Really nice thread, and you've given me some motivation to start approaching again. I haven't approached in the 3 months since I've been back from Colombia... it spoiled me. The conversation never really lagged ,but then I am skilled at keeping a conversation going. I kinoed her a bit and was surprised she kinoed me back frequently and was giving me reasonably good body language. The typical mixed signals situation. After reading this thread, I know I've got to get out of Northern California. Hearing about these aggressive women on the east coast is really very intriguing.
I used to go out to the bars in SF with a guy who was the spitting image of a 30-something Brad Pitt - probably the best looking guy I've seen in the city - and he didn't get opened as much in one week as Mr. XY seems to get opened every night.

I do think my looks play some part as well-i stay fit and am often told i am good looking-although I'm sure I don't have "male model" level of looks. I also have a rather uncommon(for here at least) hair and beard style which attracts a lot of positive attention. The key to getting a younger girl is for her not to feel you are too much older than she is. So you have to treat her as a sort of equal. It also helps to dress and act younger, which I do.
