Five guys take same photo for 30 years

I thought this was a pretty cool thing. In the spirit of not bitching about bitches in every thread, I'm not going to say: how women couldn't do this because they would attention-whore it somehow or their friendships aren't as enduring; how women would have aged much worse; or how these guys had the worst jump between 1997 and 2002, probably because of their wives.

It's just kinda cool.

Five guys take same photo for 30 years
By Kelly Andersen, Special to CNN

(CNN) -- When five teenagers sat down and posed for a picture at Copco Lake in 1982, they didn't plan on making it a tradition. But that's what it became.

Every five years for the past three decades, John Wardlaw, John Dickson, Mark Rumer, Dallas Burney and John Molony have been meeting at the California lake and taking the same photo.

The first photograph of the high school friends was just happenstance. Wardlaw, known as Wedge in the group, had a family cabin at the lake where the friends gathered in July 1982.

....

"We plan on doing this for the rest of our lives, no matter what," said Dickson. "Up until there's one guy just sitting in the same pose! Even then, maybe someone will take a picture of an empty bench for us."

Pretty cool idea, it looks like they aged a shit ton between 2007 to 2012, strangely they don't look like they aged at all from 2002 to 2007, I guess most guys hit the wall pretty hard in their forties.

It's like with women. A woman at 30 has not, as is widely claimed, hit the wall. Lots of girls are very attractive at 30. It just seems that way, because by the time she's 35, she's out of the game.

For men, 40 has always been the "over the hill" themed birthday party. It's not that 40 is horrible. It's that 40 is the big decline for men, and 45 is the wall.

That's why guys in their 30s needs to start taking anti-aging strategies, and this must continue in earnest in one's 40s.

Time waits for no man.

But a guy can "push back" aging by 5-10 years.

lol at the second guy from the left, how can he go from looking like he did in 1992 to looking so awful just 10 years later in 2002?

Do you guys think their aging is typical of most males? Or is it worse than most males? Or better?

That's why i'm saying 5 more years of fun, hope and dreams. By the time i'm 40 I will probably settle down. People around me want me to settle down and stuff but i'm just not ready. Unless i can score my salsa teacher (who looks interested but is in a relationship)

With the exception of the guy second from left, they have aged pretty well. None of them have become seriously overweight or lost all their hair. According to the article, they are around 19 in the first pic and thus around 49 in the most recent one.

I agree that they have aged noticeably in the last two pics - between 44 and 49. Take the better looking guys aged 39-44, give them decent clothes and some game and they could score a nice woman. At age 49 though it's going to be tough.

Interestingly, the article mentions that none of them have children.

These guys looked much cooler back in 1982. Why is that?

Many possible reasons, aside from aging.

I believe that 1970s were a good decade for men, aside from all the feminist shit. Men hit their stride in a big way (many great male actors in the 1970s).

The best Camaro is the 1979 one.

Men peacocked liked crazy and were rewarded for it. (this is a sign of runaway evolution).

This will make a great movie eventually, complete with tear-inducing moments as the first photo is taken with a gap after a death in the group...

Hopefully I can get away with that breakdown in my 40s. I have a few people in my family with the baby face symdrome in their late 40s and they look about 10 yrs younger.

the 2 guys on the right went from young looking in 2007 to old looking in 2012. what changed is the hair and skin mostly.

the second guy from the left went from looking young in 1997 to old in 2002 back to young in 2007 and back to old in 2012. style, hair and skin make the difference

I wonder if its worth it. Im sure it takes a good 5-10 years off a person's life and how much do things really change?

Pretty cool, they look exactly the same from '02-'07 which is kind of weird. Really cool idea though.

First thought I had browsing the series of pictures as well. Age wasn't as kind to that dude, as it was to a few of the others.

Reminds me of this video, in which a dude takes a picture of himself every day for several years:

I think these guys are pretty typical. Some of them have aged a little better then others. They did go from 19 to 49 so they are bound to look different.

Getting old sucks. Youth is such a powerful thing and most of us don't appreciate it until its gone. I take anti-aging very seriously. I'm in my mid 30's and I'm trying to bang every young girl I can because I know I only have a few good years left. Fuck!!!

Taking care of yourself and avoiding stress is about all you can do.

These guys are actually probably better than most, they all have their hair and aren't fat but it would be hard to imagine any of them in the last pic banging youngish girls. Guys have this belief that old guys will look like Clooney but the reality is more depressing.

Its funny nobody picked out the two things IMO probably aged them 10 fold from 97-2002

The Dot Com bubble:

These guys are from Cali I am assuming. And most likely worked in fields in or related to the Dot-Com field if they are all from the Bay/NorCal areas. This was probably when their stress peeked, after their money peeked in 1997. They look the most happy in there facial features then.

9/11

IT fucked up a lot of Americans and also was the official end to Dot-com leading to a recession again another factor of money and stress that probably tweaked these guys out a bit.

If you look like this guy in your 60s and have some money, style and swag, you can probably still pull some 40 something chics.

Some women in that age group are still decent. Sandra Bullock, J. Lo, Mariah Carey. Who wouldn't bang women like that? Tenderman can weigh in heavy on this topic I'm sure.

Don't fret so much about aging or anything else inevitable. It is what it is and the right guy will always be able to find attractive women.

Honestly, the aging thing is so interesting. I go home and friends that are the same age as me look horrible.

I read a Tom Robbins book a long time ago and in it the main characters don't age, the biggest thing that kept them young was their mental state. That stuck with me. In it he says most people age because they EXPECT to. I think that is probably the most powerful anti aging thing you can do. Mentally stay young.

For example, I read a memory book and in it the guy describes a technique where he will associate someones name with an outlandish image based on the most noticeable feature on a person's face. The "work" it takes to make the association is what makes the memory last. But what was interesting to me was that he comments on childrens' ability to come up with the most outlandish associations much more quickly. This stuck with me as just an example of keeping your mind strong and youthful.

But no matter how you look at it, you can clearly see something way more important in these photos that goes beyond the game.
