Remember that Monterreys overzealeous conservative (female) mayor is shutting down bars at 2:00 AM, so plan ahead and lock down a girl by 1, or move to greener pastures in San Pedro.

I wonder what would the conservative RVF members think about this...

Sounds like your bud is danger. Stay away from him and go your own way. Hit Centrito in Valle area or Recontra-Cantinita around the Tec area tonight.

If he "got popped" for a felony he probably did twenty. Or a hundred.
Not a good idea to hang with.

You're going all around Mexico, aren't you? Good luck and have fun in your trip! How long will you be there for?

Driving through Veracruz state is okay during the day. Saw a lot of Feds and crossed two Army checkpoints. At one Marine checkpoint, I literally saw 70 feds in 5 minutes. For every action there is a reaction.

Got stuck in traffic between Veracruz and Villahermosa. When I say stuck I mean 3 hours to get through 30km. There are huge teachers protest right now. Been going on for 2 weeks I heard. They are blocking interstate roads. The Road from DF to Villahermosa was block for 8 hours before it was cleared. I think the protest are only in Veracruz state. Didn't hear anything on CNN otherwise I would have made the trip.

Finally make it out the traffic mess and was on the road around 1130pm. The South is somewhat safe. The Federal road had no checkpoints or Feds so I thought I was good. Some kids tried to run up on us but we sped through. The roads are pretty empty. Truckers are sleeping because of the protest I think. Suddenly, we are crossing under a bridge going 80MPH and a flightlight flashed us. I started to trip. It was about 1am. Was constantly looking for somebody to pull behind us. I thought he was a spotter. Didn't see a walkie or cell. Sped crazy with another two sedans till we hit the city.

The day before we started the trip, my buddy ran into a friend. She told us that this year she was riding from the Victoria area back to Brownsville during the day. A spotter was taking pictures of vehicle. She was in a white newer model Tahoe. The spotter ran to the walkie and they thought they were going to get followed. They sped through for a few hours. The next day, the news reported 5 people knocked off in a white Tahoe. Good thing they didn't get caught up too because even if it was the wrong people they still could have been killed. That story was fresh in my mind.

As soon as you hit Villahermosa, straight money. Most hotels were 120-250USD. I felt safe enough to sleep in my car in a parking lot. No cars on the road except taxis. We spoke to a driver and found a spot for 450 pesos.

Glad that shit is over. Never been that terrified in my life. I have been to border towns at 2am, Monterrey centro at 3am, Iraq convoys, South Central LA at night in the 90's, Algiers New Orleans when we were the murder capital in the late 90's, Southeast Houston, Favelas in Rio.

Maybe it wasn't a spotter. Who knows but I know I wont be driving past 12am in Mexico ever again.

^^^^ Wow you got balls my man. Driving in the east coast of Mexico whether its Tamaulipas, or Veracruz, especially Tamaulipas is very dangerous. That's Zetas/Gulf cartel haven right there. Do you see the the shaded gray in the upper right hand corner of Mexico in the map? That't the gulf cartel's territory which is deep in red-zeta territory which covers the whole state of Tamaulipas. The whole state is a total war zone and driving through there would be considered almost suicide. The bus massacres that happened a few years ago happened in that area, and Tamaulipas and Veracruz are notorious for car-jacking, especially northern Veracruz. Even im scared to go there, much less drive. Take care man and be safe.

Yeah, shit is still goin down over there. Mexico is no fuckin joke, from what I read. Then again, statistically speaking you should be fine. Also, even if a cartel member or anybody catches a foreigner/american, their orders are generally not to hurt em. Bad for tourist business... but anything is possible I guess... Especially with the Zetas.. they make their own rules.

We got alot of shit because my buddy looks like a zeta because of his tats. He has one on his neck also. Once we made Villahermosa everything as safe. I am at the Belize/Mexico border town now. Just got back from the stip club. Very safe here. I will make another trip next month. As long as I am not driving after midnight. I feel good.

How is rolling well dressed to a club in a city like GDL?

I'm going to be heading there in a week or two. I'll heed the advice and take a taxi as much as possible.

Shouldn't have any problems if you're talking about taking a taxi to somewhere like Chapultepec. There's people out walking on the streets everywhere and it feels safe. Even dressed up I don't think you'll have much to worry about.

just spent 3 and a half months in mexico. CHapultepec part of Guadalajara feels SOOOOO safe at night. I walked around that area at night all the time. I spent time on the border which was shady at times and in a city known for being full of narcos in Michoacan for 5 days. While I was in Michoacan there was a cartel vs. feds war going on and the some navy admiral was assassinated. I partied with Narco's and there was no problems. If you don't go looking for trouble it's really not as bad as you think, but you still have to be careful around the narcos. I also spent 4 days in centro historico in mexico city. It felt more dangerous there than guadalajara. Guadalajara felt ridiculously safe to me. (although you can go to dangerous parts and i did). All in all there was not one dangerous run in that I had in Mexico in 3 and a half months and I wasn't exactly playing it safe. I ran into a ton more trouble in colombia and venezuela.

In GDL, as long as you arent in the airport area then you are straight. From what I was told, the northside is where the shit happens. My buddy was robbed at gunpoint and by knife that the ATM there. Both were at night and he was by himself. He was stupid but he didnt know the city at the time.

IMO Mexico dangerous parts are like America dangerous parts. You can party in the hood and have no trouble. Just be smart. There are probably four or five places in the US I would never party because they kill for no reason, other than that you get murdered because you give them a reason.

Driving through Mexico again. Headed to Belize. First, shout out to Tmobile for being a trendsetter with there free international text messaging and data plan. No more sim cards for me. If you move around alot, Tmobile is the place to be at the moment. Of course, the other three will probably follow suit so you may be able to stand pat.

We cleared the border at seven this morning. As soon as we are about to clear the border town we get popped by police. 20 USD. Tried to give him a ten and he said no. Handed the money to him slowly. He was looking around nervously.

So far so good. Roads are clear. Should be in Tampico by 1300. Probably drive through the night this time.

Friday and Saturday night is Battle of the Drums in Belize. It will be crazy. I'll be down there for ten days so Ill drop a datasheet this time.

WiFi calls to the US are free. 20¢ min for local calls. All other international rates aply. Remember you have the over data apps anyway to make a call.

Taking the bus to Monterrey tonight. Driving to mcallen now. The buses leave for Monterrey every 90 minutes. About a five hour trip so if I catch the 800 should be there around one. Probably stay at some cheap spot or at a buddys spot.

Wondering if I can hit the bars tonight or just wait till tomorrow. I fucked up by leaving so late. O well.

And its raining there.

Viva Mexico.

Hey TexasMade. Do you have any information on which bus lines or express buses to take to Mexico?. Ill be in McAllen next week and staying there for a week. Then my plan is to go to Mexico (Zacatecas) by bus and taking one from McAllen. Any idea on how to go about getting a bus down there or which bus stations to go to or bus lines to take? Thanks in Advance.

I caught a Greyhound. They partner with a mexican bus line for destinations in Mexico. Once you arrive in Monterrey you will have a million choices as the stations in Mexico are like airports, with all the companies in one big station. Primera Plus is REALLY nice. You got your own LCD TV with free movies on each seat. Plus girls and guys bathrooms in the back.

Take a bus to monterrey then one to zacatecas, i don't think there are many buses that have a McAllen-Zaca route, and the ones that do are shitty and expensive. Take a McAllen-Monterrey bus, then switch to Monterrey-Zacatecas (people call it Zacatuercas).

Normal bus lines (2-2 seat config, more buses, cheaper):

Futura, Primera plus, Transportes del Norte, Chihuahuenses, estrella blanca, Onmibus de Mexico, Omnibuses Mexicanos (in the US)

Luxury bus lines (wifi, reclining seats, 2-1* seat configuration coffee/water on-board, make no stops, 10-22% more expensive):

Enlaces Terrestres Nacionales (ETN), Turistar, Omnibus de Mexico Plus

By seat configuration, the regular buses have two seats on each side of the aisle. Luxury buses have an aisle, two huge seats to the left and one single seat to the right.

My preference goes for luxury buses as there are less people, they got wifi, and some now got power outlets. My vice is to take pictures while on the road. Don't take a bus to zacatecas from the US, they are mostly small companies with sketchy buses that breakdown. Mexican bus companies have the most efficient fleet in the world (time-wise).

^^Straight money^^

Other than that, McAllen has one Bus terminal. As soon as you enter, you will be able to figure out which line to use. I use PanAmericanias??? or something to that effect. Its $26 to Monterrey. Once you hit Monterrey, get another bus from there. There are literally 30 different lines at the Monterrey terminal. Remember do not get off the first stop.

Also, I wouldn't walk around the bus terminal area at night. They rob people in that area. Knifepoint though so it's not too bad. Either way you want to keep your phone and money.

Remember to hit Cigar Bar up in McAllen. Good luck and smash some ass. I may hit Monterrey for the New Year. Let me know if you are in the area.
