Bump the DC thread. I've been in the area for about 6 months and I go out a lot. Who else is in DC? I got some nice spots figured out now. I don't want to blast them on the internet just yet. Let's talk - I am a serious hunter / venue changer. I don't loiter around and wait for the girls to show up.

THE LEGEND OF COOL "DISCO" DAN
Screening in DC this Wednesday!

Pump Me Up The Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Legend of COOL “DISCO” DAN tells the story of Washington, D.C., in the 1980s through the eyes of D.C. graffiti legend COOL “DISCO” DAN. Narrated by D.C. native Henry Rollins, this feature documentary offers the most comprehensive portrait to date of this critical decade, including the development of Go-Go, racial tensions, crews, sensationalist media, and crack—as well as D.C.’s vibrant graffiti culture. Graffiti historian Roger Gastman (curator of Pump Me Up: D.C. Subculture of the 1980s) and filmmaker Joseph Pattisall introduce their documentary and answer questions afterwards.

Panelists include Trouble Funk’s “Big” Tony Fisher, Rare Essence’s Andre “Whiteboy” Johnson, longtime Washington music writer Mark Jenkins, former D.C. Police detective Donald “Goose” Gossage, and Gangster George, a former member of the Gangster Chronicles crew.

It's a good datasheet, but it is definitely geared toward the <27 crowd and dance scene.

Also, if I read correctly, the OP is a salsero, so that's going to play a huge part in his choice of venues and success. I have no doubt he killed it while living here, as most guys here can't dance. Hell, they can barely dress and have no style -- that's for sure. We all know that chicks love to dance and salsa is a damn good way to DHV to the ladies.

Which reminds me, I need to go sign up for those salsa lessons cause I'm tired of only just knowing the basics.

Thanks for the datasheet!

Yeah the Salsa scene helped out ALOT. I dont think any girl of any ethnicity ever turned me down ongoing out dancing. If they are a beginner they will drink out of nervousness. Even facebook gaming, got me higher talent by using salsa as leverage. It helped alot man. It almost became a crutch, it worked so well.

For pure salsa dancers, your best bets are (in this order) 1. Habana Village any day of the week, 2. Clarendon Grill on Monday, 3. Lucky Bar on Monday. Every place else has a bit of a mixx of salsa and other kinds of music. I basically stopped dancing salsa when I moved here because the girls here couldn't follow me anywhere near as well as they can in New Jersey, Miami, New York, and Los Angeles. If a place in the D.C. area doesn't play at least 50% merengue and bachata, it's really of no use to me.

Thing I don't like about Habana Village is that it's a pain in the ass to get to...I mean you pretty much need to drive because Adams Morgan metro is not that close. I was there once and quality was nothing special, maybe 1-2 legit cuties, i.e. typical DC. Is bachata easier to learn?

Quality is poor in Habana Village, but it is also poor in the other two places I mentioned. As far as I can tell, those are the only three venues in the area where they play almost exclusively salsa.

In my opinion, it is much easier to learn than both salsa and merengue, but some people still have trouble with it. I don't know anyone who is good at either salsa or merengue who has trouble with bachata.

Yes. Saturday is the big night there. They open up the other room which normally functions as a restaurant on Saturday. Friday is the only other good night there, although the other room isn't open. A few years back, they put a stage in the middle of the dancefloor in each of the two rooms. This was incredibly stupid in my opinion. All it did was make the place feel more cramped and give people less room to dance. Also around that time, the place started to decline a bit. In about 2010 or so, they started doing advertising with El Zol, which to me was a telltale sign that their business had declined. Before that, the place was so packed every weekend that there was really no need to do any kind of advertising. That being said, as far as I know it's still going strong. Maybe you went by too early. It generally doesn't pick up until at least 12:00 or 12:30. I had a missed call on my phone the other day from some girl who works there, so when I call her back, I will ask her how the place is right now. If the information I have posted is at all inaccurate, I will report back.

Cool, thanks man. I've been to Galaxy on a Sunday a while back and Coco on a Saturday and they were cool. You do get a range in those spots. From wack chicks to those few who look like they have no business being in there (in a good way). Haven't been in a while though b/c no one I know feels like going to those spots and I'm not always in the mood to go dolo.

Side note: not to beat a dead horse b/c we all know DC is trash but one thing I'm starting to notice is (tell me if I'm going crazy) having a co-sign means a lot in DC. Women who wouldn't give you the time of day if you met them on the random by yourself are COMPLETELY different if you have a mutual friend and meet through them. It's like night/day. Too bad I don't like my co-workers enough to hang with them and all my friends moved away.

I'm plotting my escape from this city. When I think about the warm reception I get in other cities compared to being treated like a second class citizen in DC, it's not fair to myself to stay here.

Probably 99% of the guys in the D.C. area wouldn't want to go to those spots. They're not for everybody. I know exactly what you are talking about with regard to the girls who look like they have no business being in there (in a good way). I've met girls there who I doubt I would meet anywhere else in the D.C. area. Most of the good quality I have met there either just got in a fight with their husbands or boyfriends or just recently broke up with their boyfriends or husbands. The volume in Coco is so high that even if 95% of the girls in the place are a total bust, the other 5% makes the place more than worthwhile.

The next time I go to Coco, I will P.M. you. I doubt it will be in the next month, because my practice is picking up again and I have a lot of things going on right now, both good and bad.

I went to the ASW event in Georgetown at L2 Lounge tonight. Dope venue and dope clientele. It was some fly international shit. There was definitely talent. I bagged some pretty cool girls who were nothing like the DC garbage that gets talked about so much. This ASW network is a good look. But I don't want to gas it up. I have a lot of fun in DC because I travel so much now and don't really give a fuck about what happens here. I'm not as outcome dependent as I used to be. That attitude goes a long way for my overall game.

That is the same attitude I had my last three years in Southern California.

That is what enabled me to get thru it.

Sorry if I missed it earlier in the thread but what is ASW?

I was at L2 once before and was very impressed with the talent but if I understand correctly its a private club and not open to the general public very often.

ASW = A Small World, kind of an exclusive social network. I'm pretty sure it's invite only from existing members. That's the only way they can have higher caliber talent without being overrun with thirsty DC dweebs.

Yes. Their website is asmallworld.net. It is invite-only and they decided in February to cap enrollment and absolve members of invite privileges in order to, in their words, "preserve the integrity of the community." I'm not sure when or if they'll change their minds on that. It's best feature IMO is the geolocator tool which lets you find members who are living or visiting different world cities. From Abu Dhabi to Moscow to Dubai or Rio there is an ASW network. Many of the girls are pretty fly and the dudes seem like they got the lifestyle thing down.

Funny descriptions of DC neighborhoods in the context of friends.

ADAM MORGAN
He's a cool, laid back guy - knows how to have a good time. Loves his curries, sushi and his tacos - and loves washing them down with copious amounts of beer even more.

Adam's always had a lot going for him - A good-looking mixed race kid of Ethiopian and Salvadorian ancestry.. Unfortunately, in his desire to become more corporate - more American - he's slowly turned his back on the very things that made him so likeable. He lost the accent, bought a million-dollar condo, and stopped frequenting his favorite bodegas and holes in the walls. Many of our old friends have caught onto his pretensions and stopped visiting.

In their place he's found some new friends. I've seen t him spending more time with the Hipsters in recent days - lots of ironic T-shirts, Converse low tops and fedoras floating around lately... He's picked up a pretty bad cocaine habit at some point so there's also a surprising number of thugs hanging about ready to supply.

I still visit him from time to time - we'll occasionally grab a bourbon and reminisce about the bad old days. Deep down I think we both know things aren't the same and I can't help but feel that we're drifting apart..

GEORGETTE TOWN
Georgette's a beautiful girl and God does she know it.. A trust-fund baby that's had money for so long she's lost sight of how much things should reasonably cost.. I've watched her casually spend 40 dollars on parking, a couple of hundred on a bottle of mediocre wine, and 5 bucks for a dry cupcake.

She does have a certain overindulged charm, but she spends so much time admiring her own gorgeous reflection in antique mirrors that I sometimes feel she's grown out of touch with the rest of us.

She votes liberal, but maintains conservative tastes. Ms. Town's long since given up on work and instead spends her days in and out of boutiques (though her favorite Arab rag merchants have long since lost their leases and fucked off). It's been observed that she wipes her ass with silk - Hermes scarves might be closer to the mark.

She drives a BMW, and sometimes a Benz, but only the C class. It's easier to parallel park in her neighborhood and she comes from money old enough that she doesn't have to impress anyone.

YUSETTE REET
The freshman wall flower has certainly blossomed into a popular senior. She worked hard to reinvent herself - got a complete makeover and is suddenly the talk of the town... I can recall at time when she mostly rolled with crackheads, crack dealers, and the occasional ex-con-turned Muslim. These days I see her in the company of lawyers, journalists, professors, and consultants with impossible to comprehend job descriptions. I raise my glass to the local girl made good - she deserves her success.

CHIN A. TOWN
His parents might be proud. He certainly made very lucrative choices with the real estate he inherited - sold nearly all of their properties to the highest bidder. So now, in place of Chinese Medicine stores with endless cabinets of dried ginseng, grasshopper legs and wolfberries there now stands the Verizon Center, H&M and Hooters. Chin seems satisfied with his decision, but I think we can all agree that we've lost something special.

CHEVY CHASE
We've all got friends that we only see once a year- almost to remind ourselves just why we no longer keep in touch. Mr. Chase is as lacking in charisma and flavor as the actor of the same name... It doesn't help matters that his place is a super pain in the ass to get to owing to the epic traffic up Wisconsin Ave.

BROOKE LAND
A sleepy old gal that who's best days are admittedly behind her. She'll still occasionally make it out to hang out with the Catholic U kids or the odd blue collar city employee, but for the most part she's home by nine. She's Baptist living in the shadow of the largest Catholic church in DC.

HOWARD SHAW
Gotta hand it to my boy, he never sold out. He might not have done as well on the back of real estate speculation as his neighbors, but he definitely kept it real. Still rolls with HBC crowd and still likes his Mumbo Sauce Carryouts, Gogo spots, and on the odd night when the mood takes him, he still hits up the Penthouse. Salt of the earth dude without a hint of pretention and I love him for it.

MONSIEUR DUPONT
I've always been of the opinion that there's a difference between gay and flamboyantly, balls out, attention-seeking flaming.. As of late Monsieur Dupont seems to be achieving a more comfortable balance between the two.

CAPT. HILL

A dignified old gentleman - can be a bit of a blowhard, constantly pushing his own political agenda, but that's part of his charm. He'll occasionally meet you for a liquid lunch or an after-work pint at an Irish pub, but God help you if you call on him after midnight.

DAWN TOWN
Georgette's little sister still lives close by. She's always been a touch more serious - more businesslike, than her free spending sibling - prefers business suits and happy hours to dinner drinks.

yelp.com, prince of petworth blog, or going out guide. It's really not that hard... I'd say it's easier than ever to figure out where the hot new spots are.

That being said since theres so many new places opening and the shift to whats "cool" now east of 14th street it's really dilluted the talent everywhere. People just don't stay put in one place for long anymore and the choices are daunting.

The city is rapidly shifting from the nerdy policy hipster, urban adventurer, early adopter gentrifier, scene that Roosh and friends spent so much time writing about to something aking to Manhattan lite where the focus seems to have switched from partying to fine dining and expensive shit.

Five or six years ago the city was viewed by the yuppie crowed as some sort of dangerous, exotic locale, that you only visted via cab or before or after Capitals games for bar crawls. You could actually use this to your advantage by being the cool connected guy who lived in the city. If you can believe it - girls that I would take out on dates to Saint Ex used to get their minds blown and panties wet by this "exotic danger" in this crazy place called 14th St that they had never been to. He'll I think Rooshv used to DJ at Saint Ex back when it was stabby mcrapeville. Now those same people are the ones moving into those 1.2M dollar lofts and shopping at organic dog treat bakeries.

Also, the new trend of everthing being a cocktail lounge fucks up the pussy chasing game a bit. It's a lot harder to mack when everyone is seated eating tapas an drinking vs standing around drinking. It does help out the date venue selection, but there's a chicken and egg thing going on with this.

You'll just have to start hitting up as many venues from yelp as you can and hopefully you'll figure out one that clicks. Make sure to honestly evaluate the scene you roll in and the types of women you are looking to meet. Ie dont' show up in a suit and tie to Lost and Found looking for club hoes and don't be dissapointed when it turns out Masa 14 has a long line and no indie rock chicks.
