Does anyone use any of these optimising services like CloudFlare? What would you recommend and how would you say it affects SEO?

Https is always going to load slower than http. I don't think there's much you can do about that.

The general consensus is that Cloudflare doesn't make your website faster for domestic visitors. It's a reverse proxy so it can make your website faster for foreign visitors by showing them a cached version.

I think people mostly use Cloudflare to protect themselves against attacks. A cached version of your website will stay online during an attack.

Site speed does affect SEO and your conversion rate. That's why I spent a good amount of time earlier this year trying to make my websites faster. I thought about making a datasheet but I'm not sure if there is enough interest. If you want you send me a PM and I can take a look at your site and give you suggestions.

I made two fortunes on the internet. One from my software business, and another from AdSense sites.

The easy money has been made but I seem to have had some success lately in resurrecting old sites. Basically you gotta go in your Google Analytics and find any pages with ~0 traffic from Google in the last couple of months. Then you gotta delete those pages. Nobody's interested in them. They don't make the grade. Just ruthlessly cull them, regardless of how good you think they are.

Then you gotta write some super high quality posts, 1000 words minimum. Target keywords of course.

Also try to build useful stuff, not just boring blog posts.

I'm just glad I became financially independent from my investment income, so now I just build sites for fun. Actually this seems to be a successful ideology as I've had a lot more traffic gain since I adopted this mindset.
