The Official Presidential Election Thread

The most important "leader" in my life is me. I control my lifestyle. I control my income. I control my habits. I control my decisions.

If I want change in my life, I have to make it happen.

The outcome of my life will not be determined by the president. I will be determined by me.

If my life is not going the way I want. I don't blame some guy in Washington D.C.

No, no, and no.

8 years of Bush, 4 years of Obama. Did anything actually change?

For most of us, it really doesn't matter who is president.

Hard to change anything with a Republican Congress whose only goal is to stonewall the President and make him a lame duck.

He had a Democratic majority in the House and Senate the first two years of his Presidency and what the fuck did he do with it? He threw the public under the bus with the healthcare bill and raised the federal tax on cigarettes by $0.62 per pack.

You're wrong. Read this, please :

You're Googling my words incorrectly. Did I claim he had a filibuster-proof Senate? Did I claim he could do anything he wanted? What exactly was he blocked from doing those first two years though?

He bailed out the auto industry. He instituted massive regulations in the banking industry. He raised the funding for food stamps and other entitlement programs. Don't you think the Republicans would want to stop him on those fronts(well, maybe not the criminal auto industry scam)? Where were those filibusters?

The Republicans are breaking records with their use of filibuster.

Not voting, not going to any parties, not giving a fuck how the balance of the world is. Personally I can vote but due to certain circumstances have chosen not to. If I were to vote I would probably be in the booth for over an hour trying to decide the candidate. To me both parties are flawed and wont really do this country any good, besides that I think the USA is beyond repair in every single aspect. It doent matter who becomes commander in chief, everything will continue going on a downward spiral.

Couldn't give a fuck less, really. I wouldn't mind seeing Mitt win, just so all of the Obama hipsters can throw a fucking fit.

Rio, personally I could give a flying fuck who wins. Nothing will change for players on this forum. The only thing that makes me want Obama to win more than Romney is he is more for the middle class. Nobody with a straight face, can tell me that Romney really cares more than Obama about the class that means the most for America. He is for the wealthy... case closed.
Most of the middle class in America are beta, less bright, naive, shallow but in the end hard working and with decent intentions.
Both Obama and Romney are alpha males though the president is the more mangina of the 2. But the rich and powerful dont need any help financially, just like alphas dont need help with banging girls.
So as independent men who dont need any help, lets be benevolent for those who do, whether it is for pussy or money.

Nope, nope, nope. I rather work then spend my time voting for bullshit. I thought about casting a vote for Romney in ManAbout's honor.

Roosh?

Will be voting Romney (surprise). Am betting 100% on his skills as an executive and data-oriented approach will at least give us a fighting chance of avoiding bankruptcy and perhaps also getting us in good enough shape to stand up to Chinese domination in 20 years, which we have absolutely no chance of doing under the current path. I don't believe he'll raise defense spending, I actually think he's going to use that as a bargaining chip to lure Democrats into a deal on entitlement reform.

Biggest issues for me are tax-reform (lower marginal tax rates on labor income), entitlement and necessarily also immigration reform (the former is meaningless without the latter).

Am not too worried about social issues, I trust they will let give the States greater autonomy on that.

A year from now you'll wish you started today

Of course they've been using the shit out of it the last couple of years. That's what happens when they have angry constituents. They can't just add earmarks to bullshit bills for votes anymore. Can you point to a piece of legislation that would've "helped" the country which was blocked in his first two years that wasn't reintroduced and passed with minor amendments? The only thing I can think of is his support for cap and trade, and that would have sent this country's economy in to a death spiral and would have killed off the last remnants of the middle class.

Not from the US so no, yes and yes. Vote for Obama, vote for stimulus, end this depression now.

How the hell is the stimulus going to end the depression? How does debasing our currency help the average citizen?

At the moment the private sector isn't willing to spend enough to make use of the US's full productive capacity and employ people who want to work but can't find work. If the private sector won't spend, then the best way we can close the output gap and increase demand is through government spending (given that we can't lower interest rates any further)

This would restore the US economy closer to full employment, whilst making both private and public debt easier to pay off. A little bit of inflation (around 4%) wouldn't hurt either.

Otherwise you could end up with the US version of the Cameron government that we have over here in the UK - we're sliding back into recession (the recent blip was the Olympics but unfortunately we don't have an Olympics every quarter!) and business confidence is at around the same low levels as it was in 08/09. So a resounding success, really [Image: sad.gif]

Only War or Strategic Government spending (stimulus) will get a nation out of a Economic Depression. If the USA tried honest stimulus from the start (infrastructure spending) instead of shoring up dead banks and paying off thier crony friends on Wall Street America would of been fine along time ago. Until they do this the problem will never be fixed.

Vote glitch reports pile up in US election

By Rob Lever (AFP) – 19 minutes ago

WASHINGTON — Voting went smoothly in Tuesday's US elections, except when it didn't.

Some computer problems, as well as human ones, drew complaints across the country as millions of Americans went to the polls.

One Pennsylvania voter highlighted a problem with voting machines on YouTube, complete with video, in which a touchscreen changed his choice from President Barack Obama to Republican Mitt Romney.
"I initially selected Obama but Romney was highlighted," the man wrote. "I assumed it was being picky so I deselected Romney and tried Obama again, this time more carefully, and still got Romney."

This was not the first allegation of foul-ups with electronic machines. In Ohio, some Republicans claimed machines were changing Romney votes to Obama, while Democrats accused Republican state officials of installing untested "experimental" software at the last minute.

To make matters worse in the crucial swing state, some voting machines were malfunctioning in parts of the Cleveland area, said the Plain Dealer, which quoted election officials as saying ballots would be counted even if scanning machines were down.

In New Jersey, a late decision to allow voters displaced by superstorm Sandy to cast ballots by email caused confusion and frustration.
"Oh no! email box for Essex County Clerk's box is full. No one can email in their ballots," said a tweet from one resident.

Betsy Morais, a writer for The New Yorker, found similar glitches.
"I went to the clerk's Web site, downloaded the application, and printed out two pages, which I filled in, scanned, and submitted by e-mail," she wrote.

"It bounced back. I tried again, and once more the message failed. It took three tries to get through to the clerk's office by phone. 'Oh, you can just go online to our Web site to find the ballot and fax it in,' I was told. I was confused."

Another source of confusion was a last-minute modification, just hours before polls opened, stipulating that voters needed to mail in paper ballots as a verification of the email vote.

The news website Buzzfeed reported that in two major New Jersey counties, email address advertised on the website of the county clerk were down, and that one county clerk posted his hotmail address on Facebook for voters.

That in turn prompted a Facebook response from one netizen, who said, "Using your personal hotmail address for official use is very dangerous and quite likely illegal."

In Florida, The Tampa Bay Times reported that hundreds of voters received automated "robo-calls" telling them the election was Wednesday.

An official told the paper a glitch in the phone system allowed the calls to go through early Tuesday, telling voters the election was "tomorrow."
"We stopped it immediately when we found out about it," Nancy Whitlock of Pinellas County told the newspaper.

A similar glitch was reported in the US capital city Washington.
The Arizona Republic reported that robo-calls directed voters to the wrong polling stations, and that Democrats claimed it was an intentional effort by Republicans to misdirect people amid a tight Senate race.

Voted Romney, no, no.
This country has to get serious about cutting into its debt and reducing the tax burden so as to spur investment, both from individuals and companies. I believe Romney is the better candidate for that.

The news is trying hard to make this a tight race. Watch them hold back results to give the illusions its a dead heat till the very end. Lets see how much they can fight off real-time info from Twitter, etc.

Speaking of which what is a good site for live video. I want to flip back between all the MSM media. Regular stream sites I use for sports are not doing it for me right now.

Does he have the confidence to pull something dramatic off?

I have no problem with voting, but people in DC get so fucking self-righteous and smug about voting that it makes it difficult for me not to turn into a raving lunatic. I'll be at home catching periodic updates on the election returns with a detached curiosity for who ends up winning.

The line was short at my polling place, so I did vote. I voted for Gary Johnson and it felt pretty good to free myself from the Team Red vs Team Blue bullshit. I don't think the two major parties are exactly the same, but they are close enough for my tastes. There are the things that I want: stop wasting American blood and treasure on foreign adventures, get the federal budget in order before we're all experiencing a lot of unnecessary pain, and stop the escalating police and prison state that is America. Neither Obama nor Romney will do any of those three things.
