. Falls Park on the Reedy would be a great place to take any girl for an insta-date walk. Damn near every establishment on the strip has tables on the sidewalk where one could sit with a girl and chat her up.
Nightlife
There are tons of bars on Main St. to choose from. Clientele in most bars seemed to be mixed sets of all ages. I spent a Saturday afternoon walking up and down the street, stopping at different bars along the way for a brew. A few of the names I can remember:
- On the Roxx
- D.T.'s Tavern
- Carolina Ale House
- Nose Dive
- Corner Pocket Taproom
- Art Bar on Main
- Sharkey's Pub
The real nightlife gem is outside of town, a place called The Blind Horse Saloon. It's a honky tonk/juke joint where everyone goes to dance, get hammered, and hopefully hook up. My friends and I got kicked out after one of them got cut off and had an altercation with the bouncer, but there were plenty of good looking women wanting to drink and dance. I think being from out of town is an immediate DHV. The only negative is that it's a 3-4 mile cab ride from downtown.
There's also a few strip clubs around town, but the only one I remember the name of was called Platinum Plus. It's about three miles outside of town, near a bar called Twin Peaks, which had some fine looking waitresses.
If you like hockey (I do) the Greenville Road Warriors of the East Coast Hockey League play at the BI-LO Center near downtown. Worth the ticket price to see a good game on the ice.
Oh yeah, if you're in town, have lunch at Antonino Bertolo's Pizzeria. The Sicilian pizza is absolutely delicious.
