I had bad acne when I was a teen. I cured myself by cutting out all cane sugar and high-fructose corn syrup, and also severely limiting my intake of wheat products. I also did simple breathing exercises -- doing 30 or so deep breaths while thinking relaxing thoughts. I noticed a dramatic improvement in my complexion within three or so days of doing all of these things.
Before, I was getting pus-filled "whiteheads" at the rate of a few per week. In keeping this regimen, this gross problem completely stopped. To this day, in my early 30s, whenever I lose discipline and have the sugar equivalent of a single can of Coke, I get a whitehead somewhere. (I don't meditate or avoid wheat anymore, but I still avoid all candy, soda, cookies, sweet syrups, cake, etc.)
Expensive, risky medicines did little to nothing for me. I needed to change from the inside out. In my opinion, all topical remedies, even when they work, only hide the symptom, they don't address the underlying problem.
