Seoul Data Sheet (Fall 2012)

Texas Prophet inspired me to write a data sheet about Seoul. I think it's relevant because I used to work/live there, I just got back a few days ago, and a lot of the info I read on the forum was dated... plus Seoul changes so quickly: I liken it to New York on steroids filled with Asians.

For background, I'm a Korean American in my early 30's, 5'10", medium build, pretty good but not great Korean skills.

Standard Data Sheet.

City Overview :
-

Girls : The quality of the girls is extremely dependent on what area of the city you are in. If you're in a hip place like Apkujeong, Gangnam or Itaewon (on a weekend night) then the talent will naturally be at a 6+ level. If you're putzing around a no-name area, it'll be a lot less. Thankfully, Korean culture prizes beauty above just about all other attributes in women, so for the most part, females take that shit surriouss.

As such, plastic surgery is rampant, and Koreans tend to have a certain image. Definitely taller and leggier than most Japanese, but there are relatively few girls with big boobs (unlike China). Although lately, a lot of the younger generation have really started to put time into the gym and I've noticed more fake boobs around town. It used to be that it was enough for girls to just have a pretty face and a stick-thin body, but now they're shooting for the entire package. Nice, right? Well... there's pros and cons.

Sight seeing : Lots of temples, museums, the DMZ (if you're a history buff), the Han River, etc. Seoul is not naturally a beautiful city, if you want nature, you should go out into the countryside... and a different forum for that matter. WTF you want to learn about that shit here in RVF? [Image: smile.gif]

Lodging : Koreans aren't really big on hostels, and I've never stayed at one, so I have no leg to stand on when it comes to that niche. As for budget (sub $100/night), there are lots of independent places called "officetels" that are pretty spacious and usually rent out floors in office buildings. Midrange you have a bunch of corporate hotels that will go anywhere from $100-$250 that include the Hilton, Hyatt, Club Carlson, and all of the regular players. Examples of some top end hotels are probably the Intercontinental in COEX mall, the Park Hyatt in Gangnam and the Grand Hyatt Namsan. Also, if you manage to SNL a girl, there are tons of "love motels" around that go for $40-$80 for a few hours. Necessary evil when most unmarried people live at home with mom/dad.
-

Day game spots : Even if your Korean is super tight (mine isn't, I speak at a 70% mark and I have a 2-100's ratio) day game is not the way to go in Seoul. Korea is still considered the most Confucian country in the world, and that philosophy teaches strict hierarchies in society: people are taught from an early age that you should know the status of who you're talking to, and if you're some joker off the street, this totally goes against that mantra. A big exception is if you're obviously extremely wealthy and holler at a girl in an exotic sports car. See the video of the guy in the Audi R8 asking for girls' numbers off the street in Apkujeong in the "South Korean men are doomed" thread. Incidentally, my American friend shipped his Maserati from Hong Kong to Korea a few years back and used to do the exact same thing... at night. [Image: smile.gif]
-
Nightlife spots : Always have to be on top of this shit because the "it" places change so frequently. Currently as of October 2012, the most happening night club is Octagon in Nonhyundong. Again, status is king here. I went twice this past trip: the first time I ran regular dance and bar game and got probably an 80% blowout rate, a few numbers, and one tiny makeout before the girl got pulled away by her friends to some other dude's table. The next night, I swallowed my pride and bought a table with a couple of other guys. At 1.2 million won ($1100 tax/tip included) split four ways, it was roughly the same as an LA club (infinitely cheaper than Vegas though)... After opening girls on the dance floor, I'd say at least 50% came upstairs with us after finding out we had a table. I know there are lots of guys saying "True players don't do table service" but I think that's the worst kind of inflexible bullshit in my book. Have to adapt in different circumstances and while in LA I think bottle service is ridiculous, the SNL that I had with the cute/sexy music teacher that night helps me realize I made the right decision. Did not see one fat girl present (as I'm sure they realize they'd be wasting everyone's time) and the average was 6.75, which in my book is eminently bangable. Saw at least twenty different 8's and a few 9's as well which is extremely rare in LA's Koreatown...

Also, Hongdae is where a lot of the universities are in Seoul and there are a lot of smaller more underground clubs there. Extra plus is that on the last Friday of each month, they have a "club night" where $15 gets you into 20 different clubs with one cover charge. Talent here is decidedly more varied because it tends to be much cheaper for both guys and girls.

Finally, Itaewon is traditionally the foreigners hangout spot. "Hooker Hill" is where a lot of American GI's go and I'm sure you can tell by its name the type of entertainment you can find there. However, Itaewon has been experiencing sort of a resurgence and a lot of Koreans go there for bars, clubs and a lot of different types of ethnic foods.
-
Ease of approaching : Koreans are continuing to send their children overseas to study, primarily in the US, UK, Australia and other English speaking countries (Philippines, Malta, etc). That being said, conversational ability is generally pretty low and girls tend to be shy about their inability to speak regular everyday English. You'll find that this is less in Itaewon (the foreigner area) and certain extremely high end bars and clubs where monied Koreans go to hang out. If you're into this, stay in Itaewon or go to JJ's in the Grand Hyatt Namsan or the bar at the W Hotel in Walker Hill, both noted pickup joints for English speaking Koreans and foreigners alike.

If you want to go native - especially as a foreigner, x2 if you're black (I'm just saying how it is, don't kill the messenger!) - then you better bring your "A plus double good" game. Native guys have come a long way in the past decade: before they used to be schlubby goofs and my English speaking friends and I would just kill it. Now all these motherfuckers are going to the gym, wearing brand name clothing, doing their hair perfectly and even wearing 2 inch height inserts in their shoes. What I'm saying is, the competition already tends to be in shape, looks good and most importantly speaks the language and knows the culture.

The white friend I know that does the best with 8+ Korean girls tries to accentuate the differences. First of all, he's jacked as hell and although not super tall at 5' 9", he gets a lot of interest from girls because he's so much more muscular than normally lean Koreans. He also has blonde hair and green eyes and makes sure to play it up by actually dying his hair lighter. Plus, the guy speaks broken Korean but he gets the focus off of girls' insecurity to speak English by saying ridiculous things that invariably make them laugh.

I know one black guy who's a defense contractor on the army base there and he absolutely kills it with the super cute hip-hop girls in Hongdae. Much like the hip hop craze in Japan, there's a certain subset of girls who are crazy into hip hop and bagging an African American (or any other type of black person) is a huge notch in their belt. Play to your strengths, or as Bruce Lee said, "be like water". In other words, why try and break down centuries of social conditioning in girls whose parents taught them "dark is bad" when you can just go for the girls that're into your style and flavor?

I'm putting this in here because this forum is about truth and not political correctness: Girls who are 8.5+ are fucking hard to get in Korea. Fine bitches are getting their shit paid for by celebrities and sons of the people that own Samsung, LG, Kia and a myriad of other companies. These girls live probably the greatest lives in Korea: never have to work, study minimally, and are destined to become trophy wives to aforementioned trust fund kids. You don't speak the language, know the culture and aren't as rich as your competitors? Then you better be one famous, good looking, charming motherfucker. I'm not saying not to try, because I'm sure it can happen at one point or another, I'm just saying that it will be extremely difficult.

That being said, 5.5's and up to 7's are surprisingly easy. Most of these girls don't go to the high end spots, but congregate in the college ghettos. Open them in English (they're going to giggle like crazy because they're not used to foreigners) speak the broke-ass Korean that you know, and invite them to go to another joint. Korean liquor (aka Soju) is cheap ($3 for a 375ml bottle) and no matter how much a girl drinks, you're not going to spend more than $30 on getting both of you full and blitzed. Then pay the $50-$70 for a love motel and get with it. I'm an equal parts quantity/quality guy and I can say that for every 7.5 I've banged, I've probably banged five times as many 6's. In my 2 years spent working in Seoul and the 10 times I've been back since then, I can honestly say I've only banged two 8's and one 9 in Korea. Is this what they mean about decreasing marginal utility? [Image: smile.gif]
-
Prices and other stuff : Simple... luxury and foreign items are going to be way more expensive than the US/Europe. Food, transportation (taxi, subway) and local items are significantly cheaper. Rent is quite expensive (My friend pays $4500/month for a 1200 foot apartment) but most of you won't have to worry about that stuff.
-
Logistics : Once you get to a certain destination, Seoul is very walkable. However, you want to use the taxi, bus or subway to get there. The bus system is extremely confusing (and I speak Korean!) but the subway is the easiest and most comprehensive I've encountered in the world. Taxis are also dirt cheap and there's absolutely no reason to rent a car in Korea. Also note that car insurance is extremely fucked up in Korea and basically whoever has the more expensive car doesn't have to pay. Not as simple as that, but caveat emptor is all I'm saying.
-

Overall pros and cons :

Pros : If you couldn't tell already, I fucking love Seoul. The city's got great energy, it's so convenient (you can get anything delivered at any time!) I get to see my friends, I practice my Korean and of course I love the fact that it has the highest concentration of attractive Korean women in the world.

Cons : Having said that, Korea is noisy, congested, smelly (smog + sewer smell = very unpleasant), Koreans tend to be quite insular and rude if you don't know them, and unfortunately, it's not the poosy paradise it once was back in 2002-2004. Girls definitely have more of a bitch shield than they used to have, but keep at it and remember that it's usually not personal: a lot of girls just haven't had experience with foreign guys, and they're embarrassed because they don't know how to act. Now as for your author, they tell me in no uncertain terms to fuck off. [Image: smile.gif]

Personal experience : I used to average a girl a week back in the golden era of pickup in Seoul. This past trip, I went for a week and got two bangs: one SNL from the music teacher from Octagon, and an underground casino dealer I met through friends. There's a huge P4P culture in Korea which I'll address in the area below:
-
Final Thoughts : Paid entertainment, as in most of Asia, is huge in Korea. I'm of the opinion that there are some guys that are adamantly against it, and there are some that put way too much stock in it... I'd like to think that I occupy the middle. The scene runs the gamut from quick handjob massage places to ultra high end brothels. With that disclaimer out of the way, the one 9 that I slept with in Korea was someone I met at a "room salon".

Basically, this is a hostess bar/karaoke room that businessmen go to. Some rooms have sex explicitly on the menu, some don't. This one in question was one of the highest-end room salons ($1500 per person) and sex was not included in the menu of services. I was paired with one of the hottest girls (never mind Korean) that I had ever seen in my life. As all of colleagues were middle aged men with paunches, I was by default the most interesting male, and I used every game trick in the book to out psychologize her ass. Took me three weeks of texting her endless lies, two very expensive dinners and killing two bottles of '01 Insignia (bitch didn't even know she was drinking a 99 pointer, she just knew it was expensive) at home to get her to open her legs... but that was the most enjoyable four months of sex I've ever had with anyone in my entire life.

Long story short: If you have an insane desire to bang a 8.5+ in Korea, go to a high end room salon with sex on the menu. Otherwise, try your chances with the fine chicks in the hot clubs... or alternatively, be much more inclined toward success with the slightly lower end 6's-7's in Hongdae, Itaewon and Sinchon. Good luck!

Seoul Data Sheet (Fall 2012)

Great report there Booshala!

Unfortunately I have no experience with Korean girls (but they are def. in my future plans), but I do with Chinese and Japanese. For us lay men how would you compare Koreans to these two? I'd imagine they are more like Japanese? Also, while abroad, I met some Korean business dudes over the years and they always struck me as being very self-conscious and also almost rabidly nationalistic (think Japanese on steroids [Image: smile.gif] I don't know why I am saying that, maybe because I remember them for it.

Anyway,

Mmm, Korean 7's, don't mind if I do.

Hmm, why would I need to pay for a love motel if I already have a place to stay (either my own hotel room, or private accom.?)

Also, I'm surprised to hear that taxis are cheap in Seoul? I didn't expect that; they are silly cheap in China and awfully expensive in Tokyo.

I use to work with a Korean girl who had plastic surgery on her eyes, to make them less asian.

How common is this in Korea?

Hey Gaston,

After talking about it with my Asian friends, I've come to the conclusion (accurate or no) that Japanese are obsessed with quality and will sacrifice quantity and part with hard earned money for "the best". Chinese occupy the other end of the spectrum and are all about large quantity at a cheap price, despite necessary losses in price. Koreans occupy some of the middle ground, although I think we are a lot earthier than Japanese and more akin to the Chinese in that regard. These modes of thought in Korea stem from 50 years of colonial suppression under Japan, centuries as a vassal state under china and now as a world power on its own. This applies to food, cars, women, pretty much any/all commodity.

As for love hotels, they're usually situated right next to big nightlife centers and sometimes it's just logistically better to seal the deal quickly before any last minute resistance. My friend has this hilarious story where he took a former Miss Teen Korea back to his apartment instead of a nearby love hotel. He said he could literally see the effects of her sobering up in the taxi and thinking that caffeine would make her hyper/horny, he brewed her a cup of Blue mountain drip at his place. "Mmmm, good coffee, youre so handy" she apparently said, stroking his ego. Unfortunately for him, that's the only thing she stroked before calling a cab home.

I'd give both of those girls 8-8.5 as they have really nice faces. 9-9.5's in my book have the same level face but ridiculous bodies, almost certainly surgically altered. I'm sort of old school, but I think the two hottest Kpop stars of all time were Lee Hyori and Chae Yeon, although Shim Mina gets an honorable mention.

I'm kind of flattered that Roosh would refer to my thread... but also I feel a little miffed in that I think he took a lot of my commentary out of context. Still, it's good to know that I'm contributing somewhat to this forum.

Thanks for taking the time out to respond, Roosh. I didn't take it that you were saying I couldn't get ass... just thought that it left out a lot of useful info I had about finding much easier places than the high end nightclubs. Still, I have a lot of respect for you, so overall I'm still pretty pleased that I was able to add content to one of your articles.

I'd also add that Koreans can drink a lot of alcohol. This was the first country where I really felt that locals can outdrink me. You'll routinely see people literally fucked up, and they would still keep drinking. Girls drink as much as guys, and the drinking culture basically forces you to drink (like if the oldest person at the table drinks, everyone drinks with him). So if you have a date with a chick and drinking together, know your limits.

Great sheet!
Just got back from spending two weeks there (also Busan and Gyeongju) and loved every second off it!
Seoul is such a dynamic place, always something happening.
You should mention that koreans are a complex people, and not always easy to understand; they might say something, but want and mean something else.
There is also a ton of social norms of how to conducte and behave yourself depending on your "place" in the society, hierarchy.
But as a toursit/traveler you will pass on most off you fuck-ups here.

I found lodging to be very reasonable; off all the places I stayed inn , the most expensive one was under 50 U$. And all rooms had big beds, big-ass flat screens, minifrigeds (with free soda and other stuff like ginseng and energy drinks, which is everywhere), AC, computers , free shampoos and soaps.
They are obsessed with cleaniness, and white skin is a sign off beauty.

In Busan I noticed there was alot of russian people and tons of bars (p4p) with philippino names like cebu, manila, and philipino working girls.

Girls; I found the Japanses girls to be more beautiful. I did not see any fat girls either.

Nice post man! I will be there for at least a year, and will have much more disposable income than I have had in a while. I keep hearing about how awesome public transit is...but do you know anything about owning a vehicle there? I am thinking about MAYBE getting a street bike while I am there, but am not sure if I can use a California Drivers License, like you can in all of Mexico?

Also, these underground casinos you speak of...I am VERY interested. Can you elaborate a little more on how to find them, what games they have, and how to break into the circles? I am sure they would be very wary of a Yangnum at first.

What kind of work are you going to be doing there? If you're uncomfortable posting it, you can always PM me... but it's a useful question because upper crust Korean girls tend to look down a little on foreigners who are GI's and English teachers, but are much more inclined to expats for multinational companies or visiting students. Not saying it's going to ruin your chances, but just putting it out there.

In the datasheet above, I specifically said not to drive there. The auto insurance laws are insane and basically whoever has the more expensive car wins and the other person has to pay up. Koreans are also pretty nationalistic, so if you get into an accident that's clearly their fault, it's not unlikely that eyewitnesses and the police will side with their countrymen. Taxis are cheap and the subway takes you everywhere, so unless for some reason you're going to commute long distances everyday, I'd say to avoid driving at all costs.

No need for you to go to underground casinos, they're only for locals. The whole reason they're underground is that the legit casinos only allow people with foreign passports in, so locals go to these grind joints to get their gambling fix.

O ok gotcha. Ya I am going to teach english there, but I have pretty tight Asian game. For some reason I do very well with Korean girls, but they have always been traveling so maybe it is different on their home turf? Good to know they have real casinos, how lame that it is illegal for Koreans to gamble, but they let foreigners. Can I bring in a Korean girl under my passport or is it literally JUST

I will be living in Incheon, but going to Seoul almost every weekend. I am dating a girl there and was just toying with the idea of gettin a bike, but not if insurance is going to be outrageous. Thanks for the information man, I really appreciate it.

Yeah, every person that enters the casino needs a valid foreign passport. The reason behind banning locals is that the government doesn't mind taking money off of foreigners but they would prefer that their citizens be uncorrupted. Plus, Koreans are notorious degenerates: a few years ago when the lottery started for the first time, there were over 200 reported cases where people went bankrupt spending their entire life savings on tickets. Of course, none of them actually won the jackpot.

I'm in Seoul 2-3x a year, so we'll try to hook up another time. Good luck with the teaching gig, man... I know lots of people that went with that, make sure that you get everything in writing and if they get offended, just say you're a stupid American and you need it to feel comfortable. SmileLast I heard, they were paying averag only around 2 Million won a month, hope you're teaching somewhere ritzy.

Seoul Data Sheet (Fall 2012)

overall pretty solid writeup from booshala.

the only thing i'd add is to take your length of stay into consideration.

for 8.5+, it takes time, energy, and investment into your social circles. definitely worth investing in if you've got several months or years in korea. get in tight with guys who know where all the hot events are, ie. party promoters. they are mostly korean-americans, speak english fluently, and tend to concentrate in gangnam.

but for short-term stays, you'll probably find it a waste of time trying to build a social circle since there are tons of westerner-friendly 6-8's dtf in hongdae/itaewon. dress appropriately, and caveman aggressively.

just as an aside: it's been my experience that 8.5+ are no better in bed than girls <8.5. nothing worse than working so hard/carefully towards something only to see it fall short of your expectations. just something to think about. nothing in life is for free [Image: wink.gif]

Seoul Data Sheet (Fall 2012)

Just got to Seoul on Friday. Initial impressions were positive as while waiting around Hongdae for my host I saw more girls I'd want to bang in an hour than 10 days in Japan.

Maybe they're just more my type but they have cuter faces, seem to dress to their body shape better, and are a little thicker than J girls. Which may make it a little painful knowing how hard it is here to bang them based on reading the various Seoul posts.
Plus there are just a buttload of people walking around everywhere.

Creepshot of the day
[Image: JpVfzOW.jpg]

Maybe one day I will chill in a busy area and just leave my camera running. I think people don't really have a good idea of what a lot of the girls here look like.

I will probably be here 2 weeks. The good news is there's a lot of cheap airbnb places in Hongdae close to everything.

Friday I went to one of the Gorillas which unfortunately only are open on weekends. Within 5 minutes a drunk Korean girl is grabbing on me - she said she was a latino asian from Paraguay. Unfortunately she was a 4, super short hair and not a cute face. I ditched her and looked for something better but didn't have any luck.

Saturday I slept really late unfortunately and woke up at like 2AM.

Sun/Mon/Tues everything I walked past looked closed. Except for Cocoon - 0 foreigners, super sweaty, hardly anyone drinking or talking to each other... don't bother with Tron either, they don't even serve alcohol.

I've started a little pipelining on KoreanCupid but it's pretty much a ghost town. OkCupid seems busier but it's mostly foreigners it seems.

In one area of Hongdae there were a bunch of dudes with earpieces. Some were approaching Korean guys, some girls, similar to hostess clubs in Japan do. After wandering a bit one finally approached me and in broken English said "boo-KING club?" he pulled out his phone and clicked on a video, it was a guy alone at a table with a girl in his lap kissing and grinding on him with a plateful of food at a table. I told him no, later online I looked up to see what the deal was. Guys pay an expensive amount for food/bottles, and tip waiters to literally drag regular girls to their table and eat their food/drink their alcohol. After that you're on your own as to what happens.

Haha, you must've gotten a picture of the thickest girls in Hongdae, rvlefty... they normally don't look like that. [Image: tongue.gif]

I'd highly advise against booking clubs unless you have a native Korean friend who can translate for you. The waiters drag the girls to tables, but you have to be pretty conversational to get them to drop their bitch shields. Conversely, if they're ugly or whatever you can tell them to fuck off, which is totally awesome by the way.

Try Itaewon like B1 or Octagon on the weekend. Really high level of talent.

I would smash both, boobs on the left barely, but the front zipper dress girl to me is hot.

I found another area in Hongdae with a bunch of clubs I wasn't aware of. More rnb type places. Opening is very intimidating here, it's hard to say why, maybe it's the language barrier.

Yeah I wouldn't go booking clubs unless I was with a translator, and only for the experience. It's basically paying someone to open for you. Though in some way I guess it's the same thing as speed dating. It's funny seeing the recruiters on the street find people, they hound them for a while and then lead them to a random unmarked SUV / Van parked on the street and drive off somewhere. Girls and guys. But I don't know any Korean dudes so I probably won't see it.

Thanks for the recommends on Itaewon. Is there a good mix of foreigners there?

I will probably be here 2 weeks. The good news is there's a lot of cheap airbnb places in Hongdae close to everything.

RVLefty: What kind of prices are you finding for hotel rooms? Is it a daily rate or a weekly rate or a monthly rate?

I'm just using airbnb since there are a lot of options way cheaper than hotels. Prices were around $55-$65 per night.
There seem to be a lot of hostels / guesthouses too where the prices are a little cheaper but you might be sharing a room and it's not private. I like my space and quiet.

If someone were to rent an apartment for a longer stay like a month or more I have heard it's very hard since it's likely a lot of the renters would speak zero English. An airbnb host might take a lowball offer if you were to book a longer stay, since it's guaranteed money and less hassle for them to book in/out new guests.

Restaurants here are very couplist. As in, some don't even have menu options that would make sense for 1 person. Here, have a burger for $14, by the way it's the size of a small pizza. What I do like though is a lot of the menus have special sets - here get a discount if you order these things together. I do a lot of pointing at pictures.

I got my first shush since I've been here. As in older person saying "shhh" which is apparently starting to say a swear but not saying the whole thing but it's still pretty much a swear. It was a guy at the 711 I've been to a few times before. He did it twice while I was going to buy water. I just smile and hand over my money with the appropriate arm touch and say thank you in Korean.

In the clubs here you just don't want to look at the floors ever. Covered in cigarette butts and lugies. I try not to think about it. Girls spit too sometimes which is... yeah. <gag>

Apparently a bunch of city districts removed all their trash bins so a lot of people just litter everywhere and everyone does it. Like walk out of a 711 unwrap a popcicle and throw the wrapper right on the ground while walking off.

The last couple days a part of me has been looking forward to going home. The heat here just makes it not enjoyable to go out and do stuff. Though I know once I get home I'll probably be even more depressed. I'm going to be staying with my parents in a small town while I decide what to do for work.

btw KoreanCupid is pretty terrible. The most number of scammers and fake profiles out of any of the asian dating sites and it's not even that busy.

You going to be there for long, rvlefty? I'm headed out to Seoul in a few weeks just for a long weekend. Gonna be staying at the park Hyatt in gangnam, let me know if you'll be in the area.

Damn, solid ass data sheet man. The emphasis on the differences in culture is great. This should help me a lot in my decision on where to teach English.

The game there doesn't really match my style, but I think anywhere in Asia I'd have to put in lots of work on the social circle aspect and night game.

You say day game is very difficult there. What style were you running. If a 6'2 220lb well dressed white dude asks them about a pet shop will they still think I'm a clown?

WC I may be a little bit out of the loop, but I thought that asking about the pet shop thing was only supposed to be done to precede a code handshake in order to figure out if someone that you do not know is a fellow RVF-er? I haven't read yet about how the code handshake goes, exactly... he he he

Edit: Oh from Booshala's later posting, I now see the pet shop opener can be used in a variety of contexts... I'll have to keep that in mind and look further into how it is used exactly, b/c it seems like a pretty good opener since many girls tend to have some interest in pets.. or it could spring board into a variety of interesting topics to keep things moving along.
