Seoul Data Sheet (Fall 2012)

Damn, solid ass data sheet man. The emphasis on the differences in culture is great. This should help me a lot in my decision on where to teach English.

The game there doesn't really match my style, but I think anywhere in Asia I'd have to put in lots of work on the social circle aspect and night game.

You say day game is very difficult there. What style were you running. If a 6'2 220lb well dressed white dude asks them about a pet shop will they still think I'm a clown?

You're going to have to tone it way down, WC. Lots of Koreans have this mentality that westerners and especially black people are more aggressive and (for the lack of a better term) animalistic than natives. A lot of local girls would get extremely intimidated by a big dude like you going up to them, even with something as innocuous as the pet shop opener.

If you must day game, I'd say play it extremely safe: open from at least five feet away, big smile and lighten your posture so you look as non-threatening as possible. Then again, there are so many English speakers in certain areas of Seoul that they might just answer in a flawless American accent. Just never know...

One of my buddies there was a huge bodybuilder type that would even freak out American girls but he found that opening girls by calling them "uhn-nee" in a high lilting voice and waving in the top-down Asian manner would dispel a lot of their fears and make them laugh. Hard to describe to a non Korean speaker but its basically the word for "older sister" when said by a younger female. The best opener that I've ever seen a foreigner use in Korea. Might wanna try during the day.

As for me, I mostly day gamed in myeongdong, a huge shopping district. Asked them in purposely broke ass Korean where something was... Never worked, Korean American guys have some notoriety for being cooze hounds and without alcohol it was too hard to break through.

Actually found that talking to the mass of Japanese girls who come to Seoul on weekend shopping trips to Myeongdong was actually much easier and I didn't have to fake being broke at Japanese to boot.

Damn man, I'll keep that in mind! When I was at school I noticed a lot more interest from Korean girls than Chinese or Japanese girls. If I ever did speak to them they did seem very intimidated. The exception were my roommates friends (I had 3 Korean roommates), they were always sweet, but they always seemed to be around when I had a girl over.

I thought I read some good things about Korea on the forum here but it keeps getting better.
Am dying to move to Seoul now to make more things happen.

@booshala- I have to second the praises of other folks here man. Absolutely solid write up.

@rvlefty- One thing to remember about Korea is how status conscious everyone is. I've had good experiences where someone of higher status (than myself and the girl) opened for me so it's not out of the question.

Side note- the absence of trashcans on the streets is, from what I understand, a way for the elderly to make an income from the government as custodians. Residents here are supposed to dispose of their trash in special bags- at a cost of 700 won or about 65 cents each where I used to live!

@western cancer- Am not sure about that kind of opener but someone like you will get attention if done right. You might get mistaken for a soldier but if you are dressed well it will usually tell a local girl that, unlike most soldiers (and English teachers for that matter) you actually give a damn about your appearance. It amazes me how much western guys here underestimate the importance of their appearance in Korea- going out in cargo shorts, t-shirts that are three sizes too big or in flip flops. All three even.[Image: dodgy.gif]

@booshala - Maybe just another week max I'll be here, depending on when I can find a cheap flight back home.

@glarkcable - Replace Korea with pretty much all of SEA for poorly dressed foreigners.

Useful site I've been reading - http://seoulistic.com/

Anyway, I went to Octagon and Holic last night in Gangdam. Long trip to get there from Hongdae, about a 45 min ride by subway which closes down just before midnight. Little different than the 5 minute walk to clubs here. People I asked said it might cost 35-40 bucks to get there by taxi. I imagine if you lived in between in Itaewon it would be about half. Cover for each place is 30,000 Won, or about $30 (ouch). Cocktails are expensive at $10 or $15, Coronas are $5. Partying here could be very expensive.

Octagon is huuuge. Could have 300 people total easy. But you won't see any flip flops or a lot of running shoes here like almost everyone in Hongdae. Super high jump in level of talent too. Girls would walk past and I would just freeze, holy shit, where the fuck did you come from...

I really liked this club. Not too packed too so there's actually room to get around. Decent ratio too early on as well, maybe even 1:1 but it got a little worse later. There is a small pool behind a bar but I didn't see any models swimming in it which apparently happens.

Koreans absolutely do approach here, there were a lot of pairs of dudes roaming around opening girls. The VIP tables are mainly on the second floor which is nice. I saw a lot of dudes open groups of 2-3 girls inviting them up to their table. When a guy pulled this in Holic the girls eye coded each other, when with him to the table, got a drink, and pretty much walked directly back to where they were hanging out before...

Taxi to Holic from Octagon was very cheap at $4 including tip, saves walking the 15 blocks (no traffic at 3AM). I tried to find Club 88 but someone said it was closed down. Big but not as big as Octagon. Spent a couple hours here and finally left at around 6:30AM. Still a decent number of people there and even a couple seemed to be just getting there from other places.

Last couple of a nights here has been a reminder of how much my game sucks. Phils made my game in one way a little bit worse given how easy it is to open girls there. You kind of have to be an approach machine here. If I had to rate the amount of IOIs in Westernland as 6/10, Phils would be 8/10, Japan would be a 2/10, SK being 2.5/10... Just means that I would have to step if up if I am serious about meeting girls here.

Your experiences reinforce my belief that SK is not a place to visit if hooking up with a K-girl is the main priority and you have only limited time. There's a post on ROK about getting laid in Korea, not sure if you have read it, but it also did not make it sound all that appealing. This is a shame because K-girls are sexy as hell.

I'd like to check out Seoul sometime in the fall if I get the chance; it's supposed to be pretty cheap from Japan.

I'm also interested in seeing how I'd do there as compared to Japan. I have to say Korean girls in Japan tend to react much warmer to me than the Japanese. Of course, I'd like to see S. Korea for other reasons, but it would be interesting for comparisson.

I've day-gamed fob Korean girls on the street or in stores in my city during the day time. I'm a tall, somewhat built white dude, and I could come off intimidating to some people. One of them was kind of startled and told me she never had a man approach her like that before.

I've gotten numbers and a few dates, but nothing seems to materialize. Korean women (from Korea) I've met generally seem pretty immature and prudish, hard to sleep with. Even ones up to their late 20s. Seems like that's pretty much the norm in Korea, huh? Unless I'm doing something wrong.

Has anyone ever gotten ONS in Korean nightclubs?

What's your city, GC, and is there a large Korean presence in that city? It's most likely going to make a difference - even from this thread, it appears that it makes a difference from what part of Seoul you are in.

I had this same problem/dilemmna too haha. I rarely day gamed, but from my experience, being Korean American never hurt me during night game and actually seemed to benefit me.

Sometimes I'd have a Korean wingman go approach a table of two girls and tell them that I'm Korean and couldn't speak English. Almost every time this would convert to them joining our table (to be fair, my buddies are quite socially intelligent conversationalists while unaware of "game"). Then I would just game my girl in English and she'd be relatively receptive although admittedly shy speaking English.

@Menace- I would have to agree with your belief. It isn't much worth the cost in effort unless you're willing to commit a decent amount of time as well.

I miss being surrounded by K-girls [Image: undecided.gif]

I would definitely agree from all that I've heard about Japan that Korea is generally cheaper for daily expenses.

I'm interested in seeing how I would do in Japan actually (of course, that wouldn't be the only reason I visit). I'd like to see how they react to Korean Americans. I was hitting up this Japanese foreign exchange student at a house party recently and she said that she's never met anyone who disliked Koreans, which honestly surprised me a little bit (for those who don't know, the two countries have this complicated rivalry).

Hallasan,

I get your point about your Korean ancestry not being a hindrance in Korea, and the introduction tactic of increasing your exotic value was probably a great opener, and in that regard, I believe that would be a good opener even if you had not been Korean-American... and merely someone who did not speak Korean but it does seem to make the situation a little more of a curiosity, puzzle and even a game for the Korean women to get involved in speaking with you and maybe attempting to find out your story about why you don't speak Korean.. and maybe even adding in some dumb messed up comments in purposefully bad Korean would get additional laughs out of them.

To be honest, if I were not Korean, I would have approached myself. It took a decent amount of effort to get my buddies to approach because Korean guys are often shy about approaching girls because of how unusual it is there.

I believe the girls were more interested in my physical appearance (I have a larger build than typical Korean guys and am fortunate to have a decent looking face) and less about curiosity. That's the impression I got, at least. You could be right though.

Purposelly speaking bad Korean would have been a display of low value in my opinion, and I always avoided it. If I was coming in with massive value/fame, then perhaps I'd incorporate it, but this was not the case for me while I was there.

Hallasan,

I cannot disagree with anything that you write b/c we each come to our own conclusions about the various motivating factors of the girl, and some times it can be really unclear about all of those circumstances, if you only have a short relationship with the girl, as to what motivated her in a certain direction.

I agree also, if you physically stand out in some quasi-positive way, then that can make matters progress much more smoothly in a direction favorable to you.

When I was in Korea, more than 10 years ago, I was teaching English, and i did not really like to go to bars - not sure why exactly - maybe I did not like the idea of the cover charge, which i believe was high even when I was there; however, i did notice that my whiteness got a lot of attention from all kinds of Koreans (b/c lets face it, even in Seoul, there is not a lot of diversity, mostly Koreans everywhere), especially more when I was off of the beaten path, sometimes negative attention but sometimes the curiousity of the differences just was a factor that sparked further interactions in circumstances that would not have occurred in locations in the US of A..

Though that does seem to be one of the benefits of travel, too, even in one's own country. For some reason, it seems that you become more exotic when you are traveling, even in domestic locations and other parts of one's own country. Travel definitely can become a talking point.

Manila and Seoul are fire and ice... it seems like you got a bit spoiled by the ease of approaching in SEA, rvlefty. I was in Bangkok a few weeks ago and it was much easier to approach girls at RCA who spoke broke ass Engrish than girls in Seoul where I share the same language, appearance and cultural background. Can imagine that it only gets harder if you're obviously foreign.

I heard that Octagon is still going strong although B1 has taken a lot of its thunder. I might also make it up to Hongdae and slum it a little with the end of month promotion they have at a lot of the clubs there.

I'm not surprised at all that your whiteness made you stand out and often was beneficial to you 10 years ago. That benefit though is declining fast as more and more Westerners move and visit the country.

I definitely encourage talk of traveling while doing so. I have to say, after being overseas for quite a while, I'm surprised by how uninterested in travel a lot of American girls are. [Image: undecided.gif]

Hallasan:
You may think it is beta of me; however, I frequently think about the plight of women (especially young attractive women), and i think, I sure am glad that I am not a woman. I mean this primarily in the context of being able to go out and about without feeling like a target. When I travel to various cities, frequently, I do not give considerable thought to whether it is safe or not, and frequently, I will go out at all times of the night without really thinking about it. I usually think that i am not really a target, and even if I were, I can fight anything off sufficiently. That may be a false sense of security, possibly?

Maybe in travel, there is a little bit of that kind of anxiety from women about concerns about whether they will be ale to protect themselves? However, at the same time, maybe a lot of that anxiety of travel is more hype than it is reality b/c probably American women could travel a lot more as singles than they do? they just believe all the crap that they see on TV, which half the time is completely divorced from real world living.. for example, violence is not nearly as prevalent as it seems to be depicted on TV.

When I lived in Seoul, for about 6 months, I felt totally safe, even when I was being seemingly angrily stared at by, usually, older Korean men. Whether or not those kinds of situations have changed in the past 10 years, may be worth a visit, to see how it seems, if different, or not. By the way, I worked in a private school (hagwan) teaching English to mostly younger Koreans in their 20s in the Kagnam area, which area seemed to have a few more foreigners than some of the other areas of Seoul or even the little travel that I did outside of Seoul, Maybe my tendency to not care about the stares of these Korean men, also, was a false sense of security?

Seoul Data Sheet (Fall 2012)

saw that this thread was getting a bit of traction again... So wanted to give all here an update on the status of Seoul in August 2013. I could go on and on about all kinds of things, but I'll keep it somewhat simple: Korea hasn't been an easy place to get laid in the past few years and its only gotten much harder in the past year.

Went back to Club Octagon (club referenced in my original post) which is still a top tier spot and saw so many hot native girls. I have to give it to them, they really work hard on their bodies now as well as their faces as many of them were showing off their tight asses and fake boobs. Also love how so many of them wear skin-tight dresses in white, something I rarely see in the states. You know those really hot 19 year old Latin American punk rock chicks that always wear skinny jeans and tanktops and have bodies that defy belief? I.e. very thin arms, and stomachs but with shapely legs and lots of chest and ass? Must've seen at least 50 girls that night with bodies like that. A couple of butter faces but mostly hot in that department as well.

The problem is that at the top echelons, there's no more scarcity in the Korean market to exploit. A traveler can go to world class Asian cities like bangkok, Tokyo and Beijing and have instant value by way of their foreign passport. Hot Korean girls - who once showed strong interest in foreign guys - have no incentive to give foreigners (and by extension) overseas Korean guys attention because all of their needs are now being met by native guys. In turn, native guys look really good and spend an inordinate amount of time on their looks, style and physiques.

I didn't realize this so much when I was in Seoul in early 2013, but shit has gotten out of control. I made at least 40 approaches during the night and I was shot down by all but three girls. Got two numbers and finally managed to corral a ONS Out of the third girl. She was obviously wasted but with 40+ approaches under my belt that night, I hung on to her like a life raft. Then again, she was a Korean from Kazakhstan, so I guess she doesn't count as a native either when I think about it.

Granted, a lot of the appraoches were on the dance floor and my buddy was being a Charlie Bravo by being too drunk, but I have never gotten such a pitiful ratio in my life in Seoul. In the glory days of the early 2000's, my close rate (whether bang, make out or number) was in the 70% range or so. Even in 2011, I could get 30-40% of the girls to at least give something. Now this bullshit...

Of course this is all anecdotal, but my friends who stay in Korea all confirm that the dating market for attractive girls has gotten exponentially harder. I probably need a couple more days to process the reasoning behind all of this, but I think I'm going to start looking at Indonesia, the Phillipines and maybe even Central Asia in the future for game trips overseas. Or perhaps try to go to a second tier korean city like Daegu or Busan, both known for their hot women.

Also beware of some increased xenophobia: one of my main openers is to purposely talk to native girls in English. Then, when they express embarrassment, I switch to the lingua franca and say I thought they were overseas Koreans by their appearance. It's been an effective way to drop bait about my background, getting conversation and interest out of it. About halfway through the night, I approach two really good looking girls in the indoor smoking room. I open them in english, and immediately am AMOG'd by two native guys who proceed to berate me for speaking English. I said something snappy in Korean and these guys (both over 6'2" and built) began to puff up and the bigger one started crowding me really close.

I am a shitty fighter, not in my element and these guys were obviously drunk and angry so I just moonwalked out of there as the barbacks started to intervene. Thankfully, I didn't get rolled up by those fools and admittedly, it probably wouldn't have been more than just a shoving contest, but again, I think this is somewhat indicative of how native guys are really trying to protect access to the most coveted girls.

Booshla,

I kept thinking about what you said in the post above, and you seem to be communicating that you are getting the sense that the exotic value of foreigners is becoming really low in Korea.

In this regard, are you saying that it would not make much of a difference whether you play night game or day game or use your position (are you an English teacher or what is it that you do exactly?). I mentioned before that I was an English teacher in Korea - actually it was in 1996, and generally, i was of the impression that foreign english teachers were respected... teachers in general were respected too, part of the culture. Therefore, if you were a teacher then you play that angle to get various introductions to various Korean women.. but it appears that times may have changed so much and so quickly that the Korean women no longer seem to be interested in foreigners.. whether you are a teacher or not.. and maybe you would only have DHV if you were working in a well-paid business?

Also, I was of the impression that, even in recent times (mostly from what i have been reading, rather than personal experience) that Korean society remains rather conservative, and accordingly, there is a certain percentage of Korean women that want to escape that conservative social structure in order that they would potentially be treated with more freedom if they were able to get away from Korean men. Isn't there some of that desire of Korean women to escape from the conservative Korean society and escape from Korean men that is going to create some exotic value for the foreigners?

Seoul Data Sheet (Fall 2012)

I had a couple of days last month in Seoul - my observations:

- great quality of girls during the day in Gangnam, Itaewon and Hongdae!
- girls are much more pale skinned than I thought (or like) but that is the ideal beauty here
- I went to Glam Lounge http://www.mydestination.com/seoul/night...am-lounge# and nearby Prost one night
- quality was ok and girls were very open, stylish bar with affordable drinks
- did daygame in coffee shops in Hongdae and malls (Time Square)
- girls were rather easy to open and quality was great
- most girls spoke a bit of English (speak slow and have Google Translate open and ready)
- if I got a number they did respond to my texts but was only able set up one date from these numbers (only had a couple of days)

Compared to Japan I found it much easier. I had a number of Korean girls outside of Korea. My style seems to appeal with them (but not with Eastern Europeans for instance). Although you have a language barriers I find it much easier and rewarding than in the US. However it's not as easy as in South East Asia where you can bang a girl from the mall in 2 hours. That won't happen in Korea.

Came home with one bang from daygame and one from nightgame. Happy.

You said they like your style. What is your style exactly? Are you blonde as well?

I haven't really shared my experience yet, but I was over there recently. I laid three Korean girls, two of them were 5-6s, nothing to brag about. But I pulled a personal 8ish back to my hotel on the first date and nailed her. Met her online a few months before I went there.

I really enjoyed it there. I'll be going back eventually.

Figured I'd bump this.

After I relocate to China, I plan to take monthly weekend trips to Seoul to game K girls, if my visa allows it.

I plan to utilize online pipelining, and long day game and club game sessions in Gangnam/other areas.

Are there usually dirt cheap flight deals from China to Seoul to be had? I noticed flights usually cost about $300, which isn't bad at all, but maybe there are cheaper alternatives.

Also, any advice as to how to best use my time there so I can pull quickly?

Yes, spend your time in Hongdae. It is the artsy area of Seoul, and is where all the university students hang out. It makes Seoul one of my most favorite cities in the world. Not only are there tons of chicks, and I mean TONS, but they are the more open, ´liberal´girls so to speak, but really, ONS are not that difficult to come by in Korea. Or at least there is not really any stigma agaisnt it. Anyway, Hongdae is super rad and you will have a blast. Korean women really are incredibly good looking.
