I'm going to Vegas in a few weeks with my father.

We'll be there from the 2nd to the 6th.

Can you guys recommend a hotel that is a little slower and quieter?

There's all these new places, but I think with my pops I should find something a little more old school.

Aloha!

The Wynn has been pretty laid back everytime I've been there. Also, old people 60+ seem to have some sort of connection with the Mirage and the Flamingo (though I don't know if that is still open).

Yeah, Wynn or maybe Caesars. Venitian also. Stay away from Palms and Hardrock (Ed Hardy ground zero).

Plus Caesars has Joe's Stone Crabs (which are in season) which is my favorite place to eat lunch in all of Las Vegas.

Also, if you want mad old-school, go to Bininons. But I have never been.

G, is that the same as the one in Miami?

The websites confuse me.

And thanks for the info everyone. I didn't hit KL, Hibachiwoj, but my trip was fantastic. Fished the shit out of Kinabalu. Bali was sick I'll put up some info.

Kona,

Yeah, its super confusing. I think how it breaks down is the original in South Beach is independently owned.

The Vegas one and I think one in Chicago (I am going off memory here) are owned by the restaurant group Lettuce Entertain you.

I think the original leased out the concept, or was owners of the other two for a while and now is not.

Bottom line, the Vegas one gets their stone crabs shipped in daily. The place isn't cheap, but super good.

Mahalo for the info. So I eat there once, and L&L the rest of the time! I just read that Vegas has a bunch of them. Bizarre.

I was at The Hotel a few months ago and that's where I'm staying again. I got two side by side rooms for $110 ea. They were really good to me the last time.

Kona,

What's your take on L&L?

"I was at The Hotel a few months ago and that's where I'm staying again. I got two side by side rooms for $110 ea. They were really good to me the last time."

Simply can't beat that. Those rooms where like $325 back in '07.

L&L has the best Loco Moco in the world. I had an ahi katsu plate for lunch today.

They have over 100 restaurants in CA from what I've just read. Everyone should check them out. It's good to see a local company doing so well on the mainland.

Here in Hawaii they drop the "Hawaiian Barbeque" and just call it L&L Drive In.

It's kind of hit or miss. Some of them are always really good and some of them are consistently shitty. The ones in the hood (Kalihi, Waipahu, Waianae) are excellent, whereas the ones where the rich folks, like the guys that started L&L, live (Kahala, Hawaii Kai) are awful.

I've only been to one outside of Hawaii, and that was in AM Samoa. At that one they had no Loco Moco at breakfast so I had teri beef saimin which was just as good as it is here.

I go to the Haleiwa L&L at least once a week. Their stuff is always good, and they're a franchise. When Barack Obama was here a few weeks ago he came to The North Shore for a day. The Haleiwa L&L catered a lunch wherever he was. I've heard him say he's a Zippy's guy though.

One of the guys who started L&L has a daughter that is a Honolulu nightlife princess. She carries a chihuahua around. The L&L people give a ton to local charities. They are always having days where they are selling plates for $1 island-wide and then give all the sales to something like Goodwill.

I like L&L.

Aloha!

Kona,

Nice data sheet.

I like L&L and need that local knowledge on the place.

I feel even better about patronizing them now: "The L&L people give a ton to local charities. They are always having days where they are selling plates for $1 island-wide and then give all the sales to something like Goodwill."

People's Champs.
