Gotta seek out niches. Mainstream bars are terrible for pick-up. If they're filled with broheims pounding jaeger-bombs, you're in the wrong spot.
Try:
salsa bars (depending on geography, these might not be played-out)
hipster bars
lounges
dj venues (depending on music type)
gay-friendly bars
hotel bars
craft cocktail bars

Is there a website which rates bars on SNL potential? I ended up at another sausage bar last night and I'm getting sick of it.

Some ideas: Day game, street game, bring girls out with you, and go to niche/high-end venues that enforce good ratios with hot women.

I just wrote about this in another thread. I was at a wine tasting with probably 75 guys and 10 women, about 5 of them bangable. I got 3 numbers and 3 dates (haven't gone on the dates or banged yet so I can't confirm the kills)
I've gone out to bars where the ratio is 40/60 women vs men and not even gotten a number because of logistics, cockblocking, bitch shields, etc.
Ratio isn't always the issue.
"...so I gave her an STD, and she STILL wanted to bang me."

Life is too short to waste time at sausage fests. I feel like I've learned this the hard way, but just fucking BOUNCE when you end up in one of these places. Fuck the sports or whatever else is going on.

Avoiding sausage fests... man, recently I've been to a few fashion/retail events and they've been pretty much the opposite of anyone's definition of a sausage fest; like 60% Women; 30% Gay; 10% Straight Dudes. These things are incredible... more 8 1/2's than Frederico m------- f----in' Fellini (look it up if you don't get it). And like 80% of chicks are in high heels and dresses.
Approaching on the subtle tip was easy- I invited a recently divorced homie out to help kick start his game- so I approached, heated it up, then passed it off to my pal (really a fun sport). Shields are low. Stay suited like hell. The main issues in these (paradisical) environments are 1) feigning interest in the fashion stuff to build rapport and seem like you belong, and 2) calibrating your social style to get their gay friends on board with your pickup.
About #2- after 7 drinks and a bunch of successful approaches/pass offs at one event, I got a little sloppy and didn't include this one princess's gay posse in my conversation, so her fat gay friend (blockers are always fat), grabbed her after talking with me for 5 min and pulled her away toddling on her high heels. Lesson learned. I had her completely blushing and excited and was just about to pull my homie in, but I suppose you have to stick with the script and keep the broader game tight.
Man if you work in retail/fashion you're a lucky b@stard. I had no idea it was like this. My boy was like "Damn these are top shelf women." I was like "AH HA! So that's where you've all been hiding." Check out racked.com for these kind of events. Obviously no one cares about next season's Havaianas... but you care about the women that care.
And of course the next night we're watching the NBA playoffs with a DC-like 77 other identically dressed dudes and 14 homely-@ss women.

Do what American guys call it 'gay', the opposite of 'manly things'
Is watching football/basket ball with bunch of guys drinking beer manly? I think that's gay
how about playing poker?
I bet an average normal American guy won't go near wine events, salsa studio, yoga place, farmers market etc.
they also have dodgeball and kickball leagues. yeah the sports is gay but they are just making excuses to get together and go to bars right after the games.
