Anyone have a list of countries that wouldn't send me back to the US?

10+ years I would probably lam it. This is assuming you committed a crime, but weren't arrested/charged yet. ie. killed someone but no suspects were there.

otherwise I'd do the time, get a degree, lift weights, read books and stay safe.

I spent 24 hours in county jail. Thanks to a woman, and it was for bull shit misdemeanor. I will tell you this, if I was looking at some hard tome ( especially at 34 yrs old) I would run. And run like a mother fucker. I would look seriously at the map above and go where the best women are and cheapest cost of living is. But its going to take cash to live on the lam. Plus you would have to cut ALL ties to your previous life ....

It's not the face you fuck. It's the fuck you are facing.

1 month will be at the local lock up. In most areas, these aren't too bad in terms of rape and other violence.
1 year would probably be in the local lock up as well. In either case, you do the time. Depending on the crime, you might even get work release, and even keep your car at the jail. You suck it up and do the time. It's not worth spending the rest of your life looking over your shoulder.

For a 10 year sentence, you're going to prison. The type of prison you go to will depend on the crime. If you're under 40 and pull some white collar crime that gets you 10 years in a minimum security federal prison, I'd suck it up and do it. You can still have a life afterward.

40 years is a life sentence for anyone. Remember Brooks Hatlen from the Shawshank Redemption? When you come out after 40 years, you're used up, if you come out at all. You're so institutionalized, you won't be able to function outside. On a 40 year sentence, I'd run like hell.

I was actually thinking about posing the same question to the board a few months ago.

For me:
1 month or 1 year? I'll just do the time.

10 years? I don't know. In some states, 10 years really means 3-4 years plus parole. In that case, I might just grit my teeth and bare it. One factor is whether I would be allowed to travel out of state/country while on parole. However, other states, like Florida, and the federal government require you to do 85% of your time. If I am looking at 8.5 years, I might just run.

40 years? No question. I'm Audi 5000. No fucking way am I going to peacefully walk to prison to serve 40 fucking years. My ass will be in Latin America or Africa with a quickness.

Here is what I don't understand. I don't know if you guys remember all of the financial scandals back in the early 2000's (Enron, Worldcom, Tyco, etc), but the US government sent some major CEOs to prison for some serious time. The crazy part is that after sentencing some of these dudes to 25 years (remember, most were in their 50's or 60's at the time) the judges would let them go home and spend a month or so "settling their affairs". If I'm 55 years old, and a judge has just sentenced me to 25 years in federal prison, THEN he gives me a month at home to settle my affairs before I start my sentence, there is NO FUCKING WAY I'm just going to get my shit in order then show up to prison.

I know these guys were wearing ankle monitors, but that is just technology. ALL TECHNOLOGY CAN BE BROKEN. I would prep for my escape, get that bracelet off with a quickness, then go on the run. If the feds want to find me, they can look for me in Liberia or Somalia, or some fucked up country like that.

I actually know several dudes in Costa Rica that are fugitives from the US. Most were looking at time for a DUI conviction. These dudes are just living their life in Costa Rica. Even though there is a warrant out for them, the states don't bother trying to extradite because it is not worth the cost.

If you have a good lawyer you can do 1mos or one year on house arrest. Ten years your going for a while so just get out. My friend just went for 12+ a couple months ago and he was free for a year while the feds were working on his case. I told him to get the fuck out. He knows how to sail and work on electronics too which would have been easy work at marinas with other american sailors. 70k in lawyers fees(family friend) and 12 years he'll be gone. My other buddy just got caught fed drug trafficking and some other shit and got 6mos house arrest then on probation I saw he got popped again the other day for petty theft. Retard. I've also seen him get arrested for touching a girls ass at the bar.

I'm surprised to see that all of South America has extradition treaties with the United States.

Having an extradition treaty and with the US and actually using it is two different things. As JoeHoya said there are a few of them fella in Costa Rica. There are a few of them that hang out downtown. Mostly for stupid shit like repeat DUI/OUI. Most are just living their lives like they want to.

Also keep in mind how much the government wants to get you and what resources they have in the country where you are hiding. If you are really high profile the government is going to go the extra mile to get you. Also, getting profiled on America's Most Wanted, even while hiding internationally, has gotten several people caught.

If you are a low profile guy, the next thing to look at is where you have ties AND what types of resources the government has to get you in that country. If I was on the run for something serious (e.g. not some bullshit DUI), the last place I would go would be Costa Rica or the Dominican Republic, mainly because that is the first place they will look at me since I go there so much. Only an idiot wouldn't check a country that I have traveled to a bunch of times.

Second, what kind of US law enforcement presence is in these countries? There are some countries (like Colombia) that have FBI, DEA, ATF, and DSS (Diplomatic Security Service) special agents permanently stationed there. On the other hand, there are some countries that only have one DSS agent acting as the Regional Security Officer, whose primary concern is to protect the embassy and its staff.

I'm surprised Cuba's not on this list, maybe they just forgot it. Technically there is an agreement but the Castro brothers ain't turning anybody over to the Yankees.

True dat, would be my first stop and only 90 miles from the keys, something you need to think about when you're on the no fly or your passport get yanked. Tow a fast skiff to the keys and pick your day two hours later it's done. I want to make the run just to see how it goes one day.

Well if I had to run away, I would not be able to use any online dating sites. Or anything that can track me.

Think about it. Making status updates and pictures would give the US the hint that I'm alive.

Nope.

The list azulsombra posted isn't in agreement with the map johnwu posted. The indiscrepancies interest me. For instance, the list doesn't mention Belarus or the Ukraine, while the map indicates they're fine.

This depends on where you live. In New York, the local lockup is Riker's Island.

Wow incredibly valuable thread.

Thx for the list of countries. I wonder if you can create/buy domains from companies in those countries that aren't subject to the U.S. government being able to shut them down.

If you know how to hunt and fish (I think every guy should anyway), go live in the bush. Countries like the USA and Canada are big enough that you could easily disappear for a long time in the woods and live off the land.

Two recent stories about guys on the lam who were quickly caught out of (or trying to leave) Canada:

Luka Magnotta, a gay porn star who chopped up a Chinese exchange student and mailed the body parts to political parties and two elementary schools, he left Montreal on a plane to Paris, he was caught a week later surfing porn and looking at articles about himself at an internet cafe in Germany: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luka_Magnotta

Travis Baumgartner, this guy was an armed security guard who killed three of his coworkers at the university of Alberta in Edmonton (a few blocks from my place). He took some money and dumped the armoured truck, he was caught a few days later at a the BC/Washington border, the idiot tried to enter the USA with his own drivers license and over 300K cash; http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/Accu...story.html

Unless you can get out of the country before they begin an international manhunt (such as Magnotta did), you're better off staying in country, even if you do manage to escape, your bank account will be frozen and I think the maximum amount of cash you can bring is 10K. Better have those things sorted out before you go killing anyone!
