The worst danger in Eastern Europe would be having a run-in with the many shaved headed, disenfranchised, uneducated, jealous, xenophobic young men who infest the region. Generally not a problem if you're white and can blend in, but there's been plenty of instances of East Asians, South Asians, Blacks, and even Southern Europeans (e.g. Italians) getting jumped outside of bars/clubs.

The local guys know the track record guys like us have with the local girls and don't like it one bit, I can assure you that.

Kindredspirit, any comments on gaming in EE in the off season (winter)? Is there any advantages? I think the disadvantages are clear.

I tend to think that just before winter hits (e.g. October-December) is when single girls want to find a guy to nest with for the winter.

Keep in mind, there are hordes of Italian guys who flood Eastern European capitals in the summertime in search of pussy...although I can't blame them considering the quality of Italian women south of Milano. Shudder.

I am going to Lithuania for two weeks at the end of December. I will be in Vilnius and Kaunas. Do you think safety will be an issue? Do you have any suggestions?

I am East Asian.

I wouldn't worry about it. Lithuania is nowhere near what Russia is. It's tame.

Only if you run into a bunch of drunk wanna-be skinheads. I doubt the chances of that are very high if you're only there for 2 weeks.

Kaunas is deserted at night though. Best to take a taxi around after-hours.

I feel that. I'm not by any means close to fluent, and I find it dificult sometimes to aproach girls who don't speak English. It's a lot more of a challenge. But it's an awesome reward if you can pull it off. I have two girls teaching me right now and I've learned a lot in a short amount of time. I'm finally learning how to conjegate verbs and increasing my vocabulary. I think my vocab has probably increased by 25% in 3 weeks and I've been learning Portuguese on and off for a year. I think this is the easiest way I've learned Portuguese and your working on getting laid at the same time. It's killing two birds with one stone (Though talking to the girls on the internet can get lame, but you learn). I'll be talking to them both on the internet at the same time and I'll ask the one who knows English what the girl who speaks only Portuguese said. Ahhh man, Brazil is one hell of a country.

The "á" "ó" signs are too hard when you are starting to learn.

Mrs. Chocolate should start offering 1 on 1 private Portuguese lessons. She can also teach all the pickup slang and show guys around to what bars and spots to hit up from a local's perspective. You listening Mrs C?? I'm giving you gold right now.

Man I guess when Alvares Cabral discovered Brazil 500 years ago he wouldn´t have thought that one day people would be learning portuguese for the girls.
Portuguese is the same as Spanish you just have to talk slower and change the sssssss by the chhee. Everytime you read or speak with a word that has ssss you change it for cheee (the same sound when you say CHE Guevara).

This is BS. Sorry. It´s not the same thing. Both came from latin, but they are different not only in vocab, but in grammar. I'd studied Spanish some years ago.
Chris (speakeasy), I know a lot of spots, but not all of them... SP is soooo big and there are so many lifestyles... I can try... However, if I teach u Portuguese, how are u intend to pay? I'm giving you the gold, the tools to pick the girls. Where it comes my benefits in this idea?

Brandon, I know that is hard put the signs in the beggining. The signs rules are changing and even me in some words (para - prep/ para - verb don´t hv the sign anymore) don't know what is correct. Iwas kidding

B/S. A lot of it is spelled the same or similar, but the thing that is different in pronunciation is not only the S dude. Have you every heard Portuguese? What about the "de" or "te" or the "rr". There are tons of examples. And for example, how about the word dog? Cachorro in Portuguese and pero in Spanish. There are sooo many examples. I don't know much Spanish, or even that much Portuguese, but I know enough of each to say the above statement is false.

And Mrs. Chocoalate, are you actually from Sao Paulo? Paulistas have the worst accent that I've heard in all of Brazil so far. Ta melhoR, as mulheRs, boa taRde. haha. It reminds me of hillbillies in the South. But I can't really make fun of your Portuguese though because I'm sure my accent is 20x worse. And also, I think I'm staying in SP for a couple days now. I don't think I'm going to Argentina anymore. It's just going to be too expensive. Even for a taxi to the airport tomorrow is going to be R$100. Plus, I think I'd much rather be in Brazil for New Years Eve. So tell me, what the hell can I do here that isn't going to cost me R$40 to enter and R$10 for a drink.

Dude I´m portuguese so I know a litle about the language. And I´ve lived in Madrid for 6 months so I also now spanish.
Of course the languages are different, and the way people speak it it´s also different but I can assure that if I speak slow portuguese (from Portugal) most spanish will understand me and vice versa. When I lived in Madrid I was seeing a german girl that often visited me. She lived in lisbon so she spoke razoably portuguese. When she visited me in Madrid I gave her the advice above and it worked for her. I didn´t read it on a book or hear it on a class, it was just empirical observation. But your right though I should have written:

Portuguese is quite near Spanish, you just have to talk slower and change the sssssss by the chhee, to make any portuguese understand you. I´m not talking about writting a novel, just plain conversational level.

When I went to Madrid I didn´t spoke any spanish, only portuguese, I didn´t made any language course (cause I got there late) and yet I´ve passed a number of disciplines in university and my course demanded good knowledge of spanish.
There are many differences between portuguese and spanish, but so as portuguese (Portugal) and portuguese (Brazil). Hell even inside Portugal you have different words for the same thing but that doesn´t make me not understand portuguese spoken in any part of Portugal.

Damn, my bad homie, I didn't realize your first language was Portuguese. Now I remember you as well. I didn't really get what you were saying about the "S" making the "che" sound, but now that I know you speak Portugal Portuguese that makes sense. In Portugal do you guys pronounce your "de" and "te" the same way as Brazilians? From what I hear also, most people who speak Portuguese understand spanish, but not vise versa. But that is in Latin America. Now sure about Europe.

Na boa bro[Image: smile.gif]

about the S and Che:

you can say in spanish:
"Fuiste a la casa de tu primo?"
In this case you say the S in fuiSte like a snake, the thong goes between the teeth.

In portuguese you say:
"Foste a casa do teu primo?"
Here you pronounce the S in foSte like che or when you wanna somebody to be quiet and you say "shhhh".

Another example:

Spanish:
"Tu primos son locos"
Here the same goes with pronounciation on the S.

Portuguese:
"Teus primos são loucos."

In teuS, primoS, e LocoS you say it with a che or shhhhh.

I lived with 5 people in Madrid one of them was from Nicaragua, from what I recall the difference was that spanish from south america is normally slower and use the word "ito" in almost every sentence, like ahorita, caminito, loquito.
People say that brazilian portuguese is the way portuguese was spoken in the 16th century and normally foreigners enjoy it more than "real" portuguese. For me it´s a sex language everytime I hear a girl talking brazilian I go crazy. If she´s from Brazil I give her an extra point. And the way they kiss and... There was a time when I only hit brazilians bars and clubs in Lisbon.
I got hit Brazil soon.

I'm sorry, but Sao Paulo sucks. And the loud jet that just flew over my head while I was writing this, just makes me feel even more passionately about my loathing of Sao Paulo... And that happens just about every 5 minutes in between the loud cars and people outside.
