So that’s about as official as it gets.

I’m going to pause and let you get all the jokes about how this is the only way LeBron gets a ring, and about how Savannah should be worried he disappears at the altar, and all that out of the way. I know you have a lot of them, just get them out of your system.

There will be a lot of talk about how this coincided with Kobe Bryant getting divorced. But there’s absolutely no reason to compare the two. Outside of the obvious differences (Kobe was much younger when he was married, James deliberately waited a very long time even after having two sons — who his very much involved with as a father — with Brinson), there’s this. Every relationship is different, every relationship is complicated, and every relationship is none of our damn business. These things are news, now, and that’s fine, here’s your post on it, we hope the couple has a long and happy life together. But beyond everyone’s favorite pastime of sniping at James, he’s an actual human being, and no matter how arrogant he may come across as, no one deserves to have as happy moment as the day you propose to someone you love be sullied by jokes and mean-spirited garbage. These things matter, yes, even more so than a ring for Cleveland or Miami or anyone else.

It’s a sign that James may be maturing, along with other telltale signs, but the truth is we don’t know. We’ve never known LeBron James and we probably never will.

Honestly, I don't have a problem with James marrying Savannah at this point. They've been together since high school. He's lived with her, and they're raising a couple of children together. He's seen what kind of partner and mother she is to his children. He should have a pretty good idea of who she is at this point. He's making this decision based on a ton of evidence. Even if they end up divorcing down the line, she's got a little something coming to her and LeBron probably won't have a problem with that. So long as premarital and post-marital assets are clearly separated out, I'm cool with this. The only part of this that gives me pause is she's never worked, so he'll have to take care of her for life. But then again, even if he didn't marry her, he'd probably still have had to do that.

I totally agree. Savannah is his bottom bitch. They have kids together and she's been with him through the highs and lows. Can't even compare his situation to the idiocy of Kobe Bryant's.

Savannah has kids with Lebron so she was going to be paid anyway. No pre-nupt in the world could keep her from getting millions. Chances are that Lebron will get a pre-nupt but it will pretty much keep her from getting HALF instead of 1/3 or something.

She will never remarry. She is not only entitled to half of everything in the marriage she will get up to 40% of his earnings until she remarries or he dies in alimony money. Naturally she will claim she gave up her career to raise the kids and the judgge will believe it even though Kobe could by a chain of day care centres and it was likely her CHOICE to give up her "career" as a video ho in Snoop doggy dog videos. Its really all bull shit but men can't think as a group. Men can think of themselves as blacks, or gays, or hispanics, or rural whites or immigrants or any other group like poker players or libertarians, or radical christians but men cannot have a collective group image of themselves as men like how women do.

Hence there is no chance of equal marriage any man who marries is an outright fool. Watch out Lebron James, I heard you just got engaged. buyer beware, even with a prenup, after 10 years she can still get alimony which can = 60% of your earnings if she gets the kids for life. Also beware that prenups do not protect what you earn during the marriage, you need a second special postnup for that.

I'm surprised at how many commenters on that article spoke out against Elin and claimed that she didn't deserve $100 million. Wouldn't expect that much dissention on Jezebel.

Elin comes from a prominent family in Sweden, yet had never had the desire to do anything. Her mom is a politician, and is actually a Governor. Her dad is a journalist and was a bureau chief in Washington. Her twin sister is a lawyer. Even when she modeled, she had to be begged to take jobs. Even with her family and education, she was working in a clothing boutique when Jesper Parnevik's wife was in there spending his money, and took a liking to her and hired her to watch her kids. Parnevik introduced her to Woods. She's simply always been in the right place to kind of fall into nice situations. She went from watching one man's kids to watching some of her own. It doesn't shock me that she bought a house, then had it bulldozed. She's never really worked for anything. She's used to having the best given to her, just for looking good. The new boyfriend best not wife her up. There's nothing to gain, only to lose.
